The build-up to another explosive EastEnders Christmas is officially under way with the release of this festive cast shot.

The BBC soap's regular cast members are seen posing on a snowy Albert Square, which has been decorated for the holiday season.

Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie are included in the photo, as their characters Kat and Alfie Moon will be returning for a guest stint over the Christmas period.

Show bosses have teased that some of the Moons' secrets will explode after they head back to the Square to visit Stacey Branning - paving the way for their upcoming spinoff series set in Ireland.

The Beale family will also reach breaking point in the big week as killer Bobby's bad behaviour finally comes to a head, while there'll be plenty of fireworks among the Mitchells too.

Walford's residents start getting into the Christmas spirit from next week, when Ian decides to take charge of the Square's decorations after learning that the council are refusing to provide a tree this year.

EastEnders has released some exciting new promo shots teasing a hugely dramatic time this Christmas.

An EastEnders statement has promised that several Walford favourites will be at the heart of this year's festive episodes, which will see secrets exposed, families torn apart and lives left hanging in the balance.

The Mitchells and the Beales will take centre stage as they spend Christmas Day together, but with tensions high and so many secrets rife, events soon take a very sinister turn.

While Jane and Ian are desperate to protect Bobby's killer secret, Sharon is also determined to keep her own family safe. However, as tensions heighten amongst the adults, they are unaware that hostilities between Bobby and Dennis are escalating, triggering a catalogue of incidents which will leave lives hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, the war between the Mitchells and Hubbards continues to spiral out of control with both clans going to extreme measures to protect those they love. As the feud reaches its dramatic climax, someone is caught in the crossfire, but viewers will have to tune in to see whether they live to tell the tale.

Stacey Branning is also at the heart of the drama over the festive season as two of her secrets collide. Upcoming episodes will see her finally unlock the mystery to that all-important key, but with Kush wanting to reveal the truth about her baby to their respective partners, she could have a fight on her hands if she wants to keep her family together.
