Home and Away bosses are lining up more trouble on Summer Bay with the arrival of new guest character Trystan.

Ben Mingay has already started filming scenes as Trystan, and will be on screens later this year.

Described as "dark and shady but with a hidden soft side", Trystan's ties to the Bay are currently unknown - but he is expected to shake up life there in a dramatic way.

"It's awesome news," Mingay told the Australian Daily Telegraph. "I'm thrilled to be working on a show that has great value, a strong storyline and is well shot.

"Trystan is a dark and shady character who hits Summer Bay and turns things upside down."

Mingay's previous television credits include Wonderland and Packed to the Rafters.

Home and Away newcomer Ben Mingay has teased that his villainous character Trystan could still be popular with fans.

It was announced earlier this year that bosses had cast the actor in the guest role of dark and troublesome Trystan, although his exact ties to Summer Bay are being kept under wraps.

Fans will have to tune in to see what brings Trystan to the Bay, but it has been confirmed that his presence will cause a massive headache for Charlotte King.

Mingay told TV Week: "He's pretty well-presented for a bad guy. He is stirring up the Charlotte situation.

"Judging by what fans are saying about Charlotte at the moment, I think he will almost be a bit of a welcome villain. It is like one bad person sorts out another."

Speaking about his new role, Mingay admitted that he is not fazed by playing a villain, adding that it is a welcome change to playing funny characters.

He said: "The night before I booked this character, I was telling my girlfriend how much I would like to change it up from the funny guy to a bad guy. The next morning, I got the call.

"It is good to go somewhere different as an actor. The go-to for a lot of guys portraying villains is to be scary, but I tried to be a bit more calculating."

Home and Away will air Trystan's first scenes this week in Australia and later in the year in the UK.
