In a move that has been heavily pushed by long-term fans, Duncan Stewart will be returning to Summer Bay in 2016.

Benedict Wall‘s management company, Creative Representation, has quietly updated the New Zealand actor’s CV with news of his role on the long-running Australian soap. The actor is best known for his role as Ben Dovic on the Nine Network series, Underbelly: Badness.

Born to Alf & Ailsa Stewart in June 1989, the role of Duncan was played by Lewis Devaney for 8 years between 1990 and 1998. Brendan McKensy was cast in the role when Duncan was SORASed in late 1998 and remained on the show until July 2001. Brendan made subsequent appearances in 2004 and 2005.

Duncan was a once-timid child who turned into a terror in 1999 after an accident landed him in hospital for an extended period of time. After the death of Duncan’s mother, Ailsa in 2000, his relationship with Alf became fractured and they often clashed. He left to live with his aunt Morag in 2001.

In 2004, Alf disowned Duncan when he returned and caused a string of incidents that culminated in a car crashing over a cliff, paralysing Seb Miller. Duncan returned for his father’s 60th birthday the following year to try and mend the relationship and over time it did, with Alf attending his son’s off-screen wedding in the US in 2009.

With the return of Duncan, it will mark the first time in 27 years that he, his father Alf, and sister Roo have been seen onscreen at the same time, the last occasion being Duncan’s christening in 1989.

Benedict’s first scenes as Duncan will air later in 2016.

Home and Away will welcome back Alf Stewart's son Duncan very soon – but he will come back to Summer Bay with a very big secret.

Benedict Wall has taken over the role of Duncan, who hasn't been seen since he left the seaside town under a cloud in 2005.

Duncan will return to the Bay following the news of Alf's recent health scare – but don't expect a happy family reunion, because his dad is less than pleased to see him.

Long-term Home and Away viewers will know that Duncan has a very chequered history with his father, so it comes as no surprise that his reconciliation attempt isn't welcomed with open arms.

After some advice from his sister Roo and keen to show that he's a changed man, Duncan decides to open up to Alf and reveals his guilt over an incident involving his wife.

As Alf begins to soften towards his troubled son, Duncan drops another bombshell – he has a 5-year old son.

Duncan's news naturally leaves Alf reeling, but will it bring the pair closer together, or tear them even further apart?

"Things between Duncan and Alf are pretty rocky. Duncan loves his father and the fact they are not talking weighs on his mind," newcomer Benedict told TV Week.

"When it got to the point of Alf almost dying, it was just the push that Duncan needed for him to come home to try and fix things.

"He was such a notorious little character. For Duncan, his behaviour as a kid has given him a need to prove himself as an adult."

Duncan was played by Lewis Devaney from 1990 to 1998. Brendan McKensy then took over the role until 2005.

A separate article on yahoo.com about Duncan/Benedict Wall:

Third time lucky for promising Home and Away star

Alf Stewart’s estranged son Duncan hasn’t been seen in Summer Bay for more than a decade but the former delinquent teen is set to make an unexpected return to the popular soap this week.

Following Alf’s (Ray Meagher) hospitalisation after he suffered a heart attack, Duncan learns from his sister Roo (Georgie Parker) that he has been cut out of his father’s will.

Deciding it is time to pay his family a visit, Duncan returns to the Bay but is met with hostility by Alf, who is not thrilled by his son’s sudden arrival.

“He is coming home because his father is unwell,” says New Zealand-born actor Benedict Wall, who plays Duncan.

“But that in itself has got some challenges because I think he still has quite a lot of resentment towards Alf from when he was a kid and, at the same time, Alf doesn’t trust him and never really has.”

Despite Duncan’s 10-year absence from the Bay, Wall made sure he was well versed in his character’s tumultuous history.

“A lot of what I was doing was really filling in the blanks about what had happened in the 10 years since we’d last seen Duncan,” Wall explains.

“He’s gone off and started a family and he’s changed his career a few times. And he’s had some business ventures that haven’t worked out.

“He got married and Alf came to his wedding and a lot of why there’s antagonism between the two characters comes from the backstory of what happened from that, and that’s something they’re working through.”

For Wall, landing a role on the show has been a long and persistent journey.

“I auditioned quite a few times before I got this role,” he says. “I’d been up for a bunch of roles, I got a recall for George Mason’s role (Ash) ... I’d also met Penny (McNamee) and Jimmy (Stewart) at an audition when I got a recall to be in the Morgan family.”

Before pursuing acting, Wall — whose credits include Shortland Street and Underbelly: Badness — attempted to follow in the footsteps of his mother, who is an award-winning journalist.

“I did a three-year (journalism degree) and then I gave up immediately,” laughs Wall, who graduated from New York’s prestigious Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.

“So within six months of graduating, I was in New York at drama school. I was really lucky I got a scholarship.”

Being the real-life boyfriend of former Home and Away actress Jess Grace-Smith (who played Denny) has also had it’s perks, with Wall already acquainted with most of the show’s cast.

“I was lucky because I knew nearly everyone before I started because of Jess,” he says. “I didn’t know Ray and Georgie but I spent a lot of time with those guys and we all got along well.”

Romance is also set to blossom for Duncan while he’s in the Bay.

But thanks to lurking paparazzi, the woman Duncan has eyes for has already been leaked on a gossip website.

“They’re there all the time,” Wall says. “I don’t know who they talk to but they find out a lot pretty quickly.”

Off screen, the actor is no stranger to being stalked by paparazzi.

In 2014, images of Wall holidaying in Thailand with Grace-Smith and fellow Home and Away actor Tai Hara surfaced online, much to their surprise.

“We were amazed because we’d been on holidays at this little resort at the back of an island and they had us from the moment we arrived,” he recalls.

Nonetheless, Wall is thankful to finally be joining the Summer Bay clan.

“It had always been on my radar and when you’re young, the shows you see everyday are definitely the ones that you aspire to be apart of,” he says.

Duncan’s return to Summer Bay will air on Tuesday.

Home and Away airs Monday to Thursday at 7pm on Seven/GWN7.

Home and Away will be welcoming back Duncan Stewart next month - and he's got a new face, a new attitude and, of course, a whole load of new drama.

Alf will be shocked when he opens his door to find his estranged son Duncan standing there. Benedict Wall has taken over the role of Duncan, who hasn't been seen since he left the Bay under a rather dark cloud in 2005.

Duncan will return to the Bay following the news of Alf's recent health scare – but don't expect a happy family reunion, because Alf isn't exactly pleased to see him.

And it doesn't take long before the true extent of Duncan's fractured relationship with his father comes to light to those around them. While Duncan's sister Roo and many other Summer Bay residents welcome him back with open arms, Alf acts coldly towards him, before making his feelings abundantly clear.

Keen to build bridges, Duncan decides to open up to Alf about the past, before dropping an almighty bombshell - he has a 5-year old son.

Unsurprisingly, Alf is floored by the news that he has a grandchild he knew nothing about and it only serves to drive a further wedge between the pair.

An angry Alf accuses Duncan of only being here for money, but with father and son now further apart than ever before, can anything unite them? Or is it too little too late?

Also ahead on Summer Bay, Duncan Stewart will be rocked by the arrival of his ex-wife Caroline and their five-year old son Bryce.

Duncan (Benedict Wall) is enjoying a budding romance with local doctor Tori when Caroline turns up on his doorstep unannounced.

Duncan has mixed feelings about his former flame's arrival, but Caroline (Nicole Shostak) is left with no doubt about how his dad Alf feels as he greets her with a very frosty reception.

Alf had made his feelings about Caroline clear before she even married Duncan and he doesn't buy her claims that she has come to Summer Bay to check on her ex following the recent plane crash.

But while Alf is adamant that Caroline must have an ulterior motive, Duncan can't deny that he is relishing the chance to bond with Bryce.

The trio put on a united family front as they spend the day together, but Caroline takes the opportunity to tell Duncan that she wants to make amends.

Duncan is clearly torn when Caroline makes a heartfelt apology for how she treated him, but with Tori also unsure over where she stands with him now, what will Duncan do?

Also ahead in Summer Bay, there are tearjerking scenes ahead for Duncan Stewart as he has to say an emotional goodbye to his family.

As Caroline and Bryce prepare to leave the Bay for Hawaii, it's a tough moment for Duncan (Benedict Wall) as he doesn't feel ready to let them go.

Feeling torn after hearing the truth about Caroline's illness, Duncan decides that he wants to start again with his family by moving to Hawaii with them.

At first it seems like it's all systems go with Duncan's plan, but it doesn't take long for Caroline to realise that he doesn't really love her anymore.

Also coming up on Summer Bay, Duncan Stewart will be thrown into a dilemma when he receives some shock news about his ex-wife Caroline.

Duncan was forced to say goodbye to Caroline last autumn when she headed back to Hawaii with their young son Bryce, and he has since been focusing on getting his romance with Tori Morgan off the ground.

Sadly, though, it looks like he and Tori really aren't meant to be as he is thrown an unexpected curveball regarding Caroline just as he's about to take things further with his new girlfriend.

After a few teething problems, Duncan and Tori look set to take their relationship to the next level in a hotel room, but are interrupted by a call from Alf, who tells his son that Caroline has had an accident and needs him.

Thankfully, it's nothing too serious and Caroline has just broken her leg, but it does mean that Duncan will need to temporarily leave the Bay in order to be with her.

Reluctant to leave Tori, Duncan implores her to go with him, but the idea clearly unsettles her and she insists she wouldn't be able to get the time off work.

Before long, the couple are saying their goodbyes as Duncan heads off to support his ex-wife, but Tori's promise to wait for him starts to come into question when she stares longingly at Nate Cooper. Could Duncan's absence push Tori into Nate's arms?
