It's the big moment that all soap fans have been waiting for - longlist voting for the British Soap Awards 2016 has officially opened.

A host of stars from Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks have made the longlist for the Best Actor and Best Actress prizes - and we couldn't be more excited to bring you the full collection of nominees.

Last year, these categories were judged with a 50/50 split between public votes and an expert panel of judges - but the good news is that they've been put solely back into the hands of the viewers for the 2016 event.

As always, soap fans will also have the chance to vote for the coveted Best British Soap prize.

The full longlist follows below:

The competition for votes will no doubt be bigger than ever this year, as EastEnders secured the Best British Soap prize with a narrow winning margin of just 0.15% in 2015. They're not lying when they say that every vote counts!

Votes can be cast now via the official British Soap Awards website. Details of the other categories, which are judged by the panel, will be revealed at a later date. The ceremony will take place at London's Hackney Empire theatre in May.

EastEnders and Hollyoaks have topped the shortlist for the British Soap Awards 2016.

Both shows picked up 14 nominations and led the field thanks to multiple nominees in the viewer-voted fields of Best Actor and Best Actress.

Hollyoaks provides two of the Best Actor field with Charlie Clapham and Kieron Richardson facing off against Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd, EastEnders' Danny Dyer and Emmerdale's Danny Miller.

While in the Best Actress category, EastEnders stars Lacey Turner and Rakhee Thakrar will be competing against Corrie's Alison King, Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter and Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe.

ITV's Coronation Street and Emmerdale both scooped 13 nominations, while BBC One's Doctors received 10 nominations.

The all-important Best Dramatic Performance categories will see Corrie's Jack P Shepherd, Doctors' Adrian Lewis Morgan, EastEnders' Steve McFadden, Emmerdale's Danny Miller and Hollyoaks' Jeremy Sheffield compete for the Male prize.

And in the Best Female Dramatic Performance field, Corrie's Tina O'Brien will go up against Doctors' Sarah Moyle, EastEnders' Lacey Turner, Emmerdale's Charlotte Bellamy and Hollyoaks' Zoe Lucker.

EastEnders will be looking to retain its Best Storyline award, which it won last year for 'Who Killed Lucy?', with Stacey's Postpartum Psychosis. It's up against Callum's reign of terror & Sarah's baby in Corrie, Treehouse in Doctors, Aaron's abuse in Emmerdale and the McQueens' cycle of abuse in Hollyoaks.

Coronation Street's live episode will hope to match EastEnders' win last year for its live episode, but Corrie will have to fight off Doctors' The Heart of England, Shabnam's stillbirth in EastEnders, the aftermath of the Village Hall explosion in Emmerdale and Patrick Blake's right to die decision in Hollyoaks.

Scene of the Year will be contested between Val's death in Emmerdale (who won last year for Donna's goodbye), Valerie leaving Barry at the altar in Doctors, Mick and Linda's wedding in EastEnders, Callum's death in Corrie and Nico killing Patrick in Hollyoaks.

The British Soap Awards 2016 will take place at London's Hackney Empire theatre later this month.

This year, the Outstanding Achievement Award (Off Screen) has been re-named the Tony Warren Award in remembrance of the late Corrie creator.

Soap fans, it's time to get excited - ITV has officially confirmed the airdate and time for the British Soap Awards 2016.

The glitzy ceremony will be broadcast on Sunday, May 29 at 8pm in a two-hour slot - just one day after the event is held in London.

Last year, there was a frustrating five-day delay between filming and airing the awards - but the gap has thankfully been cut significantly for the 2016 broadcast.

Hosted by Phillip Schofield, this year's British Soap Awards will be coming from London's Hackney Empire.

The theatre first hosted the ceremony two years ago, when Hollyoaks memorably won the Best Soap prize for the first time ever.

Viewer voting remains open for Best Soap, Best Actor and Best Actress categories, while the rest of the winners have been determined by a panel of judges.

This year will also see the Outstanding Achievement Award (Off-Screen) renamed as the Tony Warren Award, as a tribute to Coronation Street's late creator following his death in March.

Emmerdale and EastEnders have proven to be the big victors on the night with five awards each.

The awards took place in London and Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and Walford’s Lacey Turner were particularly notable representatives of their shows, with a staggering three gongs for Lacey and two for Danny alongside the Best Soap gong for Emmerdale.

I think they probably got the awards about right. Glad Emmerdale did well, but I think I would have given the best soap award to EastEnders, but I am biased and I don't watch enough of Emmerdale to be objective. I am just pleased Coronation Street did not win, as it certainly did not deserve this honour. Nice to see Doctors get recognized, after all it is the 4th most watched soap after Emmerdale.

Emmerdale deserved it's wins especially Danny Miller

I would have liked to see Rakhee Thakrar take best actress as Lacey won three

Elle Mulvaney Coronation Street or Amelia Flanagan Emmerdale deswrved the best young actor/actress award

Hollyoaks winning only one award maybe the wake up call it needs to get rid of Kirkwood?

The awards did seem to go on a bit, too many ad breaks. Commercial TV is getting more like US and Australia sadly.

It was Lacey's night really and Knobron fans will be orgasmic. Nice for Steve McFadden to get a special award. I think the stars who didn't turn up for the awards had the right idea, stopping at home with their feet up with a bottle of wine. :)
