Why is there a picture of a rusty padlock during the commercial breaks in Corrie?

Hi geoffg! :)

It's a shot of the exterior Coronation Street set. Several different shots are used as titles during ad breaks. I think the gate with the padlock might be part of the builder's yard. It looks similar to the one on the right of this photo:

I know it's a late reply, but I've just joined this forum for the first time.

The padlock is one still made by Squire, for I don't know how many decades. It's a Squire Old English padlock. There are four sizes: 220, 440, 660, 880. The one on Corrie is the 660, shown here:

Welcome to the forum Roger. Are you a padlock expert?

Thanks, Dazzle.

Not really an expert, but as a kid my hobby was collecting keys and locks. So every time I see that padlock on Corrie, I automatically think "Squire 660"
I remember I had a 220 and a 440 in my collection.
Is that an admission of sad?

Thanks for the explanation. I agree with Perdita it's not sad; it sounds like an enjoyable hobby for a child. Sadly, it appears to me that most kids' hobbies these days involve being glued to social media and following talentless z-list "celebrities"... :wall:

I know what you mean. Or is it just us older gits who see kids today as missing out on what we had? Just the same as my parents said to me.

Social media - pah, humbug!
Kids today wouldn't know where to begin to pick four lever lock...
