Dermot O’Leary has left his presenting role on The X Factor, saying it is “time for me to move on”.
The star, who has been a mainstay of the hit ITV talent show for eight years and also presents a show on Radio 2, thanked show supremo Simon Cowell.
He said: “After eight wonderful years on The X Factor it’s time for me to move on. I’d like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long.
“I’d like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me. You’re about to be the conductor on the most brilliant, runaway train in showbiz. Good luck you’ll love it!”

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack are to be the new presenters of The X Factor, becoming the first ever duo to host the hit singing show.
Olly and Caroline will bring their chemistry and charm to the show, having previously co-hosted The Xtra Factor on ITV2. They will be on hand at every stage of the audition process to congratulate and console the budding singers who are vying to be the next big superstar. They will also be tasked with keeping the judges in order, once the live shows start.
Olly Murs, said: “I'm incredibly excited and proud to be returning to The X Factor alongside Caroline. I love the show and it kick-started my career in music which has given me the opportunity to do what I love. I already have the best job in the world and it's about to get better - I can't wait to get started and be part of finding some amazing new talent!”
Caroline Flack, said: "I'm beyond excited about presenting The X Factor with Olly. To have the privilege of doing this with someone who makes me laugh out loud is a massive bonus!

I'm pleased they will be presenting. I really enjoyed watching them on the Xtra Factor show, and Olly is a great entertainer. I saw him live a few weeks ago.
ive no interest in a judging or presenting role this year :p think the show is done even with likeable olly and caroline back
After 11 years on the show, it seems Louis Walsh will not be returning to The X Factor judging panel.
There’s been speculation over his job ever since the end of the last series, but now reports seem to confirm he’s been sacked.
According to The Sun, Simon Cowell told Louis personally he wouldn’t be needed for the next series
An insider told the paper: ‘Viewers had become sick of Louis’s constant use of tired clichés and the same old jokes.
‘He’d been doing it for 11 years and it seemed like he was just going through the motions.’
With Mel B and Louis out of the picture, it means X Factor bosses are frantically searching for two new faces to join Simon and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for the next series.
And the bookies seem to have former contestant, One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, as a favourite to become a judge.
An X Factor spokesman said: ‘No formal decisions have been made regarding the full panel for this year’s series.’

Sarah-Jane Crawford has waved goodbye to The Xtra Factor and will not be returning for the next series.
The star was only a part of the talent contest for a year, after joining the ITV2 spinoff show as presenter in 2014.
Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora are officially joining The X Factor judging panel.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ and 'RIP' singer will appear alongside returning judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell for this year's singing competition.

Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora are new X Factor judges: For and Against
Voice UK coach Ora said: "I am excited to be coming back to The X Factor - I had a ball here in 2012. This is a journey I can't wait to embark on to find some talented singers. It's the new generation taking over. Boom!"
Grimshaw added: "I love X Factor and have watched the series religiously since it started, so obviously I'm hugely excited to be joining the show.
"Music is my job and my passion and I'm really looking forward to seeing what talent we can find and nurture this year. I can't wait for Judges' Houses in Oldham!"
It was widely rumoured that the duo would be replacing show icon Louis Walsh and last year's judge Mel B, with Walsh himself admitting that there was a "great, great chance Grimmy will get [his] job".
Fernandez-Versini, who returns to the panel for her fifth series, said of the new line-up: "I haven't been as excited about an X Factor season since I first became a judge.
"The addition of Rita and Grimmy along with some interesting changes we've made to the format has refocused us to do what we do best, finding talent and making stars. I cannot wait to get started!"
Show boss Cowell added: "It's taken a while! But I am very happy to be able to confirm our line-up of judges for The X Factor this year. The combination of Nick, Cheryl and Rita is going to be a lot of fun!
"I have a feeling I am in for a bit of a rough time but sometimes you have to embrace the craziness and now, with luck, we hope to find a star."

Before the news was officially announced, 75% of Digital Spy readers said they didn't want Grimshaw on The X Factor judging panel.
Ora recently appeared as a coach on rival BBC One singing competition The Voice UK, and first appeared on The X Factor in 2012 as a guest judge.
The X Factor returns to ITV in the autumn, with Caroline Flack and Olly Murs taking over from Dermot O'Leary as co-hosts.

Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom confirmed as Xtra Factor hosts
Enter The X Factor's secret underground lab in the first advert for this year's series.
The new promo - which will be shown tonight on ITV at 7.30pm before Coronation Street - will see the show's new presenting duo Caroline Flack and Olly Murs discover the secret formula of the popular singing competition.
New judge Nick Grimshaw is shown being fitted with a special judging microchip, but he soon realises he has last year's model when he can't stop saying: "You look like a popstar, you sound like a popstar."
Fellow newbie Rita Ora is shown sitting through feedback training, while Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has been turned into a robot and multiplied for every possible emotional outcome during the series.
The X Factor 2015: 8 stars who could replace 'Voiceover Man' Peter Dickson on the show
Simon Cowell also appears to have found his holy grail , boasting: "I've already found this year's winner. It's a group.
"Girls are going to love them, boys are going to love them, bigger than One Direction."
The camera then reveals a duo that Simon is more than familiar with - his pet dogs Squiddly and Diddly.
'Voiceover Man' Peter Dickson recently announced that he would not be voicing this year's series, after being with The X Factor since it debuted in 2004.
Dickson's departure was just the latest in the wide series of changes the show has seen this year, with Mel B and Louis Walsh leaving the judging panel and Dermot O'Leary stepping down as host.
Sarah-Jane Crawford also left The Xtra Factor, with Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom taking over hosting duties on the ITV2 spinoff show.
The X Factor returns to ITV this autumn.

The Daily Star Sunday can reveal that 22 of the 24 hopefuls who make it through to judges’ houses were asked to audition by show talent scouts.
Around 80% of acts in the six seat challenge and an incredible 92% of those who go through were cast by production.
It also emerged that Louisa Johnson, who is the bookies’ favourite to win, originally auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent but was asked to apply for X Factor because producers believed she was more suited to the singing contest.
According to our sources the talented 17-year-old then entered X Factor and her BGT audition was never aired.
Although these revelations will shock viewers, we can reassure fans that judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez- Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw do not know contestants have been scouted before their audition.
Our X Factor insider said: “Out of the 24 acts who have made it through to the judges’ houses stage all but two of them were found by talent scouts, which will be a massive shock to the public.
“Although the show makes no secret it hires people to find talented contestants and has technically done nothing wrong, the public will be horrified to hear that only two acts who chose to audition off their own bat are still in with a chance of winning.
The X Factor final just got an extra special boost of star power as Adele has signed up to perform.
The ITV show teased us all on Twitter by tweeting simply: "Hello"... before adding that Adele really will be popping up in Wembley Arena on Sunday night's show.
She will indeed be performing 'Hello' (which finalist Che Chesterman covered earlier in the series, incidentally).
Sunday's show will also feature One Direction and Coldplay as the show celebrates "the best of British music".
But that's not the only exciting announcement, as it emerged that Little Mix and Fleur East will perform on Saturday night's show - together.
We can only imagine how fierce that performance is going to be... and it seems like Little Mix are looking forward to it too.
They'll join Ben Haenow, who will be performing his new single 'Slamming Doors' on Saturday night.
And he's promised a "little surprise" - any guesses?
Leona Lewis has also signed up to perform, but we're not sure which night she's taking to the stage.
As for the actual final, we'll be seeing Che Chesterman, Louisa Johnson and Reggie N Bollie battling it out to win The X Factor.
It all kicks off live from Wembley Arena on Saturday, December 12 at 8pm on ITV and Sunday, December 13 at 8pm on ITV.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is to divorce her French husband after 18 months of marriage.
The X Factor judge has begun formal legal proceedings by filing paperwork which cites irreconcilable differences between her and partner Jean-Bernard.
We can disclose the former Girls Aloud singer secretly split with Jean-Bernard FIVE MONTHS ago.
But they are determined to remain close friends.
An insider said today: "In the end Cheryl realised she had married too soon and had been swept away by a bit of a whirlwind romance.
"Over time it became clear to each of them that they were very different people and from very different worlds.
"They are now focusing on making sure they stay friends. The divorce is amicable and they have both said they will always be there for each other."
The pair were last seen together in public in October – hand-in-hand at the joint 40th birthday bash for I’m A Celeb hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Fans saw it as a united front but in reality the relationship had ended two months earlier and the pair attended the party together as close friends.
Cheryl and Jean-Bernard married on the island of Mustique in July 2014.
The surprise wedding followed a courtship lasting just a few months and Cheryl has told those close to her she now realises it was too soon.
The couple have taken their time to file divorce papers because they wanted to be absolutely certain about their decision to call it a day. Cheryl is worth an estimated £20million but is understood that they have no pre-nuptial agreement.
A source confirmed that the former couple have completed legal documents to end their marriage citing "irreconcilable differences".
The source explained: “They actually split up in August. They are still very good friends but are now getting a divorce.
“By the time of Ant and Dec’s party they were just close friends who still enjoy spending time together. They were having a great time with their friends but there was nothing intimate by that stage. In the end they found they got on well but in reality probably got married too soon.
"But JB has said he’ll always be there to support her when she needs him and he’s a very honourable guy.”
The insider said that reports of Jean-Bernard “abandoning” Cheryl to go on business trips to Miami had been completely unfair to him – insisting that the pair had stayed very friendly throughout.
The source added: “It was unfair for people to criticise him for being away on business.
“He hadn’t done anything wrong.”
Jean-Bernard has now completely moved out of the London home he shared with Cheryl and is spending most of his time in the United States. Rumours of a rocky patch in the marriage surfaced at the end of last year after JB failed to attend filming of The X Factor.
His absence meant Cheryl faced a barrage of speculation about the marriage and even cruel questions about her slimline appearance.
But the rumours subsided slightly when Jean-Bernard made a public statement of support for his wife in November – insisting he would “put my life on the line” for her.
The nightclub and restaurant entrepreneur wrote on his Instagram page: “I normally don’t read or comment. But the truth is that even when my dad died I put my life on the line for my wife.
“Yes I am working like everybody else to put food on the table but my priority is my wife as this is the last person that is family. This is just nonsense.
“What matters is family and my wife is my only one left so if she needs me I am always going to be there. My wife Cheryl is my priority, nothing else.”
That heartfelt statement came despite their decision to separate and JB remains committed to supporting Cheryl in her personal life and career.
This week she hinted at optimism for the New Year, revealing to fans she plans to get back in the recording studio to start work on her next album.
Alongside a sultry black and white snap, she wrote: “I think its time for the studio! It is 2016.”
Two days later she posted an image of herself flashing a beaming smile, describing it as indicative of her current “mood”.
And on Friday she followed up with a slightly cryptic message of empowerment to other women, hinting at her frustrations over ongoing gossip.
It read: “Sending love to women out there trying to love themselves in a world that constantly tells them not to.”
The upbeat messages came following Cheryl’s admission on New Year’s Eve that she was “happy to see the back” of 2015.
She wrote: “You have taught me a lot but I am happy to see the back of you! Happy New Year everyone.
“I hope this year brings you everything you wished for and is filled with *happiness, love and laughter!”
Cheryl met Jean-Bernard through mutual friends in early 2014 and became close during the Cannes Film Festival where he was running his Cosy Box pop-up restaurant.
The venue is a haven for celebrities and Jean-Bernard has hosted A-listers including The Rolling Stones and mixed with stars including Ryan Gosling and Benicio del Toro.
But even Cheryl and JB’s closest friends had no idea of what was to come when the pair went abroad to marry a few months later.
The pair haven't been spotted together for weeks but Jean-Bernard was pictured wearing his wedding ring in a photograph on Instagram yesterday.
The wedding was attended by just four guests including Cheryl’s mum Joan and her personal assistant and close friend Lily England.
Cheryl was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole. She filed for divorce in 2010 after four years of marriage after reports he'd cheated on her.
A representative for Cheryl refused to comment.

Following Nick Grimshaw's shock exit from The X Factor after just one season, the DJ has been quick to explain his decision.
Speaking on his Radio 1 Breakfast show this morning, he said his decision to leave is not "a diss" to the show - and joked that Simon Cowell owes him a curry.
"I did love it and it's not a diss to the show. It's a great show and I loved it. But it's definitely a once in a lifetime style thing," he said.
"This isn't me storming out of X Factor being like, 'Screw you, Cheryl'."
He added: "You can't have a curry when you're on it on a Saturday night, because you're there.
"What's really good about X Factor is watching it at your house with your friends [and] having a curry. When you're there, there's no curry. Simon promised me curry."
In terms of a replacement, it could be a battle between two men named Louis - One Direction star Tomlinson and long-time X Factor stalwart Walsh have both been rumoured for a judging job on the show in recent months.
Olly Murs has quit too now
Olly and Caz suited the after show, less formal scripted and personality driven..a lot less stress.
It needs a total revamp, engage the contestants in creating new music like they did on fame academy using real writers to co write including the judges who should stop making the show about them.
FA had the right format, it was just destroyed by the producers making sure who they wanted to win did so..where is she now? The runner up however is still about, his current on going self penned tune is Sky F1 theme tune. Thats the root Id take, bin off the karioki and nurture musical talent all with a live feed
