Coronation Street bosses have denied that they are planning to feature a Muslim extremist storyline.
Reports circulating today (November 27) claimed that the ITV soap was working on one of its most controversial plots to date, which would see a Muslim character turn extremist.
The reports suggested that the show would consider casting new characters for the shocking storyline, which would have undoubtedly caused serious debate.
However, a spokesperson for the show has firmly denied that this is the case, telling Digital Spy: "There are absolutely no plans to introduce a Muslim extremist or radicalisation storyline into Coronation Street."
Viewers know that Coronation Street does not shy away from reflecting social issues. Steph Britton is currently embroiled in a revenge porn plot, whilst Leanne Battersby is involved in a domestic abuse storyline with her young stepson Simon.
I think that would be quite an interesting storyline....
