View Full Version : Charlie Hoyland (Xander McGuire)
My first post, so I hope this is right! But I've just read this:
Neighbours returnee Steph Scully could have happier times ahead next year as she is reunited with her young son Charlie Hoyland.
Show bosses have recast the child character, bringing in 12-year-old newcomer Xander McGuire to play the role for a guest stint.
Charlie has been living in Fiji with his father Max, who has had full custody of him over the past few years. The character last appeared on screen in 2011, played by Jacob Brito.
With Steph now out of prison and rebuilding her life, it seems that she may be about to get a second chance to play a role in Charlie's upbringing.
Speaking of his casting, McGuire told the Herald Sun: "It's an amazing first job in the industry. Neighbours has been such a big part of Australian television and has launched so many careers. I'm really excited.
"It was for a bit of fun when I asked to do a screen test. Now that I have a small role, I feel very lucky to be part of an amazing team."
Neighbours' series producer Jason Herbison added: "I'm thrilled to have Xander playing a character that already has a significant history with the show. I have no doubt he will do a sterling job continuing the character's story."
Xander is the son of well-known Australian broadcaster Eddie McGuire. He first became interested in acting last year when he performed in a school musical.
The new recruit will start filming this week and appear on screen early next year.

What a wee cutie he is!
I have loved seeing Steph back on the street and back to her old self, I hope people really start to realise that she went through a hard time, was mentally ill and is now making the best of her recovery.
Although, I can understand being people being a little bit wary, I think it's actually quite a smart storyline. Mental illnesses aren't talked about enough and usually peoples reactions to them are just a lack of education and people are afraid of things they don't know about.
The storyline hasn't been done in a mean way or overdramatic either and I personally find that to be incredibly refreshing, as I've seen soaps handle mental illness in dreadful ways.
I'm from the UK but I watch at Aus pace because Neighbours is my guilty pleasure and the only soap I watch :p

Welcome LauBuch to SoapBoards and I agree with you, there are many facets of mental illness and it is always good if they are addressed in soaps because a lot of people tend to watch them :)
Hi Ames449, and welcome! :)
Thanks for posting about Charlie. I was thinking about him the other day and wondered if he'd come and live on Ramsay Street again.
Thank you for the welcome :)
It will be interesting to see how they bring him back. I wonder if Steph's return could pave the way for some other old cast to return as well.

Oh he is a cute kid!! Him and Jimmy are gonna become good friends, maybe a it like Callum and Bailey??
I enjoy having Steph back, I've watched this show for over 10 years so it's good to see old characters come back. It would be good to have the rest of Stephs family return, like Lyn and her siblings!

I would love that Ames.
Who would you like to see come back? I`d like to see her Mother Lyn or maybe Stephs sisters could come back - even briefly.
I would like the whole family to come back :)
I'd love to see Lyn and flick, but I'm with Perdita on the whole it would amazing if the entire family returned. It would be nice to see Max or Boyd as well, particularly with them bringing back Charlie. I really enjoy when they bring back old characters!
yes for max and boyd return
Neighbours schoolboy Charlie Hoyland faces a terrifying ordeal next month as he gets trapped in a dumpster overnight.
Charlie (Alexander McGuire) gets targeted by his nemesis Archie Quill after boldly jumping to the defence of Jimmy Williams.
Archie turns nasty with Jimmy over Amy's recent saucy cleaning scandal, but Charlie is quick to step in and put him in his place.
Not one to back down too easily, Archie later returns for another argument with Charlie and takes things way too far by vengefully trapping him in the dumpster.

There's panic all round when Charlie's loved ones realise he is missing, but while Paige Smith and Tyler Brennan kiss at the garage, they ignore the distant sounds of him banging for help from outside.
Paige only puts two and two together the next day when Tyler's older brother Mark gets on the case, questioning whether she's seen or heard anything that could be significant to the case.

Paige is reluctant to reveal that she was at the garage with Tyler to avoid upsetting her sister Piper, but in the end decides she has no choice and tells Mark where Charlie could be.
It quickly dawns on Mark what his brother and ex-fiancé got up to, but he's relieved when it helps him to find Charlie successfully. Paige soon assures Tyler that Piper is none the wiser about them hooking up for a second time, but is she right?
Neighbours airs these scenes on Monday, August 1 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.

The poor kid isn't exactly setting the screen alight with his acting, but what makes it worse is that he looks so much like Eddie that I want to change the channel (like I do with Eddie).

He was in the wrong trying to search through Clives pickup - but the way Mark reacted was totally how not to be a cop with the accusations without evidence .... guilty before trial as usual with him ...
