Coronation Street is lining up another big stunt, as the show's cast and crew have been filming shock fire scenes.

The Corrie team were working on the major storyline on a night shoot at the ITV soap's base in Trafford on Tuesday evening (April 14), catching the attention of locals in the surrounding area.

Officials at the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service made a statement on Twitter after concerned members of the public mistakenly reported the special effects as a real-life fire.

We understand that the storyline in question will air in May, when a fire breaks out at the Victoria Court flats.

Little more is known about the plot at this stage, but it will be the first major stunt to be filmed at Coronation Street's new set at MediaCityUK.

Corrie last aired a fire storyline in early 2013, when the Rovers Return was set ablaze by Karl Munro. The story led to the departure of Sunita Alahan as she was seriously injured in the fire and was later killed by Karl at the hospital because she knew too much.

Coronation Street spoilers: Kal Nazir and Maddie Heath to die in horror explosion?
Coronation Street is set to be rocked by a shocking fire storyline which looks set to spell the end of departing character Kal Nazir.
Kal has previously been tipped for an explosive exit from the show and this fits the bill quite nicely. Cast and crew have been filming long night shoots in preparation for the big plot.
The fire is tipped to break out in the Victoria Court flats in scenes that will air later on in the Spring.
As the scenes were filmed, locals to the set contacted the fire brigade upon hearing the explosions.
Maddie Heath is also due to leave the Street in the coming weeks and could be another potential victim in the latest stunt to hit Britain’s unluckiest Street.
Kal may not have been the most interesting character but at least he might go out with a bang!

As seen in a newly-released picture, a shock blaze will rip through the Victoria Court flats towards the end of May - and it's now been revealed that Weatherfield schemer Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) will be at the centre of the story.

A fire rips through the Victoria Court flats

Tracy is currently fixated on the idea of taking over the Rovers Return with her secret lover Tony Stewart, but upcoming episodes will see her arch-rival Carla Connor unknowingly thwart her plans.

When her dream of becoming the pub's latest landlady lies in tatters, Tracy will become consumed with rage and is determined to get revenge on anyone she thinks has wronged her.

First on Tracy's hit list is Liz McDonald, as she leaves her heartbroken by revealing that her partner Tony is a love cheat.

Choosing the day of Steve and Michelle's wedding to reveal all, Tracy doesn't just tell Liz about Tony's affair but also their attempts to secretly steal The Rovers.

Liz will be desperate to ensure that Steve and Michelle's big day isn't ruined by Tracy's spiteful behaviour, but can she really stop the shock revelations from casting a shadow over the event?

After dealing with Liz, a furious Tracy will also decide to exact the ultimate revenge on Carla - in a move that has shocking consequences for many on the cobbles.

A Coronation Street spokesperson teased: "Tracy's revenge on Carla will fuel an explosive week on the ITV soap which will culminate in a massive fire at Victoria Court. But will the fire be part of Tracy's plan, or will her vengeance take on a mind of its own?

"The details of this must see week of drama are being kept under wraps - with lots of twists, turns and surprises for fans promised."

The dramatic week of episodes airs from Monday, May 25 on ITV.

A new Coronation Street picture shows the shocking moment that schemer Tracy Barlow prepares to carry out the ultimate revenge on her enemy Carla Connor.

When her plans to take over The Rovers fall apart, Tracy (Kate Ford) is consumed by rage for those she feels have wronged her, and Carla is the first person on her list.

Determined to wrack havoc, Tracy initially challenges Liz to a showdown shortly before Steve and Michelle's wedding is due to take place. Wanting to create maximum upset, Tracy happily reveals all the details about her affair with Tony, including their plan to take over The Rovers.

Coronation Street has seen its fair share of fires over the years, but show bosses are promising that the upcoming Victoria Court blaze will be the most spectacular in the soap's history.

Producers recruited special effects experts Real SFX to work on the upcoming stunt, which is being billed in an ITV press release as "the biggest fire ever seen on Coronation Street".

Real SFX, headed up by Danny Hargreaves, have previously worked on other memorable Corrie disasters including the 2010 tram crash and the 2013 Rovers Return fire.

Teasing the latest blaze to rock the cobbles, Hargreaves commented: "This is the biggest fire and explosion we have ever worked on for Coronation Street. Bigger than the tram crash explosion and the Rovers fire.

"We had 30 large gas bottles and a huge amount of explosives. A special effects team of six controlled the fire ignition and we worked alongside the firefighters from Rapid Fire who also work on a lot of TV and film fires.

"The temperatures within the sets were extreme and I was very impressed by the cast who did some of their own stunts. Everyone had to wear fire-proofed clothing and all the sets are coated to ensure that nothing actually catches fire. The fire can literally be turned on and off in seconds."

The fire takes hold at Carla Connor's flat following a visit from vengeful Tracy Barlow, before rapidly spreading through the rest of the building. However, whether this was actually part of Tracy's plan won't be revealed until the episodes air next week.

Hargreaves continued: "A set of the interior of the flats was built off-site in a huge warehouse. For the exterior filming a drone was used in some of the shots, and we had to be aware of where that was at all times so we didn't blow it out of the sky with the explosion!

"The local fire brigade were advised of what we were filming, but the effects were so realistic that a resident nearby heard the explosion and dialled 999. Even though they knew we were filming, they still had to come out and check everything was okay."

Coronation Street's cast and crew spent a total of five weeks filming next week's episodes. The exterior night shoots for the fire were shot between 7pm and 6am over a period of seven nights.

David Kester has directed the episodes, while stunt co-ordinator Neil Finnegan oversaw the entire shoot.

Coronation Street airs the storyline at 9pm every night next week.

She isn't I know that but everyone watching Corrie and reading this board knows that she will be-and those scenes will be aired in July :( What I'm saying is that I didn't want Tracy to commit yet another crime, I wished she would have changed for better. But now it looks that she's responsible of the fire(which also kills 1 or 2 people) so she will be arrested eventually..Not the future I wanted for her-plus that when she's caught, she will be off the street as well! Soon there's no characters left, no Barlows either and..no Corrie.

Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has teased a huge summer for the soap, as several characters are forced to deal with the repercussions of the fire.

Next week's explosive episodes will see a fire take hold at Carla Connor's flat following a visit from a vengeful Tracy Barlow, before rapidly spreading through the rest of the building.

Speaking at a Coronation Street press event today (May 22), Blackburn revealed that both Tracy and Carla will be going in very different directions in the aftermath of the fire.

Discussing the impact on the rest of the Weatherfield residents, Blackburn also confirmed that several other characters will be heading into the summer on new journeys as a result of the tragedy.

He said: "The centre of these episodes is Tracy's revenge and that hasn't come from nowhere. That has been brewing for months and years. The jealousy that started off when she was with Rob has built and built into utter loathing.

"Coming out of these episodes, those characters are going on very, very different journeys and it is the same for everybody involved.

"Jenny Bradley, Kevin, the Nazirs, Leanne and Simon - everyone involved is going to head into the summer with stories that could only happen because of this fire."

Fans can rest assured that the drama will not end after the fire episodes, as Blackburn also teased an exciting summer ahead filled with reveals, returns and romance.

He said: "It is a really spectacular summer we have got coming - it is not all about weddings and fires.

"We have got the reveal that Gavin isn't Gavin but is Andy, we have got the escalation of the war with the Platts and Callum, we have got some beautiful stuff with Craig and the Tinkers, and a possible new love for Roy. It's really, really good stuff.

"We have also got the return of Kylie, Fiz and Eva and the arrival of Tristan Gemmill, Sarah Harding, Paddy McGuinness and Shayne Ward. At the moment, Coronation Street is physically and metaphorically on fire!"

Coronation Street airs the fire storyline at 9pm every night next week.

Yes, she starts it but I don't think she realised how bad it would turn out

How do we know that - all the hype is pointing that way but it could have been something Kal did accidentally when he went back for the ring - where does he live? In one of the promos Tracy is asking 'what's happened?' and looks genuinely startled when the block explodes - not got her usual smug expression. She hasn't actually done anything to Carla as we can see the pic of her trying to escape - suppose it would be history repeating itself if she'd clobbered her with the award............

could it be made more obvious kal and maddie are dying, be nice to have a surprise unannounced death exit from this fire

tracy left candle light in flat so she did start the fire if it was unintentional

Jane Danson has praised this week's big fire episodes, saying it is the show "at its best".

Last night's instalment of the ITV soap saw a fire take hold at Carla's flat after Tracy Barlow left a candle burning underneath a lamp.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today (May 27), Danson said: "Do you know what, it was quite exciting because it was almost like doing a separate TV show because we were so self-contained doing all the special effects.

"There was a wonderful special effects team, who did the tram crash, who also did the Rovers fire. They did all our special effects but this one in particular was quite big.

"I can't give too much away, but there are quite a few twists and turns along the way. I had quite a lot to do, a lot of night shoots. But it was Corrie at its best - all the characters together, a real ensemble. It was just great fun to film."

Tonight's episode will see Danson's character Leanne enter the burning Victoria Court building after being the first character to spot the fire, but viewers will have to tune in to see whether she runs into more danger once inside.

Danson said: "Leanne goes to find Kal because she's getting a bit anxious. She wants that ring on the finger! She goes to find him, en route she spots that something is amiss at Carla's flat. So that's when all the action begins."

Regardless of the outcome of the fire, Danson has admitted that she doesn't think the writers will ever allow Leanne to be truly happy.

She said: "She's just not one of them characters that's ever going to be happy, which provokes more drama for me as an actor. I'd like her to find a little bit of happiness, but something tells me that she won't."

Coronation Street airs tense scenes tonight (May 28) as Jenny Bradley and Maddie Heath have a showdown at Number 13.

Last night's episode saw Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) caught out as Maddie walked into the house and spotted her in a dark wig, thwarting her plans to secretly run away with Kevin Webster's son Jack.

Although Jenny is quick to make excuses for her bizarre behaviour, Maddie (Amy Kelly) isn't fooled and demands an explanation for why she has packed Jack's belongings into a hold-all.

Backed into a corner, an erratic Jenny insists that she is only trying to protect Jack and soon turns nasty when Maddie threatens to tell Kevin and Sophie everything. With Jenny determined not to back down, can Maddie find a way to raise the alarm before it's too late?

Coronation Street's Nazir family may have been left devastated by the soap's fire tragedy, but it seems they still have a strong future in Weatherfield.

Show producer Stuart Blackburn has pledged his commitment to the on-screen clan following the departure of Kal (Jimi Mistry), who was killed off in dramatic scenes in Thursday night's episode.

Kal's tragic final moments saw Victoria Court explode while he was still trying to escape from the burning building, having helped to rescue local youngster Amy Barlow from Carla Connor's flat.

While the Nazirs have a tough time ahead as they struggle to adjust to life without Kal, Blackburn has insisted that they will be staying in the show.

"We're planning ahead right through until autumn and we've got some great stuff coming up for them - I really, really enjoy the Nazirs," he explained.

"Just from that last scene after Kal died, you can see how good Qasim who plays Zeedan is, so watch out for him. We've got massive stuff for Alya coming up too, which of course the grandparents Sharif and Yasmeen will be involved in."

He continued: "I think in a way, my favourite episode of the fire week is the Friday one. That's when all of the dust has settled and we see the silence and the grief. The Nazirs come into their own in that one.

"They've got a bright future - although they're not going to be very happy for a while!"

Thursday's episode ended with a grief-stricken Zeedan angrily blaming Kal's partner Leanne Tilsley (Jane Danson) for his demise, as she had made the decision to rush into the burning building to save Amy.

Despite Zeedan's outburst, the tension won't last for long as he ultimately starts to see Leanne in a new light.

Blackburn added: "Zeedan blaming Leanne was a moment in time where he was lashing out. They're actually going to get really close. Zeedan has wised up a little bit. He knows how much Leanne meant to Kal. There's trouble ahead for Leanne, and Zeedan's going to be there trying to help and support her. It's what his dad would have wanted."

Meanwhile, asked whether Tracy's role in how the fire started will ever be exposed, Blackburn replied: "Eventually - but it's utterly unproveable!"

the keys are still with Tracy maybe Michelle notices their missing. Sean let her go to the back room but like Stuart says it will not be able to be proved. I think people will think Amy moved the candle as is lying like her mum. Amy is known to lie in the past
