Round-up:

The day of Deirdre’s funeral arrives, and Ken remains full of rage towards Tracy, who is surprised when she spots her ex husband Robert at the service. Ken’s eulogy includes a swipe at Tracy, prompting her to miss the wake. Catching Robert and Tracy in a passionate clinch, Ken is furious and finally lets rip at Tracy for her behaviour over the years, just as Peter turns up after missing the service. The three argue over who has caused Deirdre the most distress, until Peter implores Tracy to turn her life around for Amy’s sake. After trying to make amends with Carla, Tracy is confronted by Tony’s henchmen at Barlow’s Buys. Robert scares them off and tells Tracy that he has never stopped loving her. The rest of the residents bid an emotional farewell to Deirdre. Bethany plays truant and heads to the Dog and Gun, where she gets drunk. Callum covers for Bethany when the school calls Sarah, but Bethany cheekily tries to blackmail him into paying for a holiday. Carla’s gambling begins to take over her life as she misses the funeral and heads to the casino. Liz becomes suspicious of the animosity between Leanne and Dan, who turns violent as he warns Leanne to keep quiet. Following the funeral and news of Peter’s emigration, Simon’s behaviour worsens and he lashes out at Leanne again. Gary and Alya announce their engagement.

Why bother to get Chris Gascoyne back for the funeral only to have Peter miss the service?

I think it will all be part of the "blame game". Who caused Deirdre more distress, Peter or Tracy. Peter couldn't even get there for the funeral etc.

I find it disrespectful to Anne/Deirdre really. Especially as it seems that Peter is leaving so swiftly as a plot device for Simon to be abusive towards Leanne again.

Coronation Street continues to pay tribute to the late Anne Kirkbride in tonight's episodes (July 13) as her iconic character Deirdre Barlow gets an on-screen funeral.

The day is a fitting mix of tears and laughter as Deirdre's loved ones mourn for her but also find the strength to celebrate her life and remember the good times.

Deirdre's husband Ken (Bill Roache) does her proud with an emotional eulogy that leaves everyone moved, but he also causes raised eyebrows with his cold behaviour towards Tracy throughout the day.

When Ken snaps at Tracy (Kate Ford) one time too many during the service, it leaves her deeply upset and in need of some time to herself. With Tracy's ex-husband Robert Preston in town for the funeral, will she seek solace in the arms of her old flame?

Peter Barlow has even more bad news to deliver to his troubled son Simon in Coronation Street tonight (July 16).

When Simon pays a brief visit to Peter (Chris Gascoyne) at Number 1, he's shocked to hear that his dad has a brand new job working with a charter boat company in the Caribbean.

Simon (Alex Bain) is crushed to hear that Peter will be further away than ever and demands to go with him, making it clear that he's miserable living in Weatherfield with Leanne.

Peter naturally points out that Simon's idea just isn't practical and he is soon on his way out of Weatherfield again, leaving his son behind. Will Simon continue to take out his anger on Leanne as a result?

Simon should be with his dad, wherever he goes. End of.
Doesn't make any sense to me that he's staying with Leanne. And doesn't make any sense either that Leanne wouldn't tell Peter about Simon's behavior.
Hell with stability, clearly Simon is not happy where he is, why not to give his dad a chance? We just saw him preaching to Tracy about Amy, what about his own responsibility as a parent?

Leanne getting custody in the first place never made much sense to me. To be fair, I think Simon sees Leanne as his mum rather than just a step-mum, and Peter was in a bad place at the time. Now that Simon's so unhappy the situation should be reconsidered. Peter's always deeply loved Simon and wanted custody of him when he and Leanne split up, so I think he'd take him now if he knew what was going on - even if he had to give his job up to do so.

I guess we have to suspend our disbelief in situations where actors leave and the producers want to keep their characters' kids around. The explanations they come up with are unfortunately often out of character, but I can't think of an explanation that would sound reasonable for Simon not living with Peter now if that's what he wants.
