Hollyoaks newcomers often have an ulterior motive, but that won't be the case when Myra McQueen's toyboy Diego arrives in town.

Myra will return to the village next week to support her grief-stricken daughter Mercedes, but her new lover Diego will be hot on her heels shortly afterwards.

Fan favourite Myra (Nicole Barber-Lane) has spent the past few months in Alicante, where she has tricked Diego into thinking that she is the Countess of Chester.

The revelation that Myra isn't rich and powerful will definitely be a big revelation for gullible Diego, but it seems that won't be enough for him to call time on the romance.
Juan Pablo Yepez, who plays Diego, told Digital Spy: "Diego met Myra in a bar where he was working. They just bumped into each other and it was fireworks from there, but he'd already had an eye on her the whole night. It was meant to happen.

"100% it's love between them. I think there was an immediate magnetism. It just happened and from then on, his feelings have gone crazy. Myra comes back to Hollyoaks and Diego comes running after her. He shows up in a campervan and wants to stay, especially as Myra has accepted him for what he is."

Revealing what to expect from Diego, he continued: "He's a dreamer, he's adventurous and he's a free spirit. He's quite fun, he's transparent and there's no barriers or games being played.

"When Diego shows up, he's spent all of his money so he's going to start again - but he's going to do whatever he can to stay with Myra in the village."

Hollyoaks is Yepez's first major UK acting role since moving over from Venezuela.

Reflecting on the experience so far, he commented: "It's been really lovely. I've been in the UK for nearly four years and never had the opportunity to come up to Liverpool, where Hollyoaks
is filmed.

"When I first got the screen test, I was really excited because Liverpool is known all over the world because of The Beatles. Since coming onto the set, everybody has been really nice, warm and friendly. They've told me that Liverpool people are very chatty and I realised that the first day I got here!

"I'm really happy to be here. This has been my introduction to British television, so it's really a privilege and I'm very excited. In the past I've done soap opera in Venezuela, and a couple of adverts here and there in the UK. I did an episode for Corrie too and then this.

"I didn't know much about Hollyoaks at all so I had to do a crash course. I spent two weeks reading about it and watching online. There's still so much that I've got to watch!"

Update: A Hollyoaks spokesperson has apologised for the error in a statement to Digital Spy.

"We apologise for any offence caused to our audience, due to this oversight. The flag has been removed from any future episodes."

Original story: New Hollyoaks hunk Diego definitely isn't making a good impression on E4's first-look viewers.

The choice of décor in the camper owned by Myra McQueen's toyboy was called into question by many on Twitter – when a Confederate flag was clearly visible on his window.

Rather than heating up the village with his arrival, fans seem more confused about why set designers would incorporate such a controversial flag with Juan Pablo Yepez's character.

The Confederate flag has been seen by many as a symbol of racism, as it was waved proudly by pro-slavery Southern forces in the US Civil War.

Twitter is abuzz discussing the controversy, so we've gathered some reactions below:

Slow clap to @Hollyoaks for displaying The Confederate Flag on tonight's episode @E4Tweets #Hollyoaks pic.twitter.com/rskcvszlDr

@Hollyoaks Diego had the confederate flag on his camper van. That's very distasteful and offensive
