Show chiefs have already announced that former X Factor winner Ward will be joining the ITV soap's cast as Aidan Connor, a distant cousin of existing regular Michelle.

Aidan hits our screens in August, but his father Johnny and sister Kate will be hot on his heels the following month. They turn up in Weatherfield after learning that Aidan has come to the aid of his old friend Carla by investing in Underworld.

Johnny is billed as a self-made man, who is forced to come out of semi-retirement following his arrival on the Street.

A Coronation Street statement teased: "The ongoing joke is that 'everybody knows Johnny Connor' and it's not far from the truth.

"He's got a big personality and revels in his well-earned reputation as a man who means business. He adores his kids and though he and Aidan constantly row, their love is obvious. Funny, charming, ruthless in business, Johnny is the sort of guy you'd be proud to call a friend."

Kate, meanwhile, is a tough cookie who is more than a match for the men in her family. She is engaged to a soldier called Tess.

Coronation Street's statement added: "Kate is a funny and vibrant young woman full of fun and mischief. But behind the teasing and laughter, Kate is passionate about her family - there is nothing she wouldn't do for them."

Hawley is best known for playing DI Richard Haskons in Prime Suspect, while Brookes has starred on stage in Legally Blonde and Shrek.

Viewers have seen Aidan (Shayne Ward) quickly settle into Underworld in recent weeks, but it turns out that he's been less than truthful about where he got the money to buy into the business.

Johnny exposes the truth in his very first episode next week, revealing that Aidan sneakily stole £100,000 from him.

As the news sinks in, Carla (Alison King) rages at Aidan for lying to her and she wonders what she's let herself in for when Johnny starts going over the factory books with a critical eye.

Prime Suspect actor Richard Hawley has been cast as Johnny, a self-made man who is funny and charming but ruthless in business. Johnny adores his family, but Carla will soon learn that he is no pushover.

Meanwhile, theatre star Faye Brooks has landed the role of Kate, a tough cookie who is more than a match for her father and brother. The show will also be introducing Kate's soldier fiancée Caz (Rhea Bailey).

A Coronation Street statement teased: "Standing alongside Carla, it's clear the Connors are a force to be reckoned with - and as our first family portrait shows, they'll be making their presence felt on the Street."

Coronation Street airs Johnny and Kate's first scenes on Monday, October 5 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street stars Shayne Ward and Faye Brookes have teased happier times ahead for the Connors as they adjust to the life-changing events in recent weeks.
The family has been torn apart by the bombshell that Johnny is Carla's dad, but Kate and Aidan were further shocked to discover that their father's affair actually led to their mother's fatal accident.
There is certainly a long way to go before the siblings can forgive Johnny for his lies, but Ward and Brookes have revealed that their characters will strike up a strong bond with their half-sister Carla.
Speaking on This Morning today (January 13), Ward said: "[Johnny and Aidan] are not going to speak for quite a long time, but Johnny isn't going to stop trying because he wants them to come back as a unit.
"They are a strong family but it is not looking good at the minute. But the good thing is the relationship with Carla because they always felt she was like a sister. They are definitely going to get really close and a lot more drama is going to happen in the factory."
Brookes added: "Kate always wanted a big sister because she never had a mum around and she idolised her cousins like Michelle and Carla. It is a really nice relationship that is forming now."
Ward also spoke about his delight at making the shortlist in the Best Newcomer category at next week's National Television Awards.
He said: "To be on screen for three and a half months and have the Corrie bosses put me forward for it was just mind-boggling.
"That was the longlist and now I have made the shortlist, I am not going to lie - I really want to win it!"

Coronation Street star Faye Brookes has promised that life is set to get even more dramatic for the Connor family as Caz Hammond vows her revenge.

Next week's episodes offer an insight into what is to come, as Caz becomes consumed with jealousy when she fears that Kate Connor is moving on with Sophie Webster.

Upcoming scenes will see Kate call time on her relationship with Caz after she finds out that she has lied about her injury and the circumstances surrounding it.

Struggling to forgive Caz, Kate will remain firm in her decision to split from her next week and finds herself growing closer to Sophie in the process.

As Kate confides in Sophie that she feels stupid for believing Caz's lies, Sophie sympathises and agrees to meet her for a drink after work - and Caz later sees the pair heading to the pub arm in arm.

Faye Brookes, who plays Kate, said: "I can definitely say that Caz is going to be 100% trouble for the Connors and potentially other residents but not directly for Kate.

"Kate is so hurt. She had given Caz another chance and now she has discovered she has been lying all along.

"She will find it hard to forgive Caz. This isn't the first time that she has lied to her so how is she expected to trust her again?"

While Kate's blossoming friendship with Sophie will leave her future with Caz looking increasingly uncertain, Brookes has a very good idea of who the fans want her alter-ego to be with.

"100% Sophie," she said. "I'm hoping that Sophie and Kate will become better friends because of it. That's what they are first and foremost, but Caz wasn't happy about that and it affected Kate and Sophie's relationship.

Coronation Street's Johnny Connor is set to face a multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's scare in an upcoming storyline.

Johnny (Richard Hawley) has been displaying some strange behaviour of late, much to the concern of daughter Kate and wife-to-be Jenny.

Last week, he could be seen stumbling out of the Rovers, leading Kate to believe he was drunk.

However, Liz later informed her that Johnny hadn't been drinking alcohol, which left her even more alarmed.

Following the alarming incidents, The Mirror now reports that Johnny will undergo testing for both MS and Parkinson's over the coming weeks.

Kate will also be seen sharing her concern about Johnny's health with other Weatherfield residents, including Fiz, Sean and Izzy.

Viewers will have to wait to find out what the outcome of the tests are, although this wouldn't be the first time this year a soap has incorporated MS into its scripts.

On Hollyoaks, viewers have seen soap veteran Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox) diagnosed with MS in recent weeks.

The storyline has marked the return of former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt to soapland.

The actor joined the Channel 4 soap as Nancy's ex-boyfriend Kyle, who also suffers from the condition.

Rickitt recently revealed that there are a lot of twists and turns in his relationship with his former flame, as he helps Nancy following her diagnosis.

Coronation Street actor Richard Hawley discussed his exit from the soap on ITV's Lorraine today (June 15).

His character Johnny Connor told his family for the first time last night that he had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Now, fans are wondering what lies ahead for the cobbles favourite

"I've got no idea what's going on – I don't even know the short-term future and I enjoy that," he said. "This is a great job to have. I'd like to stay on the show but you have to take it year by year and story by story so you can give it your all.

"When Kate Oates told me we were going to do this story, she told me it isn't an exit storyline because Multiple Sclerosis is slow progression.

"But I don't really see how this can't be an exit. Not that I'd mind an exit storyline because you can get great stuff from it. I'd like to stay on Coronation Street for a long time though actually."

While researching Multiple Sclerosis, Richard revealed that what stood out for him is the reluctance in men to seek help when they start to show concerning symptoms.

He explained that, just like in real life, his character was hesitant to see a doctor.

"People can say Johnny has done the wrong thing, but having said that, this is what some people do after receiving a diagnosis," the actor explained.

"In a sense, he's gone into denial. A big part of this story is accepting what's happening. None of his reactions are wrong."

Richard described the opportunity to take on such a heavy storyline as a "privilege".

He added: "It's a big journey, which is still getting deeper. It's not just about the exterior but the interior as well."

Coronation Street's Kate Connor is about to get a shock new love interest – but Faye Brookes has warned that there might be a backlash from fans.

Things have been rather quiet on the romantic front for Kate ever since her ex-girlfriend Caz Hammond ended up in jail for stalking Maria Connor, but we have already revealed that's all about to change.

Faye – who plays Kate – has previously teased that her alter ego's new relationship will be hard to guess and could surprise people. But she's now given away even more gossip on the upcoming plot – admitting that she's unsure how fans are going to take it.

"There's love coming her way," Faye told The Sun Online. "Which I think she so rightly deserves after what she's going through but it's completely unexpected.

"I'm thrilled about it. I don't know whether the general public are going to take to it, I just know it's going to shock people for the right reasons.

"I think this love interest is just what Weatherfield needs – it's not what you expect at all."

One thing we do know about the mystery romance, is that it definitely won't be with Sophie Webster, after Faye told Digital Spy earlier in the year that the pair will only ever be friends.

Coronation Street has officially confirmed that Johnny and Jenny Connor will be the new owners of the Rovers Return.

The spoiler picture above offers a first look at the new dream team behind the bar of the iconic pub, as the Connors take over with support from newly-reinstated barmaid Liz McDonald.

Recent Corrie episodes have seen Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Henry Newton (George Banks) lined up as the next Rovers owners, but it turns out that their dreams all come to nothing.

Early next week, as Toyah and Leanne Battersby are preparing to leave the pub for the final time, Peter Barlow pops up and helpfully points out that unreliable Henry still hasn't signed the contract.

Henry is then forced to deliver some shocking news to Gemma, who's left devastated to realise that she may not become a landlady after all.

Despite an emergency trip to the bank to get the money together, Henry and Gemma are ultimately forced to step aside when Jenny and Johnny put in an offer of their own.

Scenes airing on Wednesday, August 8 see Peter give Johnny and Jenny the grand tour of the pub, but there's just one problem making life awkward – Liz (Beverley Callard).

With Liz working as a barmaid again, Jenny is thrilled to have her on board, but Johnny (Richard Hawley) fears it's going to be a terrible idea after their recent short-lived fling. Will this end in tears?

Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny, revealed: "Jenny and Johnny are now at a loose end, because they are not going to Spain and they have not got the factory because Johnny doesn't particularly want anything to do with the factory.

"But Johnny is a businessman. He is always looking for an opportunity and suddenly they are presented with the possibility of getting The Rovers, which Johnny thinks would be a great idea.

"Jenny is not up for this at first. Firstly she was supposed to be queen of the factory, secondly she was supposed to be swanning it up in Spain with the villa, the swimming pool and the beach-pine table, but suddenly she is going to be working in a poxy backstreet boozer. It's not what she had in mind for herself.

"But she recognises that Johnny needs this to take his mind off Aidan and her heart belongs to Johnny Connor, so she will do whatever makes him happy."

Jenny also smooths the waters with Gemma by offering her a job as barmaid, making sure she still gets a chance to move on from the kebab shop.

Sally Ann continued: "Jenny is pretty adaptable. She sulks for two minutes, then runs to the moon with the idea. As soon as Johnny persuades her about The Rovers, she goes for it big style and she starts to make all kinds of plans for it. She wants it to be a cut above everything else.

"The one spanner in the works is Gemma, because Jenny and Gemma are kind of sisters because they have both been brought under Rita's wing. She knows how much The Rovers means to Gemma and the thought of telling her is heartbreaking. Jenny can see the pain in Gemma's face and she feels really bad, but Johnny needs this more.

"Jenny offers Gemma a job thinking this will make it all better, which Gemma is not too happy about. But I am looking forward to working with Dolly behind the bar because it will just be chaotic and fun."

Coronation Street is set to line up a new mystery for Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) as a new arrival on the cobbles panics him.

The TV Times reports that when a businessman decides to rent the spare room at the Rovers Return on a long-term lease, Johnny's wife Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) is delighted at the prospect of earning some much-needed cash for her and Johnny.

But when Johnny meets the new arrival, Scott, he appears to be very uncomfortable and it becomes clear that the pair have a history.

In fact Johnny is so disturbed that he suggests that he and Jenny take an impromptu holiday in an effort to get away from Scott – something Jenny is oblivious to.

But what could Johnny's connection to Scott be and why is he so worried?

Johnny and Jenny have already been through a lot since getting together, most recently when Johnny took the blame for Jenny after she knocked over Liz McDonald in a hit and run accident over Christmas.

Actor Richard Hawley, who plays Johnny, recently said that he believes Johnny and Jenny can continue to make their marriage work despite their setbacks.

"They'll save it because they want to work hard on it," he said. "What's happening is it's all coming out now (following the car accident) and they know where they are with it, so they're saving something that's less burdened than before."

But with Scott potentially set to have a big impact on Johnny's life, are the couple about to experience even more problems?

Scott?s arrival on the street has really blown Johnny?s mind. What feelings has it brought back for him and how has he kept these hidden for so many years?

Johnny?s been faced with sheer terror by this blast from the past. Johnny has skeletons in the closet and this ghost from the past, with whom he has a serious common history, is now threatening his future. There?s also real mixed emotions for Johnny, what happened with Scott was a long time go and while Johnny has completely reinvented himself they were once very close, he does feel guilty about his part in it and maybe feels he owes Scott something but he does not want to go back down that route. So Scott turning up has not only brought back the past, it?s threatening to blow his cover and the life he?s created.

How desperate is he to keep the truth from Jenny and his family?

He 100% does not want this to get out, he thinks it will completely destroy his family. Nobody knows about this, not even Carla. He doesn?t want Jenny to know who he was or what he did.

When he hears that Scott is going to be working for Ray does this make him feel uneasy? What does Johnny do?

He pulls a bit of a fast one and talks to Ray about Scott?s past, yes he knows the truth about Scott but he?s no friend of Ray?s either. I think he sees it as an opportunity to try and push Scott out of Weatherfield and get rid of the problem that way.

When Scott finds out that Johnny has been speaking to Ray is Johnny worried? Does Scott still have a hold over him?

Yes Scott still has a hold over him, he?s constantly threatening to tell Johnny?s friends and family about what they did in the past.

How does Johnny react when Scott tells him he wants him to be getaway driver or he?ll tell Jenny everything?

He?s absolutely stuck which brings on massive stress and attacks Johnny?s health. He tries to tell Scott that with his MS he couldn?t do it anyway. They were young and it was a long time ago, Johnny?s changed, he?s tried to build a whole new respectable loving family so why should that be destroyed when he doesn?t want to do it.

Does he think he would lose Jenny if the truth came out or do you think their relationship is strong enough to withstand this?

He thinks he?d lose her but I think their relationship would be strong enough to withstand it. They?ve been through a lot and it?s worth holding onto.

Are you enjoying looking into Johnny?s past?

I?m enjoying it hugely, it?s a different kind of story for me, it?s very much Johnny?s story and it?s great to work with other actors like Tom. My stories so far have been very family based, with Aidan, Kate and Carla, then Johnny?s illness and his relationship with Jenny. This is something that?s taken place outside of all that yet threatens it all. It brings a whole new dimension to the character which is lovely for me to play.

Obviously Johnny?s a Connor, does this show us a bit more about where they came from?

I think so yes, they?re a tough old clan with plenty of tough secrets and some of those come out. Johnny and Carla are constantly realising just how dark some of their histories are and how much they have in common because of that. They come from the same place and it?s a tough place and that?s what?s shaped them.

How much longer do we have to see this stupid storyline, with Jonny? neither Scott nor Jonny are very convincing as ex naughty boys,
and why has Corri got so many awful men at the moment, Ray, Gary, Scott, Jonny, Mick(?) all trying to be hard men and plus we still have Geoff!

Not enjoying Corri at the mo, I don't actually care about Jonny,
think Jenny should get a "lover" poor girl she's always in rubbers---gloves that is

Geoff will get his comeuppance soon so something to look forward to but why on earth they brought Todd back with this incredibly stupid and unbelievable storyline is beyond me .. lockdown fever going round the scriptwriters? :wall:

So it appears that Jonny and Jenny and Craig get embroiled in Scott's plan for crime and someone gets hurt,

Let it be Scott and Jonny shoot each other kill two birds with one stone and they can die with their crimes secret

would like to see Jenny have a new love💘

this couple are so dull, or should I say Jonny is'🚮 Jenny is quite funny with her misguided coyness, this could raise some laughs👍

Coronation Street has lept into the new year with huge storylines, one which will see Johnny Connor behind bars.

Johnny (Richard Hawley) has been battling with guilt over an armed robbery he committed decades ago and the horrific impact it had on the security guard Grant.

Johnny was arrested on suspicion of burglary and GBH last year and will be sentenced in the coming episodes.

One issue that the writers were keen to explore in this storyline was Johnny's MS diagnosis and how that will impact his life in prison.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod said that the show will be exploring the medical condition as "an issue-based story".

"We were keen to do justice to the MS side of Johnny's character and experience. Perhaps at times, that has been visible in the show and at other times not," MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media.

"We felt we should start telling that story in a similar way we would other long-running medical stories, like Sinead's cancer, and investigate what life would be like for Johnny with that medical condition.

"We'll be exploring that with a little bit more of a spotlight on what that's actually like and treating it more like an issue-based story."

MacLeod said sending someone to prison with a particular medical condition adds an "extra level of difficulty" for them, so they were keen to explore that in Johnny's story.

"When we knew that we were sending the character of Johnny to prison, Richard Hawley was very keen to talk to me about how we should be exploring what it'd be like for a man with that condition behind bars.

"It's an extra level of difficulty if you do have a medical condition like this. We will 100% be investigating the truth of that."

Upcoming episodes will see Johnny's eyesight begin to fail, and on the day of Johnny's sentencing Imran asks the judge to show leniency in the sentence, citing Johnny's genuine remorse for his past actions and his poor health.

I shed a tear at hearing Aidan call Johnny, he died a hero saving Jenny who should blame herself and Carla will blame her also

Faye and Michelle back for his funeral or will it be off screen?
