Nene is back in town and Amy konws things aren’t quite right. When Nene gets a crush on Karl, Amy’s not the only woman who’s stressed.
When a mystery woman collapses from heat exhaustion in front of Karl, the good doctor springs into action. Little does he know that his heroism has sparked an infatuation for the damsel in distress who is none other than Amy’s (Zoe Cramond) mother, Nene (Ally Fowler), whose shock arrival in Erinsborough has her daughter worried that something’s not right.
“Amy’s kind of had to mother Nene throughout her whole life so she’s had to grow up really quickly,” says Cramond. “Nene is always up and down and Amy never quite knows which way she’s going to swing. Nene was stable for ages so Amy thought things were going really well but seeing her again and her turning up in town was a bit of a shock and just one of those things where the alarm bells went off for Amy, wondering what’s going on because of Nene’s mental health problems.”
While Nene convinces Amy she’s well, Amy turns to Karl (Alan Fletcher) to help her mother look for a nursing job and Nene is forced to admit she left her last position in questionable circumstances. She tells him that she took the blame for a doctor’s mistake, so karl offers to support her application and get her registered to work in Victoria.
After getting an interview for a position at Erinsborough Hospital, Nene goes to watch Karl play a gig at Off Air. Though the punters at the bar aren’t impressed with the performance, Nene is and she jumps up on stage to sing backup. When Susan (Jackie Woodburne) arrives she gets chills seeing Karl’s chemistry with the new arrival and she gets suspicious of Nene’s intentions.
With Karl’s past history of affairs and Nene’s impulsive behaviour, should Susan be worried?
