Round-up

Steve avoids his GP appointment and decides to drive the factory staff - Carla, Alya, Julie, Michelle, Sally, Sean, Sinead, Maddie and Kirk – to the awards ceremony, leaving a drunken Beth behind and taking Tracy along in Izzy’s place. Some boy racers cause Steve to swerve off the road and crash, leaving the minibus precariously perched on a ledge and the passengers’ lives hanging in the balance. Steve regains consciousness and, unable to deal with the situation, walks away from the scene. Tracy is left in charge of Carla’s fate as the bus teeters on the edge of a precipice. Steve finally admits to Michelle that he needs help and seeks medical attention for his depression.
Several of the bus crash survivors, especially Sinead, face an uncertain future as the full extent of their injuries become apparent. Anna accompanies Gary to his court appearance. After Gary avoids a prison sentence, he and Jason hit the town to celebrate. Roy begins his community service under the watchful eye of Yasmeen. Luke mistakenly believes that Steph is pregnant with Gavin’s baby. David, buoyed by recent activity on their bank account, steps up his campaign to find Kylie and bring her home. David, Eva and Max all leave messages on Kylie’s phone, telling her how much they miss her.

That's what depression does to you.

At my most depressed times I've noticed that, although I know intellectually I still care for my loved-ones, I'm completely unable to feel that love (along with any other positive feelings), which causes me to behave as though I don't love them. It's still there deep down though and comes back when I improve.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street's Steph Britton will become increasingly uncomfortable when she is forced to lie to Michael Rodwell.

In scenes to be aired this week, impostor Andy (Oliver Farnworth) will confide in Steph about how he has taken on the identity of Michael's son Gavin.

Although Steph is shocked, they both decide to keep the news to themselves as they believe the truth could prove fatal for Michael, who has a serious heart condition.

In the days that follow, Steph (Tisha Merry) will struggle to keep the secret, telling Andy that she hates having to lie about who he really is.

Andy insists that it's the only solution until after Michael has had his heart operation, but it's clear that Steph is struggling to keep up the pretence.

Coronation Street: First pictures of minibus crash tragedy

While several lives will initially be left hanging in the balance, Sinead Tinker will be the most seriously injured of the group.

The crash leaves Sinead with long-lasting injuries that will devastate both her and her boyfriend Chesney Brown.

Speaking at a Coronation Street press event today (January 12), producer Stuart Blackburn said: "For Sinead, she is going to be injured really very seriously.

"I have been watching some early scenes that have been shot of Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead, and Sam Aston, who plays Chesney. It is just truly, truly heartbreaking.

"They have a long way to go. We all know how forgiving Katie is but I don't think Chesney is ever going to stop blaming Steve for that."

Meanwhile, the crash will be a turning point for Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) as he is finally forced to face up to his depression.

However, he still has challenges ahead of him as his actions on the night of the incident are called into question by his family and the other crash victims.

Blackburn said: "This was not just a stunt for stunt's sake. It is a crash that is going to mark a massive change for Steve.

"It is a turning point where he is absolutely forced to admit to himself, to Michelle, to Liz, what has actually been happening to him. For those guys, it all makes sense and fits into place."

Blackburn continued: "For him and them, it is a kind of turning point. It is not going to be easy, depression doesn't work like that and Steve will be carrying a lot of guilt from the crash.

"But it is an onwards and upwards journey for them and I can say that there will be wedding bells! Although the odds of two Corrie weddings going well... we will have to wait and see!"

It has also been confirmed that the crash will have huge repercussions for enemies Carla Connor and Tracy Barlow, as their relationship will change forever as a result.

Coronation Street will air these scenes in the week commencing January 19.

Coronation Street's Antony Cotton has revealed that he had a broken rib during filming for the soap's dramatic mini-bus crash scenes.

The actor - who plays Sean Tully on the ITV soap - sustained the injury away from the set, but had to go on filming the difficult scenes with the injury.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: "I broke a rib in the middle of it as well. I got a chest infection from being out through the night, and I got up for work and I sat up funny and broke a rib from coughing.

"It happened the day we were beginning all the stunt work, so that was fun."

Cotton added that filming scenes was also challenging due to his general fear of transport.

"I'm claustrophobic, don't like heights, and have a fear of transport generally. I don't like flying, I don't like mini-buses, I don't like coaches. The only thing I'm not frightened of is trains. I think it's called being a control freak," he explained.

Upcoming episodes will see the staff of Underworld caught up in the horrific accident as they head off on a factory outing.

During today's (January 12) press conference, it was revealed that Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) will be the most seriously injured as a result of the crash.

Coronation Street will air these scenes in the week commencing January 19.

Speaking at a press conference today (January 12), she said: "It's been quite a journey for the people involved in the depression storyline. Obviously, this is the turning point really. So from here there's still a further journey to go. Steve isn't suddenly better, and that's what we wanted to get across about depression. It's not that cut and dry.

"We go through the whole what happens next, with him getting treatment and seeing how his family support him - or don't support him depending on who we're talking about.

"It is still a journey, but it is the start of Steve and Michelle loving each other again. She was always going to be there for him, but she's just so shocked that he felt like he couldn't talk to her."

The actress also confirmed that Steve and Michelle will be the next Weatherfield couple to tie the knot.

She said: "I'm delighted, absolutely delighted. It'll be weird after being Michelle Connor for nearly nine years, but it totally makes sense for us as characters. Simon and I love working together, and nobody likes to see us broken up."

Upcoming episodes will see the staff of Underworld caught up in the horrific accident as they head off on a factory outing.

During today's press conference, it was also revealed that Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) will be the most seriously injured as a result of the crash.

Liz reminds Steve that she has made him a doctor's appointment, but when Andrea can't find a driver to take the factory girls to the awards ceremony, Steve volunteers as he is hurt after seeing Michelle kissing Hamish.

The factory staff are in high spirits as they set off. A drunken Beth gets left behind, while Tracy takes Izzy's spot alongside Carla, Alya, Julie, Michelle, Sally, Sean, Sinead, Maddie and Kirk.

Later, Kirk realises that he has picked up Beth's phone by mistake. A mobile rings under one of the seats and as she undoes her seatbelt, Sinead reaches out to get it. However, as the mini-bus speeds along, some boy racers cut them up, causing Steve to swerve off the road. The mini-bus crashes and flips on its side…

Meanwhile, Alya offers to accompany Gary to court, but he insists that she mustn't miss her night out with the factory girls and Anna and Izzy will be with him anyway. How will Gary fare in court?

Elsewhere, Roy starts his community service under Yasmeen's beady eye.

Also, when Luke overhears Michael commenting on Steph eating for two now, he is horrified to realise that his sister is pregnant. Later, Steph tells Andy how she hates having to lie, but Andy insists it's the only way until Michael has had his heart operation.

Airs Monday, Jan 19 2015 at 20:30 GMT on ITV

Steve, Carla, Alya, Julie, Michelle, Sally, Sean, Sinead, Tracy, Maddie and Kirk lie motionless as the mini-bus hangs perilously on the edge of a precipice. As Steve regains consciousness, he looks around him at the carnage, shocked to the core.

Clambering out of the mini-bus, Steve realises it's in danger of slipping down a sharp slope. Unable to deal with the situation, he walks off.

As some of the passengers regain consciousness and drag the injured to safety, the mini-bus suddenly lurches violently. Tracy locks eyes with Carla, realising she is still trapped. With the bus teetering dangerously on a cliff edge, will Tracy help Carla get out alive?

Meanwhile, concerned for Roy, Yasmeen sends him home - pointing out that he finished his community service session some time ago.

Elsewhere, Jason drags Gary into town in celebration of the fact that he avoided a prison sentence.

Airs Wednesday, Jan 21 2015 at 19:00 GMT on ITV

As Carla's life hangs in the balance, will Tracy resolve to help her? Or will she keep quiet and leave her arch-enemy trapped in the bus as it plunges headlong into the quarry below?

Meanwhile, Steve is shocked to the core and sits in silence, petrified. The police and ambulance teams arrive at the crash site and tend to the injured. As Alya clutches a head wound, Kirk pleads with Sinead to wake up. Will everyone make it out alive?

Soon afterwards, the police approach Steve, wanting to question him. As Michelle helps Steve to his feet, he finally breaks down admitting to Michelle that there's something seriously wrong with him and that the doctor reckons he is suffering from depression. Will Michelle have the words to help him?

Airs Friday, Jan 23 2015 at 19:30 GMT on ITV

Steve stares into space, clearly troubled. Michelle tells Liz that she'll be there for him, but the big question is whether she will take him back as a partner. Aware that she needs to make a decision, Michelle meets with Hamish. Will she end the fledgling relationship and focus her attentions on caring for Steve?

At the same time, gossip is rife as the factory girls discuss the crash and how Steve walked away and abandoned them to their fate.

Meanwhile, in the hospital, the doctor tells Sinead that she has a bone pressing on her spine and needs an urgent operation. Sinead is fearful that she'll never walk again. Chesney, Beth, Kirk and Craig watch anxiously as Sinead is wheeled away for her operation.

News of Tracy and Carla's fate also spreads through the street, while Eileen phones Billy to make him aware of Sean's accident. Gary arrives at the hospital, desperate for news about Alya.

Elsewhere, Yasmeen puts Roy to good use at the community centre, letting him devise some cookery classes. Roy embraces the challenge.

Also, as David peruses his bank account, his spirits are lifted to see that Kylie has been shopping in Freshco. He sets off to look for her. Will David be able to trace Kylie?

Finally, Gavin and Steph break the news to Michael that Steph isn't actually pregnant and it was a false alarm.

Airs Friday, Jan 23 2015 at 20:30 GMT on ITV

Chesney, Beth and Kirk wait nervously for news of Sinead's operation, terrified that she may never walk again. Chesney confesses to Beth that he has never loved anyone as much as he does Sinead. Will Sinead come through the operation?

Meanwhile, Gary apologises to Alya for not being there for her, but is it too little too late? Later, in an attempt to make amends, Roy offers Gary a job in the café. Roy tells Mary that he is trying to put things right and hopes that they can still be friends. Will Mary thaw towards him?

Elsewhere, Billy admits to Sean that when he heard he'd been involved in a crash, it made him realise how much he means to him and hopes they can be more than just friends. Will Sean be able to grab his chance of happiness?

Also, as gossip about the crash continues, Michelle is quick to leap to Steve's defence. Steve confides in Michelle that Sinead might end up in a wheelchair and everyone blames him for the crash. Michelle holds him and with some encouragement, Steve takes his first anti-depressant pill.

Finally, David, Eva and Max all leave messages on Kylie's phone telling her how much they miss her and begging her to come home.

Coronation Street airs its first huge storyline of the year tonight (January 19) as the Underworld workers are caught up in a horrifying road accident.

With the factory gang planning to attend an awards ceremony which will honour their boss Carla Connor, they recruit Steve McDonald to transport them in a Streetcars mini-bus.

While the evening starts off well with everyone playing silly games in the bus, things take a sudden turn for the worse when a group of boy racers cause chaos by cutting Steve off on the road.

Steve is forced to swerve away and the mini-bus is left hanging perilously over the edge of a cliff.

The Rovers boss is the first to make it out of the vehicle, but suffers a panic attack and quickly abandons the scene. As our picture shows, Julie, Sean, Sally and Maddie also escape relatively unscathed - but will everyone else be so lucky?

I'm not quite sure why Steve has become depressed ????

Depression's an illness that anyone can get no matter their circumstances. It can be reactive to stressful events or can come from nowhere. From what Steve's said, Michelle and Liz's constant bullying has lowered his self-esteem which may have helped trigger it.

Coronation Street's mini-bus crash storyline reaches a dramatic conclusion tonight (January 21) as the vehicle plunges off the edge of a cliff.

Monday night's double bill saw Carla Connor's life hang in the balance, as she remained trapped in the vehicle while it came ever closer to hurtling down into the quarry below.

As the latest episode gets under way, Carla's future rests entirely in Tracy Barlow's hands as the ruthless character has to decide whether to rescue her or leave her to die.

Fans will have to wait and see exactly how Tracy reacts, but when the mini-bus goes crashing down, has Carla made it out in time?

Coronation Street's Michelle Connor faces an awkward predicament in tonight's episodes (January 23) as Hamish arrives at The Rovers for their latest date.

Michelle (Kym Marsh) is surprised to see Hamish (James Redmond) at the pub, as she has completely forgotten about their plans in the wake of the terrifying mini-bus crash.

With Michelle now focused solely on helping Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to get better, she knows there is no future for her relationship with Hamish.

Ready to make a go of things with Steve again, can Michelle let Hamish down gently?
