Harry is shocked to learn that Mary-Claire is thinking of leaving Holby. Faced with the prospect of losing her, Harry finally admits to himself that he is in love with Mary-Claire. However, when he summons the courage to tell her how he feels, she is less than impressed with his 11th hour declaration. Rather than having the effect that he had hoped for, it spurs Mary-Claire to tell Ric that she is withdrawing her application for theatre manager at Holby - it is time for her to move on.

As Harry struggles to prove himself to Mary-Claire, his focus wavers from his patient, a young woman called Grace who is suffering from a sickle cell crisis. Her boyfriend Elijah is also less than impressed with Harry. When he feels that Harry is paying more attention to his love life than his work, he decides to make a grand gesture to gain Harry's attention. However the plan goes awry, leaving Elijah's life hanging in the balance. Harry takes his own life in his hands to save Elijah but is not so lucky himself, suffering critical injuries. As the team battle to save Harry's life, it is Mary-Claire's turn to wonder if she has left it too late to tell Harry the truth about her feelings…

Harry puts himself in danger

Meanwhile, as Jonny struggles to deal with stretched resources on Darwin and find space for an unexpected patient, he is unaware of Elliot's revelation that the Kibo patient's death was caused by human error. Guy and Ric embark on an investigation which raises more questions than answers. Jac believes that Guy is just following protocol, but Jonny's doubts prove to be well founded as it becomes clear that he is under suspicion.

Elsewhere, Zosia and Arthur's attempts to hide their own vulnerabilities lead to some unfortunate misunderstandings on Keller.
