Former Emmerdale star Adele Silva has joined the cast of Hollyoaks.

The actress has landed a guest stint on the soap playing a new character named Angela.

A Hollyoaks spokesperson confirmed Silva's casting to Digital Spy, but little more is known about the character.

A show insider also denied newspaper reports that her role will be involved in storylines with the Blake family.

Silva played Kelly Windsor in Emmerdale intermittently from 1993 until 2011, and turned down a return to the soap when she found out she was pregnant.

She gave birth to a baby girl in March 2015, after previously suffering three miscarriages with her fiancé Oliver Farber.

Adele Silva's Hollyoaks storyline will see her play a key role in Peri Lomax's teen pregnancy drama, Digital Spy can reveal.

The former Emmerdale actress is joining the Channel 4 soap for a guest stint as Angela Brown - one half of a couple who will plan to adopt Peri's child.

News that Silva would be joining Hollyoaks first emerged last month, but details of her role can be confirmed for the first time today.

Angela and her husband Mark Brown are a childless couple who are desperate to start a family, so they seem to be the perfect fit to adopt Peri's baby.

The role of Mark will also be played by a familiar face, with CBeebies star Ben Faulks confirmed to take on the part. Faulks is best known for his starring role in Mr Bloom's Nursery on the children's channel.

Over the next few weeks, Hollyoaks fans will see that Peri is still determined to give her baby away after the birth - even though her boyfriend Tom Cunningham is still against the idea of adoption.

With Tom being supported by his family who start to interfere in the situation, the big question is whether the Browns will get their much longed-for baby and how Tom will cope if he does have to hand his child over.

Speaking of her casting, Silva told Digital Spy: "I'm over the moon to be joining the show as Angela - I've watched it from the beginning so I feel like I know everyone already. I must remember not to call them by character names!"

Faulks added: "I'm extremely chuffed to be joining the Hollyoaks team and looking forward to the time ahead in Liverpool."

In real life, Silva gave birth to a baby girl in March - her first child with her businessman fiancé Oliver Farber. The couple had previously endured the heartbreak of three consecutive miscarriages.

Meanwhile, Digital Spy understands that Faulks and Hollyoaks have been keen to work together for a while, but needed to find the right role which would fit alongside his CBeebies persona.

A show spokesperson explained: "The Browns will play an important part of an emotive storyline and we are delighted to have Ben and Adele on board."
