I can see the practical and financial benefits
of Chesney giving up Joseph to go abroad
with Katy.Sinead has health probs -hopefully
temporary and Fizz is away and he probably
feels he should give Joseph chance of better
life will his mum and her family!!

But there is an emotional side to parenting
as well. Joseph may adapt well and not
have any regrets as he grows up - but if
it was real life he may become one of those
people who feels one parent gave up on
them too easily and resent being"abandoned"
which may affect his outlook on life
detrimentally. This can affect a child more
long term than a less affluent childhood.

As they will be in different countries- no
easy answer. There are holidays but
not the same as more continual contact.

She is a single parent in Portugal too and won't get benefits other than her mum and it looks like dad supporting her..less struggles, I admit though

Round-up

After waving her mum off to Portugal, Katy realises that she has missed her personal trainer’s exam. She drowns her sorrows and pours her heart out to Chesney, who changes his mind and agrees that she can take Joseph to Portugal. Sinead is horrified and implores him to rethink. As Katy bids farewell, Chesney is in turmoil over whether to let his son leave for good. Gail seethes as Andy plays the perfect son, telling him he must eventually move away and fade from Michael’s life. When Nick catches Gail trying to amend Andy’s details on the bistro’s computer, she swiftly comes up with a plausible lie. David is angered when Gail gets on well with Callum’s mum during his first mediation session. Gail hides evidence of Gavin’s death from Michael, but when his aunt turns up, Gail has to think quickly to avoid them meeting. She is also shocked to learn that Gavin died of a heart attack. Bethany turns up on the street, but her explanation over her sudden appearance is proved false when Sarah calls from Italy. Emily tries to push Billy and Sean back together, but Billy’s insistence on keeping their relationship secret causes further strain. Sharif realises that Kal and Zeedan have been planting eggs to disguise the fact that the hens have not been laying and decides to get revenge. Andrea tries to fix Lloyd and Steve’s friendship, but Steve worries that there is no going back. They finally find some common ground as they attempt to fix the cab office chair. Jenny cooks for Kevin and the family, but Kevin is called away on a job. Jenny overreacts when Jack picks up a small piece of food and rushes away, prompting a worried Sophie to tell Kevin. Sharif offers to share his allotment with Roy.

Over on Coronation Street, David Platt is pleased when Callum Logan loses his temper at their first mediation session.

Callum (Sean Ward) is determined to win custody of his biological son Max, despite David desperately trying to prevent it from happening.

After Callum annoys Gail by joking that they should resolve the issue with an arm-wrestle between her and his own mother, the two families later attend the meditation session with tensions at an all-time high.

When Callum becomes hot-headed in front of the mediator, David (Jack P Shepherd) can't help but feel quietly pleased that he is showing his true colours.

However, after the session finishes, David is unimpressed to find Gail getting on well with Callum's mum in the waiting room and quickly ushers her out. But are they any closer to reaching an agreement on Max's future?

Realising she can't take Joseph away from his dad, Katy tells Linda that she won't be moving to Portugal after all. Chesney is relieved to hear that Katy has decided to stay but she is bitter in response, pointing out that she didn't really have a choice. As an upset Katy waves Linda off, knowing she has turned down the chance of a lifetime, she realises with horror that she has missed her first personal trainer exam.

Depressed Katy then heads to The Rovers. Parking herself next to Callum, she demands that he buys her several drinks. Later, as an amused Callum guides a drunken Katy home, she shouts at him to leave her alone.

Callum guides a drunken Katy home

On his way to Sinead's physio session, Chesney wades in and tells Callum to clear off, before helping Katy into her flat. At the hospital Sinead tries to stand, terrified that she'll never walk again. Will Chesney be by her side, or have his priorities changed?

Meanwhile, Andy fusses round Michael, doing his best to be the perfect 'son'. Gail quietly seethes, hating Andy for involving her in his web of deceit. Gail tells Andy that as soon as Michael is well enough, he must move away and fade from Michael's life. Andy is surprised to realise how much this upsets him. Later, Steph points out that with Gavin now dead, Andy can no longer use his National Insurance number. Gail accesses the Bistro computer hoping to change Gavin's details, but she is startled when Michael walks in. Are they about to be caught in the act?

Elsewhere, aware she has caused a rift between Billy and Sean, Emily resolves to put things right. Emily dupes Billy and Sean into meeting in The Rovers, but will they sort out their differences?

Also, Kal and Zeedan enlist Simon's help with their egg scam. Simon is thrilled, but is Sharif onto them?

Finally, Callum winds Gail up by suggesting that she could have an arm-wrestle with his mum and the winner could have custody of Max.

Sinead begs Chesney to reconsider, pointing out that Joseph should be with his dad and not hundreds of miles away, but Chesney is resolute. In desperation, Sinead insists on Kirk taking her home. She explains how she intends to have a last-ditch attempt at changing Chesney's mind about letting Joseph go. However, when Beth finds Sinead sprawled across the kitchen floor having fallen out of her wheelchair, she phones for an ambulance.

Back in hospital, Sinead tells Chesney to dump her and focus on Joseph. How will Chesney respond to this?

Meanwhile, David and Callum attend their first mediation session. Callum loses his temper in front of the mediator and David is quietly pleased. However, in the waiting room, David is unimpressed to find Gail getting on well with Callum's mum and ushers her out.

Elsewhere, Andrea and Michelle cajole Lloyd into taking Steve to a northern soul night, but it's clear the old mates are awkward in each other's company. Making excuses, Steve eventually bails out. Back at The Rovers, Steve is downbeat as he explains to Michelle how he feels his friendship with Lloyd is a thing of the past and he doesn't know how to fix it.

Also today, having had a call from Tony to say she can move back into her flat, Leanne suggests to Kal that he should move in with her. Will Kal agree? Later, when Gail hands Sharif a bowl of eggs and explains that she found them under the hedge, Sharif is thrilled.

Finally, with his family seemingly falling apart, can Owen salvage his relationship with Anna and his girls?

When Gail spots Gavin's obituary in the paper, she quickly throws it in the bin, leaving Michael oblivious. At the Bistro, Gail later shows Andy the obituary. Telling Steph that he can't handle the stress, Andy walks out and leaves her to cope on her own. As Andy heads to the pub, he is approached by Bethany, who has just arrived from Milan. Bethany cheekily persuades him to buy her a drink in The Rovers.

Later, Michael's aunty Barbara calls at Number 8 to break the news of Gavin's death. Gail lies, making out that Michael is in hospital and won't be able to attend the funeral. Gail sprints across the road and heads Michael off, insisting that he goes for a drink with Steph and promising to join him shortly. Gail then rushes back to the house and ushers Barbara out, promising that as Michael is too ill, she will attend Gavin's funeral in his place.

As Barbara leaves, Gail breathes a sigh of relief, but in The Rovers she is stunned to find Steph and Andy at odds as he has been entertaining Bethany. Pointing out that Bethany is only 14 and shouldn't be drinking, Gail drags her home. Bethany explains how Sarah is too busy with work to care about her, so she thought she would visit her gran. Gail is touched, until she speaks to Sarah and gets a very different story. What is Bethany's game?
