Coronation Street are to tackle the issue of child slavery in a storyline that starts next week.

Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) will get a shock when she finds a mystery woman living at the factory. While Eva searches for her boyfriend Aidan, she's left stunned when a Polish girl comes out behind a pile of boxes and introduces herself as Marta.

According to The Mirror, it emerges Marta (played by Edyta Budnik) is revealed to be an unpaid worker of wealthy Weatherfield newcomers Richie and Julia O'Driscoll (James Midgley and Malgorzata Klara), Underworld's biggest clients.

After Eva takes Marta her under her wing and gives her some food, Marta opens up that she fears for her family in Poland if she escapes, while Eva realises that if she reveals the truth, it could leave Underworld and owner Carla Connor (Alison King) ruined.

The revelations with Marta will be one of King's big storylines before the actress takes a break from the cobbles later this year. She has appeared on the soap since 2006, but is planning a sabbatical for creative reasons.

So this slavery plot is going to be yet another big storyline for Carla. I'm beginning to be glad Alison King's leaving to give some of the other actors a look in for once. Talk about over exposure! :wall:

Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has revealed new details of the show's upcoming slavery storyline, explaining that her character Eva Price will have to make some very difficult decisions.

Upcoming scenes will see Eva find a mystery woman living at the factory, and it later becomes apparent that she is on the run from some people who kept her as a slave.

Unbeknown to Eva, Marta (Edyta Budnik) is actually an unpaid worker of wealthy Weatherfield newcomers and the Underworld's biggest clients - Richie and Julia O'Driscoll.

Tyldesley explained: "Initially Eva just feels very sorry for Marta. She gives her some food and helps her to keep warm.

"She really doesn't know what to do for the best, especially as the factory girls are still blaming Jenny Bradley for the money and food going missing.

"The interesting part of the story from here is that at some point it is going to come out that it is the O'Driscolls who are keeping her a slave so that will really 'out' the Connors in a difficult position with regards to continuing to do business with them. But there is quite a way to go before that all comes out in the open."

Although Eva puts herself out to help Marta, her good intentions soon backfire when Marta runs away after stealing a coat from the factory.

Eva later confides in her boyfriend Aidan over the situation, but how will he react?

Tyldesley continued: "Eva admits to Aidan that she knew Marta was in the factory, but she was worried for her safety as she was on the run from some people who kept her as a slave.

"Aidan is the only person Eva confides in at this point and he is shocked by what she tells him. But there is nothing they can do now as they have no idea where she has gone.

"At this point it doesn't seem like too big a deal - a young girl was simply hiding out in the factory. It is in the coming weeks when the storyline develops that it will have consequences for the factory and potentially their relationship.

"Eva will make some decisions that could blow up in her face."

Discussing whether she had to do any research for the storyline, Tyldesley said: "No, that work is done by the writers and the story team.

"Eva wouldn't know much about the situation so I don't need to know a lot of detail, but it is an interesting storyline to be involved in and not something that has really been done in a soap before."
