Former EastEnders and Waterloo Road star Zöe Lucker has joined the cast of Hollyoaks as a new regular.

The actress has landed the role of Reenie McQueen, who is the daughter of Nana and the mother of recent arrivals Porsche, Celine and Cleo.

Lucker filmed her first scenes for the Channel 4 soap this week and will arrive on screen in April.

Speaking of her casting, Lucker commented: "I am really excited to be joining Hollyoaks - especially as a McQueen!

"Reenie is a very complex character and will, in time, have a very interesting story to tell."

Reenie's first scenes will see Porsche visit her in prison, where she is serving a sentence for a crime. The show newcomer will then move to the village further on down the line.

Hollyoaks' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood previously cast Lucker in EastEnders, on which she played Vanessa Gold in 2010 and 2011.

Kirkwood said today: "I am delighted to be working again with Zöe. In my mind there was only one person to tell Reenie's important story and thankfully she was as intrigued by the character as we are.

"We are thrilled that Zöe will be becoming a McQueen and know that she will bring Reenie to life for our audience."

A Hollyoaks spokesperson added: "Reenie is a good-time party girl without an 'off' switch and can be exhausting company although deep down she is the most vulnerable of Nana's children.

"She hasn't set the best example to her three girls, who she raised largely on her own and frequently lets them down. Emotionally she's got issues and sometimes it's difficult to tell just who the mother is and who is the daughter."

As well as EastEnders, Lucker is also well-known for her roles as Carol Barry in Waterloo Road and Tanya Turner in Footballers' Wives.

Zoe Lucker has spoken about her Hollyoaks debut for the first time, promising that her character Reenie McQueen isn't a bad person deep down.

Reenie - who is the mother of recent arrivals Porsche, Celine and Cleo - makes her first appearance on screen next week. The character's introduction sees Porsche pay a visit to her in prison, where she is currently serving a short sentence for a petty crime.

As Porsche revisits her past, it becomes clear that she doesn't want Reenie anywhere near her family again. With Reenie's release date looming, Porsche even tries to bribe her into staying away once she is free again.

Lucker told All About Soap of the storyline: "As much as Reenie would love for all her daughters to welcome her back with open arms, that's not the case at all. Things have gone on in the past and Reenie's not behaved particularly well as a mum. She's got a lot of problems.

"The thing with Reenie is, she has a good heart and she does want to be a good person, but she's very self-destructive and sabotages herself if things don't go the way she wants them to. She's made a lot of mistakes, and although she'd really love to be the perfect mum, she just can't do it.

"She's constantly trying to make up for herself to prove she can change, but then something will knock her and she'll go back to square one."

To Porsche's dismay, Reenie will head straight to the McQueen house when she is released in a few weeks' time.

Lucker added: "Porsche doesn't want Reenie to live with them. But Reenie ends up getting out a day earlier than expected and turns up on the McQueens' doorstep, much to Porsche's horror. She's got a bag full of clothes and says, 'I'm here'.

"I think she'll try and fit in. She does want to change, but things aren't all going to be smooth running for her. She has this terrible tendency to sabotage herself all the time - she wants to be liked and there's a part of her that is genuinely very likeable. She's fun, but there's also a side of her which is just so damaged."

Lucker's previous TV and soap roles include regular parts in EastEnders, Waterloo Road and Footballers' Wives.

Troubled Reenie McQueen will contemplate murder on Hollyoaks later this month after being confronted by a sinister face from her past.

Reenie will be rocked when her mother Marlena reunites with her abusive ex-partner Derek Clough, played by former Butterflies star Bruce Montague.

Derek used to beat Marlena when they were together, but Reenie also has her own secret reasons for being disturbed by his presence.

The storyline begins when Derek makes contact with Marlena from hospital, revealing that he is dying.

Despite protests from Reenie that she should stay well away, Marlena takes pity on Derek and invites him to stay at the McQueen house. They also later get engaged as Marlena hopes to help Derek enjoy the time he has left.

Zoe Lucker, who plays Reenie, told All About Soap: "She's so distraught that Marlena has allowed this man back into their lives, and this time Reenie doesn't hold back about how she feels.

"There's a lot of anger there towards her mum, and in the heat of the moment, Reenie forces Nana to choose between her and Derek. Reenie tells her mum that if she marries this man, then she's leaving."

On the moment that Reenie considers drastic action, Lucker continued: "She's been drinking quite heavily and she comes home to find him asleep on the sofa. Reenie picks up a cushion intending to smother Derek, but just as she's about to do it, Nana comes down the stairs and stops her. Nana goes bonkers. She has no idea why Reenie hates Derek enough to want him dead.

"It's revealed that Derek used to beat Nana quite badly when they were together, and at first Nana assumes that Reenie's behaviour is linked to that. So if the truth about what went on all those years ago comes out, it's going to be awful for all the McQueen clan."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.

Reenie McQueen's return scenes next week as she arrives back in the village for Pete Buchanan's sex abuse trial.

Reenie (Zoe Lucker) turns up to support her daughter Cleo a few days before the court proceedings are due to begin, but she gets a mixed reaction from her family.

While Mercedes and Celine are both delighted to see Reenie, Cleo seems uneasy over her reappearance and keeps her distance.

It's naturally a difficult time for Cleo as she braces herself for what might be revealed in court, especially when she is asked to visit the police station to be prepped for Pete's trial.

When Celine later confides in her mum about how she tried to kill Pete (Kai Owen) a few months ago, Reenie is furious over the devastating impact that he's clearly had on her whole family.

Determined to deal with Pete in her own way, Reenie meets up with him for a drink and tries to trick him into a confession.

Having spent a whole year lying and deceiving those around him, could Pete slip up at the eleventh hour? Or will he be too clever for Reenie?
