The recently announced car accident involving Matt Turner on Neighbours will be the result of texting while driving, it has been revealed.

The Australian soap will see one of its best-loved characters tragically affected in an accident, in a bid to tackle the dangers of texting at the wheel.

In the forthcoming storyline, Turner (played by Josef Brown) becomes the victim of a car crash as driver Danni Ferguson (played by Laura McIntosh) is distracted by texting while driving.

McIntosh said: "A lot of us have done it without thinking, so I was very happy when the producers talked me through the story, it's a very important message to get out there."

Neighbours' Series Producer Jason Herbison added: "We had discussed for a while doing a storyline around this topic because it is so prevalent and sadly people's lives are impacted in the most drastic ways, and even good people like Laura's character can make shocking choices."

Neighbours will air these scenes next month on Channel 5, starting on Wednesday, April 8. The soap airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.

I think she is, she's the only "Danni" in the show.

I thought it was going to be either Demato or one of his henchmen deliberately running over Matt.
It`s good that they`re having a texting while driving story line. Hopefully it will bring a lot of awareness to this cause, and hopefully saves lives in the process.
