Emmerdale's series producer Kate Oates has given her first interview about the soap's 2015 storylines, promising high drama for a number of characters.

Katie and Andy Sugden, David and Alicia Metcalfe, Aaron Livesy and the White family will be among those taking centre stage as a new year arrives in the village.

Hit play below to see Oates tease the upcoming stories in a new video released by ITV:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s12/emmerdale/news/a618868/emmerdale-2015-storylines-revealed-by-show-producer-kate-oates.html#~p03wkuBIkIjr3P

The video sees Oates speak further about Katie's upcoming exit storyline, following Sammy Winward's decision to quit the show, hinting that Andy could possibly be the driving force behind her departure rather than scheming Robert.

The show's top boss also reveals that the big storyline ahead for David and Alicia will involve the White family.

Aaron's fling with Robert won't run smoothly in the New Year, while there are also twists and turns for the various Dingle family members as Charity's trial arrives and Laurel becomes increasingly reliant on alcohol.

Emmerdale continues with an hour-long episode on New Year's Day at 7.30pm on ITV.

Ross is my absolute, I just totally want him. Michael Parr is a gorgeous guy, fact

The script writers shove gay relationships in viewers faces to prove a point, it's all about getting everyone to embrace and accept. It's embarrassing for actors and it's embarrassing for viewers

Meanwhile, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) will stop at nothing to keep his trysts with lover Aaron (Danny Miller) and his involvement in the death of Katie Sugden under wraps. ITV soap boss John Whiston has teased Emmerdale's summer storylines, promising "massive unforeseen consequences" of secrets and lies in the village.

Fans can expect some dramatic scenes over the coming months, with Debbie Dingle at the centre of the action as she finds herself torn between her fiancé Pete Barton and his bad boy brother Ross in the build-up to her wedding.

Speaking at an Emmerdale press conference yesterday (May 15), Whiston - ITV's creative director for soaps - commented: "It's a summer of hot sex and desperate infidelity. Actions have consequences, and on Emmerdale this summer, actions have massive unforeseen consequences.

"Of course, the infidelity that everyone has been wanting to happen - but is secretly scared of - is that of Debbie Dingle. Although Debbie's head is Pete's, her heart and other parts of her body are longing for Ross.

"The Pete/Ross/Debbie triangle has been superbly well-played by Anthony Quinlan, Charley Webb and Michael Parr. There have been stolen scenes of illicit attraction between Debbie and Ross, scenes of deep and genuine love between Pete and Debbie, and scenes of pure brotherly hatred between Pete and Ross."

He continued: "The scenes between all three have had me on the edge of my seat in the cutting room and at home this last month. In fact, I found out that you can actually unplug your television at home and Emmerdale continues playing, powered by the electricity that these three brilliant actors generate when they're on screen together!

"Although I know exactly what's going to happen for the next six months, I've been watching this story unfold almost between my fingers, because I find the consequences of any actual infidelity too awful to contemplate.

"It's like a slow-motion train wreck but without any trains. Debbie is heading down the track towards her wedding to good boy Barton, all the while bad boy Barton is heading towards Debbie the other way on a collision course of passion."

Jai is touched when Megan tells him he has to make the most of his time with Archie, but stresses he needs to be honest with her.

Jai and Megan

Another infidelity storyline will see Jai Sharma betray his wife Megan by sleeping with Leyla Harding again. While Megan has forgiven Jai for cheating in the past, he may have pushed his luck too far this time.

Whiston said: "Greedy Jai is having his cake and eating it. But true to form, Jai is too clever for his own good and we'll see him caught up in a trap of his own making when a merciless Megan finds out about luscious loved-up Leyla."

Whiston also confirmed that Vanessa Woodfield's one-night stand with Adam Barton will be exposed before too long, leaving Kirin Kotecha shellshocked when he realises that he may not be the father of Vanessa's unborn child.

When Rakesh is filled in on the situation, he spies a chance to interfere by doctoring the DNA test results.

Whiston said: "Simmering away in Victoria Cottage is the secret of the true paternity of the child Vanessa is carrying after her night of passion with Adam. I have to say Rakesh is my kind of lawyer, using all means fair and foul to get a result!

"In this case, he's extricating his hot-headed 17-year-old son Kirin from the clutches of Vanessa the vet. How will Kirin react when he finds out that his dad has faked the DNA results of Vanessa's embryo?"

Offering a final cryptic teaser, he added: "Let's just check that we've got everything we need for the summer. Secrets, check. Jealousy, check. Love, check. Sex, check. Cans of petrol, check. Yep, we're all set for another summer of secrets and infidelity on Emmerdale!"

That is such a hot photo shoot I am interested in the gay storyline but I also find the ross, pete, debbie storyline very interesting too. I do not care about Jai or Layla or megan I find thsee three characters very boring. Also I find Jai repulsive and not attractive. Now if Layla and megan were fighting over Rakesh that would make a lot of sense he is a handsome man. I feel the show is wasting Rakesh with boring pryia.

Emmerdale released some exciting summer teasers on Saturday - but here's your chance to get a first look at the explosive drama ahead in the village.

A new trailer released by the ITV soap sees secrets revealed, relationships on the rocks and a shock accident which will leave a long-standing character in jeopardy.

Hit play below to watch the first look footage:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s12/emmerdale/news/a648044/emmerdale-see-new-shocks-for-the-village-in-dramatic-summer-trailer.html#~pd3DRix9rMK5Vj

The promo reveals that Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) will be run over by Victoria Sugden next month, shortly after the truth has been exposed about her boyfriend Adam's one-night stand with Vanessa Woodfield.

Pete Barton will resort to the drastic tactic of setting up his brother Ross for theft after becoming jealous of his connection to Debbie - but this backfires when it pushes his fiancée straight into his sibling's arms.

The new footage also confirms that Emma Atkins has filmed another brief return as Charity Dingle while on maternity leave, but why is Charity so keen to see Debbie?

Jai Sharma will also be back to his bad boy ways by terrorising Rachel Breckle and betraying his wife Megan Macey - just how far will he go to get what he wants?

Emmerdale boss Kate Oates has suggested that there could be some new arrivals on their way to the village.

The ITV soap is lining up hugely dramatic scenes next week, but Oates has confirmed that there will be strong stories in the aftermath too as the show heads into the autumn.

Speaking at an Emmerdale press event, Oates said: "We may have a couple of new arrivals for you, but I am very happy with the cast at the moment.

"I have said it before and I will say it again but I really, really think we have the best ensemble cast in soap. I really think we have a strong team and there isn't a person in the show who I wouldn't trust with a huge driving story. I am pretty content with the way things are at the moment but things will always grow with change."

Asked about possible returnees, she replied: "We may have something planned for autumn that might be a catalyst for a character group that is on screen at the moment. I don't want to say too much but there may be another return planned."

Oates was also asked whether she would ever allow a well-known singer to join the soap, following Coronation Street's decision to recruit X Factor star Shayne Ward and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding.

She said: "I think it could be a great success and I think there are examples where that has worked brilliantly. Look at Kym Marsh for example - she is one of the leading ladies at Corrie and we know how she started.

"I think it could be a brilliant success. It is all about who is right for the role and that might be someone whose background is in singing, it might be someone who has trained at drama school or it might be someone who has never trained a day in their life.

"You get some young performers who have never been to drama school and learn on the shop floor and that works brilliantly too. It all depends on who is right for the part. I wouldn't close my mind to anything."

Digital Spy reported on August 1st 2015 that, this autumn, Andy isn't too happy when finds out about how Robert was involved with Katie's death in February 2015.

>
Brace yourselves for another explosive Emmerdale moment this autumn as Andy Sugden discovers the truth about his wife Katie's tragic demise.

Andy's ruthless brother Robert pushed Katie to her death in an abandoned farm building in February, but so far Aaron Livesy and Paddy Kirk are the only villagers aware of his guilt.

Show bosses are now building up to another must-see moment as Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) finally learns how and why his wife died.

It's fair to say that Robert has received his fair share of beatings recently with Ross Barton and Cain Dingle to contend with, but could Andy dish out his most severe punishment yet?

Asked about Andy's future, Emmerdale's series producer Kate Oates teased: "Watch this space for autumn because what happened to Katie is still largely a secret. When Katie died in February, the point of doing something of that level was that it would have great repercussions as time goes on.

"Andy is still yet to find out what happened to his beautiful wife, so Kelvin is likely to be busy!"

Katie's on-screen death came after Sammy Winward decided to bow out from the role after 14 years. Oates added that she is delighted with how much storyline material has since been sparked by the long-standing character's exit.

She said: "I think it's given us a great deal. You could even argue that the upcoming helicopter crash episodes are a result of what happened to Katie, because Aaron has told Chrissie about his affair with Robert after finding out how Katie died.

"Chrissie's revenge against Robert leads to the crash, which then has direct repercussions over the rest of this year. So actually what happened on that February day when Katie died will have consequences into winter.

"It's not just what happened to Katie in that moment, it's about carrying that story forward and exploring the kind of man that makes Robert."

Emmerdale spoilers: 10 sneaky teasers for an exciting Autumn 2015 in the village

Duncan Lindsay for Metro.co.uk
Thursday 3 Sep 2015 7:59 pm

You could be forgiven for thinking that Emmerdale would start to get a bit quieter over the coming weeks after their high octane Summer Fate drama – but you’d also be wrong.

The show is gearing up for a busy Autumn full of lust, betrayal, revenge and scandal and you won’t want to miss a minute of the big drama ahead.

As the consequences of the helicopter crash continue to be felt for many villagers, the aftermath of an even less recent tragedy will come to the forefront as Andy’s suspicions leads to shock revelations.

While we aren’t going to spoil any of the juicy surprises coming your way, we can provide ten tanatalising reasons why you should stay tuned in to the most eventful village on television…(soz, Midsomer)

1. If you thought that Ross had truly moved on from his altercation with Pete that nearly left him dead, then think again. He most definitely has revenge in mind and we will soon see that take shape which could have life changing consequences for his whole family…

2. Despite warnings from loved ones, a former couple that caused themselves and those around them a lot of pain decide to reunite. But could there be further misery in store?

3. One local who has upset a lot of people could be about to pay the price for their actions in a surprise twist that will leave the village reeling.

4. Don’t expect Eric to be on the road to recovery any time soon. As he continues to struggle with losing Val, his behaviour is set to cause more concern than ever. Meanwhile, we will see an emotional exit for Alicia but how will her departure affect David as he tries to be there for his dad?

5. Andy is determined to find out what truly happened to his beloved Katie and, with Aaron’s number being on the phone bill, it can only be a matter of time before the pieces come together. And, when they do, prepare for the mother of all payoffs. This story has been building for over a year and the results are worth the wait…

6. As Vanessa goes into labour, Kirin is there for her and their spark is still clear. But, accepting that it’s over, Kirin begins to see Belle in a new light. As a relationship blossoms, where does his heart really lie? And is someone going to get hurt?

7. We saw Cain save Kyle’s life in the helicopter disaster and don’t expect their link to be forgotten. Can anyone persuade Cain to start to get to know his son?

8. Jimmy and Rodney end up in a really unexpected situation – and they end up tempted to break the law. That worked out well for Bob, Val and Carly didn’t it?

9. Speaking of Bob, are his feelings for Harriet purely platonic? Or might Ashley and Brenda have something to worry about?

10. Finally, Paddy has been searching for a new love for Marlon and his efforts could be about to bear fruit. Can Marlon finally move on from his broken marriage to Laurel?

The metro article is an additional source of new spoilers. There will never be just one source of information which tells all about the Emmerdale future. digitalspy.co.uk never provides every answer and spoiler. The future clues about Emmerdale's storyline direction come from combining several sources. This could be from twitter or facebook or Radio Times or BBC or newspapers, etc. The biggest clues come sometimes from the most unlikely of sources. For example, the fatal Emmerdale spoiler leak and biggest clue ever that Ross Barton wasn't dead and was going to return to Emmerdale came from Sunday World, an Irish magazine which reported, on August 16th 2015, an on-set interview with Charlie Webb (Debbie) during the previous week from the Harewood Estate filming location. The magazine details were something I posted here myself on soapboards.co.uk on August 17th 2015.

=====

Sunday World, August 16th 2015, published:
>
Charley had SIX wedding dresses made for the disaster scene, and did all the stunts herself.

"The bit where you saw everything collapse - that was us [the actors]. We did all that ourselves," she says proudly. "We were absolutely covered in dust for days. But there was never anywhere where we didn't feel safe. We never felt in jeopardy while filming. So, because of that, we had a lot of fun doing it.

"That was filmed about eight weeks ago and Debbie was in a coma. But as viewers would have seen a couple of nights ago, she's back - fighting fit," says Charley with a massive grin.

... etc

Michael and Anthony are busy boys on-set these days after the fall-out from the wedding revelations continue for Pete and Ross. "Two brothers, one woman...it's big", smiles Michael.

After Pete beat Ross up and shoved him over a cliff, his mother Emma becomes worried about his disappearance. Cain Dingle then becomes a suspect when it's learned he left Ross locked in a van on the side of a cliff, while Pete soon freaks out when the police find a body.

... etc

Sounds like Ross is alive and kicking after all. The Summer Fate scenes would have been filmed around June, so for Pete and Ross to be filming on-set last week shows the storyline carries on between them and that Ross survives somehow. I think he must have regained consciousness and walked out of the wood himself/more likely got rescued by a dog-walker or something, maybe suffered amnesia and spent some days/weeks in hospital. Why weren't the police informed about this incident, I wonder? Time will tell.

As for the metro.co.uk article from Thursday 3rd September 2015, there are lots of unanswered questions about future Emmerdale storylines. Here are a number of my own questions about the metro article which I have picked up on.

>First off, '2. Despite warnings from loved ones, a former couple that caused themselves and those around them a lot of pain decide to reunite. But could there be further misery in store?'

I think this may be about James and Emma. I suspect that Ross may do something (involving Pete?) which blows the Barton family apart.

>Second off, '3. One local who has upset a lot of people could be about to pay the price for their actions in a surprise twist that will leave the village reeling.'

Is this about Pete, and does he get killed or made to leave Emmerdale under threat of death?

>Third off, '5. Andy is determined to find out what truly happened to his beloved Katie and, with Aaron’s number being on the phone bill, it can only be a matter of time before the pieces come together. And, when they do, prepare for the mother of all payoffs. This story has been building for over a year and the results are worth the wait…'

Does Andy seriously injure Aaron (or kill him?) and/or do the same to Robert?

>Fourth off, '6. As Vanessa goes into labour, Kirin is there for her and their spark is still clear. But, accepting that it’s over, Kirin begins to see Belle in a new light. As a relationship blossoms, where does his heart really lie? And is someone going to get hurt?'

Does Vanessa's baby die, blowing open who the real father is (=Kirin, not Adam). Belle is far too young and innocent for Kirin, I reckon, so I really hope nothing progresses too far between them yet.

>Fifth off (and the BIG new one for me anyway), '9. Speaking of Bob, are his feelings for Harriet purely platonic? Or might Ashley and Brenda have something to worry about?'

Bob and Harriet together as new best friends with benefits? Just nobody seems to have seen or thought this could happen before. What could be the impact on Brenda and Ashley on this? Time will tell.

Im possibly wrong but I thought " spoilers" were

I looked this up and found that many dictionaries have a definition for the term 'spoiler' relating to the context of the use of by this soapboards' forum.

One example is Oxforddictionaries.com which defines 'spoiler' as:

'A description of an important plot development in a television show, film, or book which if previously known may reduce surprise or suspense for a first-time viewer or reader.'

Source:
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/spoiler

(What follows are my thoughts and opinions.)

So, a spoiler does just that, it spoils the story for the viewer as there is then no alternative storyline for the film/programme/book to follow and the viewer is not able to use guesswork and imagination throughout the viewing experience to think about possible outcomes for the ending.

A good example is for the film 'The Sixth Sense'. Someone who sees this for the first time, and who doesn't know the ending beforehand, will have a very different viewing experience throughout the film and during the climax at the end than someone who has been told the ending spoiler before the film starts.

Official sources (like TV programmes Press Office, professional media outlets, reputable newspapers and magazines) are one type of source of spoilers which are likely to be true, but beware of incomplete and ambiguous statements.

TV journalists very often include quoted speech from actor interviews and these are another source of spoilers which are likely to be true, especially if the actor is someone reputable and quoting something which they have done or seen already in the past.

Sometimes a journalist will include his/her own comment which sounds more like fact rather than opinion and will give away a spoiler like this and which is more likely to be true than not. For example, whether it was intended to or not, the chatty journalist comment 'Michael and Anthony are busy boys on-set these days after the fall-out from the wedding revelations continue for Pete and Ross' published in Sunday World on 16-08-15, blew the secrecy for the storyline that Ross was not dead in the woods but would be returning alive to Emmerdale in due course.

Sometimes a journalist will suggest what sounds like a spoiler but is instead an unanswered question. 'Speaking of Bob, are his feelings for Harriet purely platonic?' (metro.co.uk, 03-09-15). Suggestions like this may or may not have a possible future and need further information and reader experience to decide upon, otherwise they remain unanswered, ambiguous and a source of unsubstantiated gossip.**

Personal opinions (such as from members of the public, twitter, facebook, message boards) can be good or poor sources of spoilers. Good ones are those based on fact and experience and which have had some thought given to using them to predict the storyline. Poor ones are often those based on random guesses and personal desires, such as whether a character is liked/disliked. The personal opinion might also come across as being not definite or even be ambiguous. Spoilers from personal opinions can be useful or misleading and need further information and reader experience to decide upon.

Fake spoilers are made up and usually come from lack of knowledge or from some motive intended to deliberately deceive. Often, fake spoilers are so incredible and unlikely to happen that they are quickly noticed by some regular fans as being out of character for the programme/film/book. Anything ambiguous or inconsistent is a bad sign. It is much easier in life to tell the truth than to remember a lie, so liars and fakers usually get found out after a while as they grow careless and over-confident and give out far too much information which then doesn't match previous claims or the genuine claims from reliable sources. Mike Parr is a classic recent example of this, as a simple over-confident ambiguous one-line twitter comment blew him apart when analysed by myself. BTW, Mike Parr re-appeared as Ross on Emmerdale on Tuesday 25-08-15. Mike Parr really blew his secret storyline when he talked to an Irish journalist during the week before Sunday August 16th 2015, when she later betrayed Emmerdale completely by publishing the written words 'Michael and Anthony are busy boys on-set these days after the fall-out from the wedding revelations continue for Pete and Ross'. This could really be the worst storyline leak in Emmerdale's history.

The alarm bells were ringing very loudly for me by August 20th when Mike Parr's Twitter comments just didn't add up and he was clearly (to me anyway) being ambiguous, even totally deceitful:

In all seriousness though, what I'd really like to read is something very definite about Ross on Emmerdale from Mike Parr, with no ambiguity at all.

For example, Twitter post "Very proud to have worked with Kate Oates."

Here are two possible instances for what this could really mean, if a definite unambiguous statement was made.

1)
Very proud to have worked with Kate Oates. I had a great time on Emmerdale from 2013-2015 but my Ross character was killed off, I am no longer one of the Emmerdale cast and I now have a full-time job in London which involves rehearsals until the show begins later this year. I am also playing the role of 'G' in the next instalments of the film 'Dark Ascension'.

or,

2)
Very proud to have worked with Kate Oates. I hope that I can give much more to Emmerdale, the future looks really exciting for Ross and the latest script is terrific. Anthony is such a great guy to work alongside and the rest of the Emmerdale cast are a great laugh and we have great banter between us, especially between me, Kelvin, Danny and Adam.

I suppose that time will tell what happens next.

My view on this is that Bob and Harriet have been growing closer together lately. Rescue stories often make emotional bonds happen between two people, and the prison/court storyline for Bob and Harriet is a good example of this. Add in that Brenda did shop Bob to the police, and that Ashley is difficult to manage at times, so it could be that a Bob/Harriet relationship might develop.

The Sun's TVbiz extra magazine published some Emmerdale Christmas spoilers on 22/09/15:
>
The Dingles are destined for a traumatic Christmas, with heartbreak on the cards for Zak and Lisa.

It's not all doom and gloom, though, as barmy Bernice throws a glitzy New Year's Eve bash at Home Farm and, in typical Dales fashion, it promises to be a night to remember.
>

I suppose there may be some amount of teasing included in these but maybe the suggestions are that:

1) Belle may find herself pregnant due to her relationship with Kirin (the signs are that Kirin and Belle first sleep together on September 29th?).

2) Bernice is still dating Lawrence by New Year's Eve. Maybe they get engaged then? Plus, it suggests that Lawrence is still at Home Farm by then and isn't involved with Robert's shooting or that he is still being investigated/on bail for it.

zak and joanie affair

I really hope this doesn't happen. I can't find any spoiler evidence right now of a probable Zak-Joanie relationship. If anything, Zak seems so happy with Lisa, and Zak-Lisa really seems like a stable relationship to me for now. The characters to watch for the big storylines soon seem (to me for now) to be the 'young guns' who come in quick, have big storylines, and then burn out as quickly as they came (e.g. young Lachlan?). But this is Emmerdale and soapland, of course, and relationships there are just like musical chairs. So maybe long-term Emmerdale character Zak really does (finally) be disloyal to Lisa, I really don't think this will happen at this present time, however, and see Zak as a long-term Emmerdale character. For me, Joanie seems to be just an Emmerdale extra right now and is soon disposable, just like Lachlan seems to be.

Zack has already been unfaithful to Lisa- when
he had cancer -with the wife of one of his "friends"!

Theres been nothing explicit said about Zack
&Joanie-just linking of names and some
interaction.
Thats usually enough in Soaps. It usually
done just to.stir things up and give characters
a storyline.
Its one of the old faithfuls like unplanned
pregnancies and paternity disputes!

Not necessarily a deep and meaningful
relationship and often between ill-matched
people. Which is why viewers can get exasperated.!!
So if it happened wouldnt be long lasting necessarily!

The actor playing Zack.has had some longish
breaks( at his own request) in the past-
perhaps requested another?

ITV today released a video interview in which Kate Oates talked about upcoming Emmerdale storylines for this Autumn/Winter.

The character pairs of Chas/Aaron, Pete/Ross and Andy/Robert are all included in major storylines which involve their relationships, pasts and futures.

And, yes, Robert and Pete do survive their latest injuries!

I can't see Belle ending up pregnant as Kirin already has a baby. I think it'll be a case of Kirin drops Belle like a stone when he discovers that Johnny is his, leading her to have a meltdown and regress.

I too think that Kirin will cool from Belle when (no if on that, I reckon!) he knows Johnny is his baby. I think this father-the-baby storyline might be one of the two big extra reveals around the end of October that Kate Oates talked about today. Zak and Lisa have family problems around December, I suppose these could involve Belle being another young single mum-to-be (child adoption storyline later?), but maybe not?

The other big extra reveal I think might be Paddy and Tess becoming known to be a full-on item or at least to strain Rhona's relationship with Paddy.

Other relationship changes could happen for Rhona, Bob, Brenda, Harriet and Ashley?

I agree- when they posted some longer term
spoilers a few weeks ago-one was Heartbreak
for Zac & Lisa around Christmas.
Some posters thought it might mean an
affair for Zac(.with.Joanie) but I did think
(and posted) that Kirin would not be as
keen on Belle as she on him.and this might
lead to a recurrence of her mental illness.

If the parenthood of Johnny is revealed it
will make him less concerned about Belle
and him to seem more unattainable to Belle.
So could precipitate matters! as.you suggest-
but in a more dramatic way.

I can't see that they have "finished"
with Belles illness -its not realistic and
they did get plaudits for the story!

I hope Belle doesnt get"messages" to harm
the baby!!

Can't see another adoption storyline involving the Dingles. Debbie was adopted, as was Kyle.

Difficult to gauge whether this means two new secrets or just the discovery that Kirin is Johnny's father and that Megan has been concealing a pregnancy from the majority of people. As Oates has set these things up, presumably she'll want them to be exposed before she moves over to Coronation Street. Although that doesn't particularly narrow things down. As Oates doesn't start at Corrie until January, presumably she's still producing Emmerdale until the Christmas break - so her stuff will still be showing for at least a few months into the New Year.

Emmerdale boss Kate Oates on quick Who Shot Robert reveal: 'I like fast-paced stories'

By Daniel Kilkelly
Wednesday, Sep 30 2015, 22:48 BST

Emmerdale's producer Kate Oates has explained her decision to deliver a speedy resolution to the 'Who Shot Robert Sugden?' storyline.

Robert was gunned down by a mystery assailant at the end of last week, but the ITV soap has already filmed a special 'rewind' episode which will reveal who the culprit is.

The hour-long special will air at the end of October to celebrate Emmerdale's 43rd birthday, filling in the gaps from last Friday's explosive double bill.

Speaking at an Emmerdale press event on Wednesday (September 30), Oates commented: "By the time the episode airs, it will be about three or four weeks since Robert was shot. EastEnders have just done it very well with 'Who Killed Lucy?' and that was obviously stretched over several months.

"You can pick a timeframe I guess, and I like stories that go along with quite a pace. I felt with a storyline like this, where you've got five or six potential suspects, it's nice to pick them all off at a bit of a lick and keep the audience engaged over that period of time. It's just a judgement call and that's the way we chose to do it."

As well as the Robert plot, Emmerdale chiefs are promising to reveal two other shocking secrets in the flashback which will rock the village forever.

Oates continued: "Obviously I know that other shows have done flashback episodes before, so in that sense it's not new. But what's unique about this episode is that we do weave it around other stories, which we will carry forward.

"That's what we really wanted to do. We were aware that we had our work cut out telling the story in a 'rewind' way, because other shows have done it before and done it so well. To make ours different, we wanted to impart other story strands which would then go on much further.

"I'm really pleased with the response to the whodunit. We've been really lucky because this storyline really started last autumn with Robert and Aaron getting together. Then there was a huge moment with Katie's death in February, rolling onto the big summer episodes with the helicopter and then knocking onto this in the winter.

"I'm glad that we've been able to build those stories and everything's had a cause and effect. They're the best stories and they will continue into the winter. Hopefully the reaction will just grow and grow."

I think this father-the-baby storyline might be one of the two big extra reveals around the end of October that Kate Oates talked about today.

I actually took the flashback extra reveals to mean the revealing of new storylines stemming from the same night as the shooting. If the father-of-the-baby reveal happened that night you'd already be seeing the fallout of that. I'm guessing the Paddy secrecy will be one of those reveals, at the very least, as well as revealing who the shooter is. Whatever the other revelation is had to be tied in with whatever else happened that night, and may have something to do with why there are shady looks between certain characters that up til now seemed to be just about the shooting and "who dunnit". And with Kate saying they lead into the winter viewing also makes it seem like new(ish) storyline threads.

Here is the recap for the night of the shooting - could there possibly be clues within? Such as...what was Andy's call really about - the shooting, or something else?
-----------------------
Airs Friday, Sep 25 2015 at 19:00 BST on ITV

Andy flies at Robert as he is sickened by his manipulation. Aaron breaks the fight up, but Andy is shocked further when Chas guiltily covers for Aaron and Robert - lying that Katie was going to leave him. Andy runs out when Diane and Victoria start to be hoodwinked by Robert's lies. Chas privately tells Robert to drop dead when he thanks her.

Robert's troubles continue when Lawrence confronts him, explaining that he had an interesting chat with Chrissie. Steeling himself for a fight, Robert explains about the break-in and gloats that he set up the rent boy. Lawrence is infuriated.

Later that day, Chas warns Robert to leave the village tonight if he values his life. However, Robert doesn't take notice of Chas's warning. As he takes a step back, there's a sudden sound of a gunshot. Blood appears on Robert's chest. His eyes meet Chas's in utter shock as he collapses...

Meanwhile, Diane receives a call from Andy who apologises, but adds that if she'd heard what Robert did to Katie she'd do the same thing. He hangs up, leaving Diane and Victoria extremely worried.

Elsewhere, Debbie tells a disappointed Ross that she can't give him what he wants. Pete watches triumphantly as his brother feels the pain of rejection. Ross is fuming that Pete saw Debbie rejecting him and Pete tries to cover a twinge of worry as a murderous Ross explains that Debbie was the only thing stopping him from using the gun. Pete regrets rubbing Ross's nose in it when he gets a text to meet him at the farm. Moira is floored when he says that Ross will be waiting with a gun. She tells Pete they'll meet him together.

Also, Harriet is worried when Ashley doesn't show for her party.

Finally, Marlon gets on well with Chloe at the singles night, but Paddy is worried about Aaron and makes his excuses to leave.
--------------------------------------

Of course, I could be completely wrong, as I'm only guessing based on the spoilers and comments given on this forum, as well as the memes on the Emmerdale FB page (character facial expressions/reactions etc), and photos on Digital Spy etc, since here in NZ we are several weeks behind and falling further behind thanks to TVNZ cutting our viewing time of Emmerdale in half since the beginning of September (don't get me started on that!)

Yes, I also think that the rewind episode will fill in the gaps about what everyone was doing around the time that Robert was shot. This will also reveal any new character behaviour patterns and new storylines for the near future. Kate Oates said in a recent interview reported by Digital Spy that the episode was going to break from the usual story-telling method and instead to involve a non-linear theme, this suggests to me that we may see a sequence of scenes from different character viewpoints.

Emmerdale's producer Kate Oates explained: "This won't be the first time Emmerdale has broken its 'house style' of storytelling; but it will be the first time we've told a story in a non-linear way.

"What makes this 'rewind' episode special is that we won't just learn who shot Robert, but two other big secrets that will propel the show into an exciting, emotional and dramatic winter."

The special flashback episode is due to air at the end of October to tie in with the show's 43rd anniversary.

The reveal is meant to be the first-time ever method for a soap.

I was thinking of a sort-of series of scenes shown one after the other, with each scene showing the activities experienced by a different group of people. There was a 4-part series on ITV shown during 2012 about the sinking of the Titanic. Each part showed the lives and ends of a group of people as they experienced the sinking of the ship. For Emmerdale, maybe there could be something like one scene from people in the pub, one scene from people in the cafe, one scene from Chas, one scene from Aaron, one scene from Andy, one scene from Ross, a final one from Robert.

I think EastEnders might have done something like this in the Lucy storyline (I'm not knowledgeable on this though as I'm not an EastEnders viewer, so maybe this scene-series idea has been done before on a soap and the Emmerdale reveal is something else?).

Whatever the reveal is, it may come sooner than we think. Danny Miller suggested a short timescale. So 2-3 weeks?

As for any future storylines, it really seems as if maybe Paddy did leave the Robblesfield/Hotton pub with Tess and got canoodling/up to something between themselves and to last long-term from that night.

The Kate Oates ITV interview suggests that storylines for Autumn/Winter 2015 include those for Pete/Ross and Andy/Robert ("brothers-at-war" with more fights and stuff), also one for Ashley/Laurel (does Ashley/Sandy have major storylines about Altzeimer's/dementia/memory loss or does Laurel's alcoholism resurface?), and how loud-mouth gossip-queen Kerry continues to work with Bernice and makes bad enemies with the Dingle family somehow (is this the adverse Zak/Lisa storyline around Christmas which has already been mentioned in earlier long-term spoilers?). These may be relatively minor storylines, however, as part of ongoing usual Emmerdale life. Although no mention was made of a baby-reveal for Adam and Johnny, I reckon this is one of the two big extra storylines which Kate Oates was talking about. I also think that the second big extra storyline involves a relationship between Paddy and Tess.

Kate Oates said in a recent Digital Spy interview that she's in Emmerdale until Christmas, and that she likes fast storylines. Seems to me that there is now going to be a rush to complete anything Kate has set-up during her 3-year contract with Emmerdale.

"I'm here until Christmas and my storylines will be playing out into the New Year," she said. "This is my focus. I love it dearly and the people who work on it are my friends. We have all made this show together and we all invest all we can into it, so I'm not even thinking about my next move until after the New Year."

Kate Oates also recently said about fast-paced storylines:

"You can pick a timeframe I guess, and I like stories that go along with quite a pace. I felt with a storyline like this, where you've got five or six potential suspects, it's nice to pick them all off at a bit of a lick and keep the audience engaged over that period of time. It's just a judgement call and that's the way we chose to do it."

Paddy and Ashley both missing being filled in

I think Paddy being missing on the night of Robert's shooting may be explained by him being with Tess? Of course, Paddy wouldn't want this to be flagged up in police enquiries as then his relationship with Rhona would be jeopardised. The signs from spoilers/interviews, though, are that a Tess/Paddy ("Taddy"?) relationship does happen in due course.

Ashley missing on the night of Robert's shooting represents more of a problem. Did he have an epileptic seizure somewhere and was unconscious for hours? Or was this an Altzeimer's/Parkinson's memory-related lapse for a while? Maybe he was with Laurel to make some tribute arrangements following their previous big 2008 storyline for cot-death son, Daniel (died 21/02/2008)? Time will tell.

If Paddy cheated with Tess the night of the shooting it was quick as he was walking back to Emmerdale when Marlon in his taxi meet him

As Paddy has been mentioned - how did he break his glasses on the night of the shooting? I doubt he could be the shooter particularly if he had no glasses. I think Tess probably had a car and gave him a lift and something occurred and she turfed him out and maybe that's when he broke his glasses.

As Paddy has been mentioned - how did he break his glasses on the night of the shooting? I doubt he could be the shooter particularly if he had no glasses. I think Tess probably had a car and gave him a lift and something occurred and she turfed him out and maybe that's when he broke his glasses.

Marlon was returning to Emmerdale in a taxi on Friday evening September 25th when he passed by Paddy and stopped the taxi, about 2 minutes walk away from the village according to Paddy at the time. Paddy said he'd had a taxi but not enough money for the journey so had to walk from Robblesfield (3 miles, say an hour to walk) so this implies that Marlon spent say an hour extra in the bar with Chloe. Paddy and Tess left the bar at the same time soon after arriving and meeting each other (although they pretended not to like each though and were leaving separately).

If Paddy did leave to go off with Tess (and I think they did as we know from spoilers that Paddy and Tess do have a big storyline coming up very soon), I suppose she could have taken him to her car/house for canoodling etc and then back to Emmerdale eventually to drop him off say 5 minutes walk away in the lane so as not to let any other villagers know about them being together. This means that however long Marlon's extra time was in the bar with Chloe after Paddy left (say one hour) would be how much time Paddy and Tess had alone together.

And yes, somehow Paddy broke his glasses but we don't know how and when yet. My guess is that it happened when things got 'hot and heavy' between him and Tess in her car/at her place and what caused the glasses to break should be explained in 'rewind' episode. When Marlon later stopped the taxi to talk to Paddy (2 minutes walk from the village), a police car with flashing blue lights also passed by, so Robert had already been shot by then. This does show that Paddy was in the area of the village when Robert was shot though.

Of course, if Paddy had got back to the village in time to shoot Robert himself as his intended target, his glasses could have been broken after this. After shooting Robert he would have been able to walk from the Woolpack rear car park, follow the field fence for some distance and then rejoin the road from Robblesfield to then walk towards his house next to the bus shelter.

Also, if Paddy was Robert's shooter and not had his glasses, then he might not have been able to see too clearly in focus and able to be certain of firing properly towards Robert. This does mean that he could have been aiming at Chas but hit Robert instead. I don't know yet of a motive for Paddy to shoot at Chas though.

We also know that Paddy has a big storyline coming up with Tess, so this means that Paddy won't be Robert's shooter (assuming the police solve the crime in the 'rewind' episode). In the same way, we don't know where Ross or Cain were when Robert was shot, but because these have Christmas-time storylines too it won't be Ross or Cain as Robert's shooter either.

Emmerdale spoilers: Returns, shock exits and secrets revealed in huge winter storylines

Duncan Lindsay for Metro.co.uk
Tuesday 6 Oct 2015 4:46 pm

Emmerdale have had a huge year with the dramatic helicopter crash, the sizzling affair of Robert and Aaron and the killr feud between Ross and Pete Barton.

And they were amply rewarded for pulling out all of the stops when Inside Soap readers voted them to victory in 8 of the categories, including best soap. With Kate Oates departing Emmerdale to head for the cobbles of Corrie, she has been quick to reassure everyone that her focus remains purely on the village soap right now.

And the imminent storylines prove she is true to her word – if you were expecting Emmerdale to quieten down over winter, then think again. Here’s what is coming up.

The return of Charity

Charity is heading back – and let’s not forget what she said to Cain before she was sent down for a stretch inside. Cain and Moira are both fully aware that Charity will want her claws into her man – and they are ready for it so viewers can expect some fireworks.

Another person who will be affected by Charity’s comeback is Ross, who is now starting to bond with baby Moses. But how will they react to each other when they come face to face? And if Cain is off the table, who else could Charity set her eyes on?

Robert’s redemption

There is a long road ahead for Robert following his shooting – and the drama is far from over. Viewers will discover who pulled the trigger in a special flashback episode in October but the aftermath will continue to affect a large group of residents.

And the question remains – what kind of Robert will we find waking up from his coma? Will he be a changed man and could there ever be a way for him to repair his relationships with Andy and Aaron? Kate Oates certainly hasn’t ruled out a redemption for the character.

She told Inside Soap: ‘I absolutely think there is [a way back for Robert and Aaron]. It just has to be earned because Aaron is a very moral character. But with the right story, there’s always a way back.’

Let’s just say there could be signs in upcoming scenes that the two boys care for each other still…

Things get dark for Chas and Aaron

Chastity and Aaron are tipped for a dark story that will take them into new territory towards the end of the year and beyond. We are about to see someone cause misery for Chas in a campaign of stalking – but is Emma the one who is responsible? And what could be in store for Aaron and Chas? It promises to have potentially life-changing consequences for both characters…

Nikhil is back – so look out Jai

Nikhil left screens in 2013 for a new life in Canada with daughter Molly following the tragic death of his wife Gennie, but will be drawn back to the Yorkshire Dales as part of an "exciting storyline". Jai is fast going off the rails so it will be a welcome face for the Sharmas when Nikhil reappears. More confident than before, Nikhil will be a force to be reckoned with for Jai. Viewers will also see him rekindle his much adored bromance with David which will help David overcome losing Alicia.

And how will Brenda feel to be reunited with her granddaughter Molly – and memories of her late daughter Gennie?

A turning point for Eric

While it seems there is no way back for troubled Eric Pollard right now, a heartwarming Christmas Carol-esque story will see a turning point for the grieving local this winter. Visited by elements of the past, present and future, Eric is forced to finally confront his demons and make a breakthrough that should put him on the road to recovery.

Debbie’s dramatic exit

Debbie will find herself repeatedly pulled back to Ross – but this decision looks set to have unpleasant circumstances that will drive her out of the village. With Charley Webb going on maternity leave, viewers can expect to see Debbie leave under a dark cloud as her friends and family react badly to her addiction to Ross.

But when she goes, will Ross follow?

Rakesh’s betrayal exposed

The secret of baby Johnny’s paternity has been plaguing viewers for months – just when will Kirin and Adam find out the truth about what Rakesh did? There isn’t long to wait, with the reveal tipped to be executed in a clever way.

As all parties are left reeling by the devastating revelations, Rakesh will end up desperately regretting his actions. And how will Adam cope to learn that his son isn’t actually his after all? And will the realisation that they have a child together pull Kirin and Vanessa back together?

Bernice and Lawrence – will they wed?

Viewers have been enjoying this unexpected coupling that somehow just works really well. And with Lawrence having popped the question, there could be wedding bells on the horizon. But there are destined to be a fair few stumbling blocks that could prevent that day ever happening – can the couple overcome them and be together? Or are they destined for heartbreak?

Plus!

David could well find romance in his post-Alicia days – but he might miss some signals from Dales ladies that are staring him right in the face!

Chrissie is another character tipped for romance. We have already seen sparks fly between her and Rakesh – could it lead to a full blown affair? Or will Chrissie find her bed warmed by someone different entirely.

The Dingles could be set for serious heartbreak this Christmas which is set to have heartbreaking consequences for Zak and Lisa…

Paddy has a secret he wants to keep hidden from Rhona – he has been acting very strangely of late. But is it connected to Robert’s shooting or could it be something else completely?

Ashley and Harriet are also expected to face a new challenge which could put their relationship under strain. Please don’t say those are sparks we see between Harriet and Bob…

With just a few weeks to go before we watch the much anticipated Yuletide plots unfold, we have drawn together 12 of the sneakiest hints to give you just a tiny flavour of what to expect.

While Metro.co.uk should be your first stop in coming weeks for more detailed previews on the Christmas plots in soapland, there’s nothing wrong with getting the baubles rolling early and dropping the first teasers.

While there are no specific spoilers, viewers who want complete and 100% surprises may wish to avoid anyway.

The rest of us meanwhile can salivate more than we do at the anticipation of a four bird roast and an excessive helping of Christmas pud.

Some Christmas 2015 spoilers

My best guesses so far.

1- Maybe Emma Barton may get Charity to make Emma the legal guardian of Moses so there is much more extra tension later between the Bartons and Dingles, so much so that Charity gets between Cain and Moira maybe and bags Cain for herself? In the meantime, Aaron and Ross get found out by whoever they try to rob/Debbie/the whole village? Debbie's had enough by then of her reckless bad-choice boyfriend Ross and so Debbie dramatically leaves Emmerdale with Sarah and Jack (until things cool off after 8 months) and everyone keeps hating Ross (as usual. OK, so we all get it now, Ross is a pantomime villain. Look out! "He's behind you!). Cain, of course, isn't pleased that his "best girl" has left him like this and so Big Troublemaker Ross gets the Cain attention and so Ross gets another IS Big Emmerdale E Award in 2016 ("Best Soap Ejit"? "Best Soap E**t")?

2 - Is the "canine" Tootsie? And do Eric and Edna become an item over a dodgy doggy story?

3 - Zak and Joanie get noticed on Christmas Day but do they get away with it (for now anyway)?

4 - Maybe fussy Vanessa notices that Johnny either has or is missing a special feature (birthmark?) which only Kirin or Adam has?
(Plenty of ideas come to my imagination for this but some are too rude to post here...)

5a - Sounds juicy but could involve anyone confessing anything. Maybe Ashley tells Laurel about his dementia and they get together again? (Spoiler alert! Laurel looks after Ashley up to at least his last few days. Source = SoapSquawk, 28/11/15)
5b = Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth on Coronation Street) as Mrs Winterbottom in the B+B in Emmerdale on Christmas Day.
5c - Dan? Kerry blames him for a lot, not that he deserves it all.

Emmerdale's emotional Christmas: Drama for Debbie Dingle, a Pollard reunion and Liz Dawn's surprise cameo

Rebecca Merriman, Daily Mirror
2 Dec 2015

It's going to be an explosive Christmas for the residents of Emmerdale this year, with producers promising a dramatic festive season.

It wouldn't be Christmas without some action in the dales and according to producer Kate Oates, things will be stepping up a gear in the village over the holiday period, culminating in an hour-long special on Christmas Day.

Teasing viewers about what they've got planned, she told the Radio Times: “It’s going to be a very emotional Christmas. There won’t be whistles and bangs. It will all be very heartfelt.

“I think that’s right for us because we’ve had such a stunt-led summer and it’s good to bring it down to grassroots.”

But what exactly is in store for the Emmerdale cast this year?

Liz Dawn's cameo

This Christmas will see Coronation Street legend Liz Dawn come out of retirement to provide some light relief.

Liz will take on the role of Mrs Winterbottom, a very demanding guest who'll be staying at Eric Pollard's B&B on Christmas Day.

Admitting it was a one off, the former Vera Duckworth told the Radio Times in October about her decision to appear in the soap: "There's only one show I'd come out of retirement for and it's Emmerdale, particularly as I've celebrated my 76th birthday this week so I wanted to mark the occasion.

"I love my character. What a feisty lady she is! Giving them all a run for their money in the B&B on Christmas Day. She's so rude to them which isn't like me at all."

Pollard Christmas reunion

Actor Matthew Wolfenden has hinted that there could be a Christmas truce between David Pollard and father Eric over the holidays.

The pair are currently at odds thanks to Eric's behaviour following the death of his wife Val, but the holidays could signal a reconciliation.

"David has tried everything to help his dad. So I hope that things can turn around and that Pollard comes out of this downward spiral and takes David, Finn, Tracy, Diane and all his loved ones back into his life," he told the Radio Times.

"Hopefully, the Christmas episode is going to be good for that group go people. It should be good."

Debbie leaving the dales?

With Charley Webb heading off on maternity leave soon, Debbie will be making a brief exit from the show - so could this be over the festive period and will it involve her mum?

Following Charity Tate's confession that Ross Barton is in fact the father of baby Moses, expect her return to the village to be accompanied by fireworks. As he attempts to work on his relationship with girlfriend Debbie - the reappearance of her mother and his secret lover is only going to be bad news.

Chas' diagnosis

It'll be a difficult Christmas for Chas and son Aaron, as the feisty female continues to struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Woolpack landlady - who currently fears she's being stalked and persecuted - will be told by doctors that she's suffering from PTSD in the weeks leading up to the Christmas special.

The storyline, which includes her stabbing Diane Sudgen, has seen the soap work in conjunction with mental health charity Mind and is set to carry on into the new year.

Speaking to the Radio Times, actress Lucy Pargeter admitted the diagnosis will come as a relief to the publican.

“It’s a big relief for Chas to finally have a diagnosis and a reason why everything has been happening,” she told the Radio Tomes. “Now she can receive help and hopefully get better.”

Ashley's harrowing exit

Ashley's health continues to deteriorate over the Christmas period as he deals with dementia.

Actor John Middleton, who made his debut as the village vicar in 1996, confirmed the storyline will see him leave the show back in October. In recent weeks

"I've known about it for a year. I had a meeting with [producer] Kate Oates and she asked me if I was happy to do the storyline," he said at the time.

"Kate suggested that I might like time to think about it, but I recognised it as the best story I've been given in my life and fully embraced it."

Emmerdale's hour long Christmas special will be shown at 18:45 on ITV on December 25.

He's signed on to do next year and I believe the end of 2016 will be his exit. I know he'll last to the latter of next year.
