View Full Version : Nessa, Cathy Matthews sister
Ken Barlow is set to find a new admirer on the cobbles.
Ken, played by Bill Roache, will catch the eye of Cathy's widowed sister in episodes airing in September, reports The Sun.
Nessa, who is described as "a man-eater", will upset Ken's friends with her advances towards the soap's long-running character.
But it's not clear whether Ken will reciprocate Nessa's forward feelings so soon after losing Deirdre.
Roache recently revealed that he has no plans to retire from Coronation Street any time soon.
"People always ask when I'm going to retire and I say not anytime soon," he said. "If you want to keep young, you have to keep going. The fact I have to learn so many lines is good for me. I love the Street and everybody in it."
It sounds like this will be a "bit of fun" type storyline. I can't see Ken seriously reciprocating Nessa's feelings. I wonder who will play her?

Remember when Ken and Audrey got close when he was encouraging her to read Anna Karenina? Apparently, the storyline being developed was that Deirdre would suspect they were having an affair, but it was dropped because the Corrie team found out Anne was dying in real life.
I think it's likely they'll pick up the Ken and Audrey friendship again in the future, and possibly develop it into something more. They're well suited.

but as siblings can be 20+ years apart in age
and Cathy is 50-ish?? I was hoping that her sister
would turn out to be a member of Blanches Knit &
Natter Club- a good match I thought:cheer:

Personally I would agree that its best to recover
from a loss before starting another serious
relationship.
However this character has had very recuperative
relationship powers over the years and it is a soap!.
I suppose if it had not been for the sad death
of Anne Kirkbride-Deirdre would have been
the one left on her own and I always hoped
the character would grow old disgracefully!
As a form of compensation! That does happen
in real life when there is a big age-gap!

I am surprised Yasmin has not got Ken to teach a class at her centre maybe on English literature she is another who could be a good friend to Ken and also more on his friendship with Roy too

Ive had a look at pic -but cant recognise actress!
If theres no announcement re casting -I suppose
she will be listed in tv mags out tomorrow-tho
they dont all show the cast listings.
Although shes not looking her best - as upset-
seems younger than I expected - *not realistic
she would be interest in late 70s + Ken??
Another subliminal soap message re desperate

*as Cathys about 50- a sibling could be anywhere
from 30-70 and I thought she might in higher
part of age range!

Nessa is played by actress Sadie Shimmin. Sadie has acted in EastEnders, Mr Selfridge, Holby City, Prime Suspect, Silent Witness, The Bill... well, the list goes on and is very extensive.
Sadie has also appeared in Coronation Street before as Tilly Eaves - an acquaintance of Hayley Cropper. The pair met whilst working together on building an orphanage in Mozambique.
Was it the series itself or just the football scenes that you object to? :p
any scene where they were playing football, and the ludicrous idea that one of the team had trials for England, or that the team shown played at such a high level!!

flattering . Those published in later spoilers
show her as looking older-so I agree ok as
Cathys sister.

ah but , Ken is getting on, and cannot afford to hang about, and I think he should have got with Scary Mary, what a hoot that would be, two "know it all's" slugging it out ha ha

This sort of thing is quite common unfortunately when people are very close. The ultimate betrayal
Whatever we think of the character she is a very good actress
