Former Brookside star Leon Lopez is returning to the soap world with a short guest role on EastEnders, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The actor will appear in a handful of episodes later this year, taking on the role of Linford - one of Claudette Hubbard's foster sons.

Lopez has already started filming with the BBC show, so his first scenes will be hitting our screens in a few weeks' time.

As well as schemer Claudette, Linford will no doubt be sharing scenes with his foster siblings Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood) and Donna Yates (Lisa Hammond).

Speaking to Digital Spy, Lopez commented: "I'm so excited to be working on EastEnders and still can't believe it! It really is a dream come true."

An EastEnders insider added: "Leon is only in a few episodes of EastEnders and it's quite a small part, but everyone is really excited to have him on set."

Lopez is best known for playing the regular part of Jerome Johnson on Brookside between 1999 and 2002. He was a contestant on ITV singing show Soapstar Superstar in 2007 and has appeared in various theatre productions.

More recently, Lopez has also gone behind the camera by writing and directing feature film Soft Lad, which stars EastEnders actor Jonny Labey (Paul Coker) and Coronation Street's Daniel Brocklebank (Billy Mayhew).

EastEnders guest star Leon Lopez has revealed that tonight was his final appearance as Linford Short - at least for now.

The former Brookside actor has been appearing as Linford since February, but show bosses had always made it clear that he was only around on Albert Square for a short stint.

Linford appeared in scenes at the cafe and the Queen Vic in Thursday night's episode, but when one fan asked if EastEnders was a long-term commitment, Lopez confirmed that tonight was his last appearance.

Asked whether he'd like to go back for a full-time return, he replied: "Ah. Yes of course."

Linford was introduced as the foster son of Claudette Hubbard. He also regularly appeared in scenes with fellow builder Andy Flynn, who seems to be becoming a more prominent character on the Square.

One of his final scenes in Thursday's episode saw Linford teasing Andy over his feelings for Stacey Branning, before revealing that he had his own eye on Ronnie Mitchell.

Given Ronnie's history, staying away might be the safer option...

Lopez previously played Jerome Johnson on Brookside between 1999 and 2002. He was also a contestant on ITV singing show Soapstar Superstar in 2007 and has appeared in various theatre productions.
