View Full Version : Anna Windass (Debbie Rush)
Coronation Street – Debbie Rush on Anna’s romance with Kevin: “There’s a lot of kissing!”
Watch out Weatherfield, there’s a new romance on the cards so expect lots of kissing!
That’s the verdict from Coronation Street’s Debbie Rush as her character, Anna Windass, gets up close and personal with mechanic Kevin Webster.
While Anna’s excited about the prospect of finding love again, Debbie says she wants to keep it underwraps for a while, but seeing as this is soapland, we don’t think she’s going to have much luck!
There’s been a certain chemistry between Anna and Kev for a while – when did Anna first realise this? I think Anna started to realise just before Christmas when she saw the way Kevin was with his family, especially with Sophie who’s been so upset over Maddie, I think he’s made her heart melt a little bit because he’s such a nice man.
Has she not really pursued it because he’s Sally’s ex? She’s not actively pursued it because he is Sally’s ex and it’s incredibly complicated being part of a blended family. Even though Anna’s not frightened of Sally in the slightest, she just doesn’t want any aggro, she doesn’t need it, she’s had enough aggro in her life. The too families are overly blended already!
Is she jealous when Kevin seems to be getting on well with Joanne? I think Anna realises she likes Kevin a little bit more than she thought when they are at the dating night and she sees that Kevin is actually now fully dating Joanne. It’s more of a pang of envy than jealousy, in that she wishes it was her rather than the dull date that she’s with.
There’s the kiss under the mistletoe and then the New Year’s Eve peck, do these underline the chemistry between them? There actually wasn’t a kiss under the mistletoe, there should have been but Tim catches them very nearly in the act. There’s then a lot of chemistry going on over Christmas dinner at Sally’s, Anna gets invited round and Kevin’s there which makes her day. The chemistry continues bubbling on New Year’s Eve when the two of them go outside to look at the fireworks together and there’s a little peck on the cheek.
What’s her reaction when he asks her out on a date? When Kevin finally asks her out on a date she puts aside all the complications with Sally and Tim because Kevin tells her to put herself first, so she does for a change. She’s witnessed him outside protecting Sophie regarding the graffiti on Maddie’s mural and she’s in awe of the way he deals with it. Then he basically walks in and snogs the face off her!
How does the date go? They get in a black cab and go on a secret date because Anna doesn’t want anybody to know, they’re snogging again in the cab, there’s a lot of kissing going on but that happens in a new relationship.
Why is Anna so worried about Sally finding out about their relationship? There are a few things going on. She’s worried about the hassle and she doesn’t want Faye to have any more hassle in her life, she’s already had Owen who’s just walked out in the last 12 months, so Anna’s trying to play it safe and she doesn’t want Sally whipping everything into a frenzy. But secretly I suspect Anna’s quite pleased because it’s a bit of one upmanship on Sally, she knows it will annoy her.
Would she like a real relationship with Kevin? I’m not sure Anna is ready for a relationship, I think she’s still very raw after Owen and I think a lot of it is that she’s lonely.
Can you tell us what happens when Sally lets herself into Anna’s house during her date with Kevin? Faye’s staying at Tim and Sally’s while Anna has her secret rendezvous but then Sally makes an excuse up to go round with Faye to get a DVD. They end up letting themselves in and very nearly catching Sally and Kevin in the act. They’re in the middle of another big snogging sesh when Anna hears them on the stairs so she hides Kevin in the bedroom. Sally turns into Miss Marple, she knows somebody is in the flat but she hasn’t got a clue it’s Kevin which is quite funny, Anna loves the fact it’s Kevin hiding in the bedroom from Sally and not a stranger.
What did you think when you found out that Anna and Kevin were going to get together? I was quite shocked that Anna was going to get with someone so quickly after Owen but I trust the writers and the producer completely so let’s see what happens and hopefully the public will like it. There’s lots of drama and comedy to play within the blended family.
Could Sally and Anna come to blows over this? We’ve had a bit of a slapstick fight over the fence but I honestly think that Sally and Anna don’t hate each other, I think they get each other very well. I think Anna has a bit of a soft spot for Sally because she’s so tragically trying to be something she’s not, and I think that Sally has a bit of soft spot for Anna because things don’t go well for her but she’s a good mum. I think between them they’re both doing their best for their families and they see that in each other. However they do really rub each other up the wrong way so maybe they will fight it out one day.
Can you give us any hints about what’s coming up for Anna and Kevin? With Phelan coming back we don’t really know what’s going to happen but I’m sure he’ll be trying to spoil things for Anna and the rest of the Windasses because he always does.
what chemistry, awful pairing

What happened to Anna who was ever only with Eddie and was nervous getting with Owen, has Phelan changed and ruined her?
I never objected to any of Kevin's love interests only Molly but even she kissing Kevin wasn't as stomach churning as this is for some reason
anna gagging for a bit of hows your father now and viewers just gagging
What happened to Anna who was ever only with Eddie and was nervous getting with Owen, has Phelan changed and ruined her?
That disgusting experience with Phelan would surely make her more hesitant if anything? The Corrie writers seem unable to keep her character consistent.
When there’s a problem at the Arches, Phelan tells Kevin they can sort it but it’ll mean another week’s work. Kevin’s grateful, while Anna tells Kevin she reckons Phelan tampered with it himself as she knows he’s short of work. Will Kevin buy this?
Later, Anna calls in the garage and apologises to Kevin for her recent tantrums and suggests they wipe the slate clean. Kevin agrees and at his suggestion they join Tim and Sally for dinner. Sally bores Anna to death about her council campaign. Anna loses her temper and thrusting some cash at Kevin, storms out of the bistro.

Regardless of the Phelan situation Kevin should just dump her she is a miserable cow
Coronation Street spoiler – Is Anna Windass dead?
Coronation Street fans will be left wondering whether Anna Windass is going to die this Christmas when she suffers a horrific accident.
The Weatherfield resident is unsteady on her feet following the explosion that left her with severe burns.
In the build up to New Year’s Eve she’s left alone with Kevin Webster’s son Jack when the mechanic is called to an emergency breakdown, while Gary and Faye go out to parties.
Without Faye, Gary or Kevin, Anna is alone with Jack when she tumbles down the stairs in the dark and lies unconscious in the hallway.
Unable to wake her, frightened Jack lets himself out. In the Rovers, the regulars count down to midnight as Jack stands alone on the street, clearly scared.
Will anyone come to Anna’s rescue?
Watch the drama unfold from December 23.

DEBBIE RUSH has become one of Corrie’s best-known faces since joining the soap.
But after a dramatic nine years, I can reveal Weatherfield’s Anna Windass is saying goodbye.
Debbie handed in her notice and will stop filming the ITV show later this year.
A source said: “Debbie decided she wanted a new challenge. So when it came to signing her new one-year deal she told show boss Kate Oates — and Kieran Roberts, the show’s exec producer — she would be leaving once that was up. They completely understood and despite wanting her to stay, gave her their blessing to move on.
“Debbie wanted to give them loads of time to think of a great way to see Anna leave the cobbles.”
The star said last night: “I’ve had an amazing nine years and the decision to leave was not made lightly.
“I love playing Anna and will miss working with the fantastic cast and crew.
“I don’t know what the future holds but I am excited to explore what other acting opportunities are out there.
“I am very grateful for all the brilliant storylines I have been given during my time on Coronation Street and am very much looking forward to what is in store for Anna in the run up to my departure next year.”
She has certainly been involved in some big storylines since joining the soap in 2008.
Debbie will stop filming later this year but she will be on the show until early 2018
She was Roy Cropper’s shoulder to cry on after learning his wife Hayley was dying.
Anna was blackmailed into sex by evil Pat Phelan and her daughter Faye’s underage pregnancy was also a huge talking point.
More recently, she was badly burned by a car explosion caused by David Platt and had been shacking up with serial womaniser Kevin Webster.
How Anna will be written out, and if it will be for good, is yet to be decided.
A spokeswoman for the programme added: “Debbie will leave Coronation Street at the end of the year.
“Anna Windass will be on-screen until early 2018, with plenty more drama and twists in the tale before she leaves Weatherfield. We wish Debbie every success for the future.”
She will be sorely missed.

It ends with Phelan imprisoning or murdering everyone who gets in his way and him, Eileen and Todd living happily ever after.
all life is precious to pat phelan :p
There is a sinister showdown ahead for Pat Phelan and Anna Windass in Coronation Street as the pair come to blows in a big way in the builder’s yard office – and given that we all know what Phelan is capable of, it’s clear that Anna’s life is in serious danger. The pair have always been enemies ever since Phelan blackmailed Anna into sex and set about turning her life upside down with vulgar blackmail. Since then, they have clashed a number of times and he has openly threatened her before. In coming scenes, they will cross paths once again and it turns nastier than ever, with Anna wielding a blunt tool against Phelan only for him to turn the tables on her and throw her to the ground before looming over her menacingly. We know that Phelan is on the lookout for another hostage to replace Andy Carver in his cellar of doom and recently released pictures showed a terrifying Anna hiding in fear as her big exit story looms. Is Phelan about to take her hostage? And, as she discovers the full extent of his recent crimes, will he later be forced to silence her for good, paving them way for a very final ending for Debbie Rush’s long suffering character? Either way, Phelan will play an instrumental part in Anna’s final scenes and we aren’t anticipating a happy ever after…

If it is, they are not using a lot of imagination, are they, as with Phelan framing her it would be very predictable. The scriptwriters either go overboard with ridiculous storylines or boring predictable ones ..

Coronation Street’s Anna Windass collapses and is taken to hospital later this month as her life spirals out of control.
Kevin Webster later visits Anna in hospital and tells her it is over between them as he has to put Jack first and can’t risk anything happening to him.
Devastated she prepares to go back to prison but spies an overcoat and putting it on furtively heads towards an open door.
Tim breaks the news of Anna’s escape to Faye who seeing the look of glee on Phelan’s face confronts him about what really happened between him and Anna.
The scales fall from Faye’s eyes and she tells Seb that Phelan is a liar and Anna did not push the ladder but when he refuses to listen she dumps him.
Meanwhile Anna cowers in a deserted building frightened and alone – what will she do next?
Here Debbie Rush, who plays her, reveals all…
How has it been for you filming what has been a very draining storyline which has gone on for months?
I have found this storyline exhausting, but more than that it’s been exhilarating and I’ve loved doing it. I got set on fire for real last year, and when that was put to me I thought ‘Oh, that’s exciting!’ I throw myself into everything 1000%, and loved it, as tired as I am when I get home, I’ve loved it.
What are your thoughts on the Phelan/Anna dynamic?
I’ve found the Phelan storyline a fantastic opportunity to be chosen to play cat and mouse, if I’m the mouse and he’s the cat. I’ve loved it. The first time he left we knew we had unfinished business. Since he’s come back we’ve let it gently bubble and boil until this crescendo we have now, I think that’s been great and I’ve loved doing it, because I think the public thought for a while it was going away and it hasn’t. It’s been great
Do fans want Anna to bring him down?
They want Anna to bring him down, massively! I still get little old ladies, to young lads shouting ‘Oi, Anna, when you gonna get Phelan?’ So everyone wants him done in, and they all want Anna to do it.
Is it important to you that she’s the one who brings him down?
As a woman… I know there has been a debate for some time, did he rape her or didn’t he rape her? Well, he did, because she was coerced into having sex with him to protect her family. We’ve just done the Bethany storyline and the nation is on Bethany’s side and knows she was groomed and raped. Anna was a grown woman who was groomed and raped. That’s the way I’ve played it and that’s why, it’s very important for me, Anna would be the one to bring him down with justice.
How is it playing the scenes with Connor who is so lovely in real life?
Connor is lovely. Whenever we finish a scene we always have a cuddle. He’s a giant and I’m a midget, so we have a cuddle, and he’s so lovely. He says we will get a fight arranger on and I say I don’t want a stunt person, throw me on the floor so it looks real. He’s on the same page as me, which is great, I love it.
Does he scare you when he gets into character?
We work in a very similar way, so we arrive on set and are jovial and jolly and chat about what we did at the weekend, but a minute before the cameras start rolling we go into our corners and become those characters. In that moment it is terrifying and frightening, and we go to very dark places. So yes, it is frightening.
When does Anna go and what was behind your decision to leave?
There are more Phelan and Anna scenes to come before Anna goes. We have a month of filming to go, and takes us to the end of January on screen. As the weeks count down, I am really excited, if I am honest. I have been here for nine years, and loved every minute, but as an actress it is time to move on. What do I want to do next? Just work. I’ve no plans. I’m a jobbing actress and that’s what I intend to continue doing.
Are you nervous about getting more work?
It’s terrifying. It was frightening before I came into this as it’s tough and jobs are few and far between. But it’s what I did before and it’s what I’ll do again. When I came in I thought, ‘If I stay for a year, it’ll be alright’, and here I am nine years later. Every time I’ve thought its time to go, I’ve thought long and hard about it, and I took a really long time to make a decision, talked about it for about two years before I decided to go. The show has been very good to me, I have been really lucky, had great storylines, feel highly respected by my colleagues and it’s scary to leave a lovely job, but I just want to be creative again somewhere else.
How does Corrie help in terms of getting more work?
Corrie is an iconic television programme. It’s been in all of our lives growing up. It was a blessing to arrive here and if there has been any snobbery in the past about it, that’s been diminished and it’s not there any more.
Did you have a say in how you leave?
I’m happy to let things roll and go how they go. When I said it was time to go it was quite a long time agin and we kept it under wraps for quite some time. I told my husband and children, and have a very close inner trusting circle. I said it was up to the writers to do whatever they like is best for the character. Even if the door is shut permanently. I wasn’t bothered either way.
Tell us about Anna’s escape from hospital…
When Anna escapes, after losing Gary her whole world is caved in. We all know she hasn’t pushed poor Seb, so her whole world has caved in. She lost Owen, the love of her life, she fell into Kev’s arms and things looked up for her, then she had the accident and was badly burned and had all the body confidence issues. She’s finally feeling like she’s getting on her feet and this has happened. Anything that could have gone wrong, does. You’ve see an unravelling of her. Then she runs away and escapes and you’ll see more of an unravelling, and it’s a case of where things can’t get any worse.
Security is very shoddy in the hospital!
Security isn’t great in the hospital and they are unassuming with little Anna and think she won’t run away. I think he only went to get a coffee from the drink machine for five minutes. She does find herself back on the street.
Is it the end of her and Kevin?
Loads of people like us together so that’s a case of ‘will Kevin be on her side or won’t he?’ She’s struggling quite a bit with that although she does love him and he has come up trumps in the past. She does love him but she’s struggling with loyalty and equally he’s struggling with belief of whether she has or whether she hasn’t [pushed Seb] because of the way the last 12 months have unfolded and her behaviour.
When she’s on the run what is her mindset – what’s the endgame?
When you see her on the run, I think she just feels like ultimately Phelan’s won and she’s completely innocent and he’s won. I think you see a woman full of desperation who thinks she has nothing else left in the world. And it’s fight or flight and she decides to fight and that’s the only way she can do it.
How does she feel towards Seb because he’s to blame for this?
Is he? Or is Faye? Because Faye is the one that feels that it’s all Anna’s fault and has so much angst and hate towards her mum that’s misplaced. I think it’s a bit of a combination together. Poor Seb – I think the way that Anna sees it is that Seb – She understands what a powerful manipulating bully that Phelan is. Because what I said previously about the fact that he did rape Anna – it’s about bullying. So poor Seb’s been bullied and she gets that. She knows with everything that’s going that’s what’s happened. Equally, regards Faye, she knows that she’s a little girl that came to her at nine from a foster home and then she adopted her. So Faye has all that angst and all those issues that came before of mistrust and doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – and who to trust. Anna being the mum she is, she’s very forgiving of them straight away because she just wants the best for them because they’re children. They may be sixteen but they’re still children. She’s quite understanding of the [fact that] something small erupted into something massive and they didn’t understand the consequences of that.
When you watch it on screen are you rooting for her to triumph?
She’s a very strong woman. That’s why I love playing her so much because she’s such a strong character. We all know she’s not real but what’s great is that the writers saw something – and they just threw the next one and threw the next one and threw the next one [storylines]. And what’s been lovely about that is that we’ve covered so many issues, where I’ve had lovely letters off a lot of women who have been through tough times. It’s nice to know that the character is connecting with so many people out there.
What’s been the highlight of your nine years on Coronation Street?
Seriously, there have been too many! That’s a cliched thing to say, but it’s hard because there have been too many. There have been so many fabulous times. I absolutely love working with Mikey [North]. We laugh, and laugh and laugh every day. He’s become so close. We kid all the time and say sometimes at the end of the scene where we go in for a cuddle. Because, obviously, he’s thirty-odd and I’m not seven hundred. So at the end of it we laugh and we pretend, and we laugh. We’ve got a bit of a sick sense of humour between the pair of us and we just laugh and laugh and I’ll miss him dreadfully. Although I won’t, because he’ll be coming for his tea! Yes, I’ve really loved working with Mikey and all the silly fun times together.

At least if she got murdered, she would have gone out with a bang. I’ve never been a fan of Anna as I’ve always found her to be a screeching harpy, but the actress is not the character and 10 years is a long time to be in a show
When he is finally caught looks like Anna will be found innocent but never return due to bad memories. Maybe Rosie gets her memory back about Phelan that day and they release Anna and she never returns.

I think that getting rid of him - 2022/3, sometime around then - will win Corrie the award as everyone will vote for them out of relief that at last they've git rid of him and the most ridiculous interminable story ever to grace British soap television.
Of course, Britain still has some way to go to match Bobby in the shower or Fallon and the flying saucer, but we're getting there....
There must be a reason they suddenly got Kevin to dump her like a hot brick. Owen will definately be back.

Coronation Street revisits Anna Windass's storyline next week, as her family desperately hope that she'll soon be freed.
Anna has been in jail since January, when she was found guilty of pushing Seb Franklin from a ladder after being framed by Pat Phelan.
Although Anna always protested that she was innocent and that Phelan had masterminded the whole thing, few people believed her story – but that could be about to change.
This week's episodes saw Phelan finally exposed as an evil serial killer as the bodies of Vinny Ashford and Andy Carver were found on the mill site, leading to Phelan's demise.
https://youtu.be/BkADUcSMwtM
Next week, Anna's son Gary can't help wondering what the recent developments will mean for his mum.
As Phelan's evidence played a large part in convicting Anna, there are surely now grounds for an appeal – a possibility that Gary quickly latches onto.
Although actress Debbie Rush has now left the soap, Corrie fans will see Gary and Faye return home from a trip to see her in prison – confident that she'll soon be released. But will life really be that simple?
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday (April 2) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

I think of Anna hitting Eileen as karma for being so stupid and not thinking that 6 people telling her that phelan is bad is a red flag
Anna also thought it was Phelan who she feared

danny barlow starts a free anna campaign
Really? Is this a guess or have you read it somewhere? It's true Anna has hardly been mentioned since it's all come out. Hopefully more is going on behind the scenes to get her released.

i seen a tv mag for next week that nicola wants eileen to get involved in daniel's free anna windass campaign
We had the Free the Weatherfield One when Deirdre Barlow was jailed innocently so only fair that the residents do this for Anna ... I do hope she gets out of jail to see Phelan's comeuppance and I do not want him to die ... might have mentioned this before, sorry :p
I thought she was leaving for good so she might not be back on the Street. We could just get Gary mentioning that she's moved away or something like that...

They might have got her to come back for Phelan's downfall ... just a couple of days filming maybe ...
Coronation Street revisits Anna Windass's jail storyline next week as concern mounts over the lack of news on her release.
Anna was sentenced to five years in prison in January after Pat Phelan managed to frame her for GBH.
The big reveal of Phelan's killing spree left Anna's family with fresh hope that she could be freed, since her conviction mainly relied on the villain's bogus evidence.
In next week's episodes, the local residents start to worry as the authorities are clearly in no rush to help Anna despite everything that's happened.

Fortunately, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) is on the case as he vows to start a press campaign to secure Anna's release from prison.
Daniel is confident that media buzz will help to hurry things along for the Windass family, who are desperate for Anna to get the justice she deserves.
Phelan's daughter Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorp) also decides to get involved, paying a visit to Eileen and encouraging her to back the campaign to free Anna.
Although Anna clearly needs all the support she can get right now, Eileen (Sue Cleaver) refuses to be part of it – complaining that she feels too ashamed to be fronting any public campaign.

Can Nicola convince Eileen to see sense? And is there still hope for Anna?
Corrie's exit for Anna marked Debbie Rush's departure from the role after nine years of drama on the cobbles and show bosses have yet to confirm whether she'll be back as part of this story.
