Now I can see why it is good news Emmerdale is getting a new producer. According to the Daily Mail, once again Emmerdale was in third place behind Coronation Street, and EastEnders in the ratings. While both EastEnders and Coronation Street had over 5.7 and 5.9 million viewers. But Emmerdale was far WORST only 4.4 million viewers! To be 1.5 million viewers behind the competition is not a good thing. Usually, Emmerdale is pulling in 5 million viewers but to be down to just 4.4 million is not a good thing. The writers and producers are focusing on characters nobody gives a crap about. The low ratings are due to the writing it just is not exciting enough to attract an audience. Wow that is terrible, the new producer has a lot of work to do if he wants the ratings up. I thought the Christmas episode was so so, but again not interesting enough for viewers. I think the writers need to come up with better ideas. I also think there are some characters that need to be killed off. The show has too far old a cast of old actors. No wonder Emmerdale is behind the other two soaps. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/article-3374582/Downton-Abbey-wins-Christmas-Day-ratings-battle.html

"They are focusing on characters nobody gives a crap about" Are they? Because funnily enough I'm enjoying a lot of the storylines, especially the Ashley one, so you can count me out of the "nobody" assumption.
As for the ratings, people watch on catchup now so it may not be that dire.
I take publications in the Daily Wail with a pinch of salt most of the time anyway :lweek:
thought emmerdale was best soap on christmas day myself
I found it disappointing to be honest. I was sure we'd have the Johnny paternity reveal. Instead it was all about Belle really.
Ashley was having the "perfect" Christmas but I didn't see Gabby anywhere.
