View Full Version : Dylan
Hollyoaks bosses have announced that TV newcomer James Fletcher is joining the soap in the role of Trevor's son Dylan.
The show's executive producer Brian Kirkwood first mentioned Dylan's imminent arrival when he spoke to Digital Spy recently, but Fletcher's casting in the role has now been announced.

Dylan is supposedly the long-lost son of Trevor, but as he is harbouring many secrets, there will be a question mark over his true identity.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Fletcher said: "Dylan has come to Hollyoaks to find something that's been missing from his life.
"He hopes he'll find what he's looking for, but it could be a struggle to get what he wants if people keep standing in his way.
"Deep down Dylan is a good kid who just wants to find his place in the world, but if you cross him he'll make you pay for it. He has secrets but if I told you, they wouldn't be secrets anymore, would they?"
Hollyoaks will air Dylan's first scenes in January.

Dylan Jenkins will be targeted by bullies on Harry Thompson's football team.
Upcoming episodes will see Dylan (James Fletcher) become the target of cruel taunts from two footballers as Harry and Zack become hopeful that they could be picked for the county team.
When Harry decides to defend Dylan against the bullies - brothers Kyle and Aiden - it looks as if he has ruined the chances of making the team.
Not wanting to miss out, Harry tries to redeem himself by going to extreme lengths to impress Kyle and Aiden, while Nico and Dylan decide to plot revenge on the thugs.
However, Nico and Dylan's plan soon backfires when Aiden and Kyle catch Dylan pouring pasta sauce into their kit bags and they pour it over him instead.
Distraught and humiliated, Dylan decides to comfort himself by trying on Grace's clothes whilst alone.
Hollyoaks teen Dylan Jenkins takes centre stage in a big storyline over the coming weeks as he starts to experiment with cross-dressing.
Viewers have already seen Dylan try on Peri Lomax's bridesmaid dress as a joke, which has left him curious about wearing female garments.
Digital Spy recently chatted to James Fletcher, who plays Dylan, to hear his thoughts on the storyline and his time at Hollyoaks so far.

How do you feel about taking on this storyline?
"Wonderful - it's a blessing to have such a meaningful topic to tackle. I think it's something that is very misunderstood. Even from the first few leaks that have been put online about Dylan's storyline, people have instantly been going, 'Oh he's transgender, he's this, he's that'.
"In fact it's literally just that Dylan is finding comfort in women's garments. There's a large lack of understanding from most people, so I think it's a good thing to educate people about."
Did you always know this story was coming up when you joined Hollyoaks?
"I didn't know when I auditioned for the part, but in my first week of being here, it was something that the show's executive producer Bryan Kirkwood approached me about. He asked if I'd feel comfortable taking it on, and I said definitely as it sounded like a fun storyline to play."
How did you prepare for the story?
"I had meetings with the writers and I've also got some friends who don't cross-dress as a way of life, but they may do it when they're going out on the town just to turn heads and to get some attention, so I spoke to them too.
"I think in Dylan's case, it's more to do with a lack of a mother figure in his life at the moment. He's missing the comfort that he would have had from his mum, because he's been away from her for quite some time now."
How does the story develop?
"When Dylan tried on Peri's bridesmaid dress recently, it was something that he was just doing for a laugh with Nico. When he was wearing the dress, he felt very comfortable in it and felt that he was able to express himself.
"Peri later puts the video online, which leads to it going viral and getting lots of attention. Dylan thinks that's quite cool and he thinks maybe it's something he could do again, but then Trevor sees the video and blows up at him.
"Dylan is distraught over Trevor's reaction, but then he finds solace in going back to the women's clothing. This time he tries on some of Grace's clothes and lipstick, which is what you see in the spring trailer."

Do you hope the story can make a positive impact?
"Definitely. I hope people will just be less judgemental about what people are wearing. Dylan always felt strongly about dressing how you want to, not how everyone thinks you should, so this is an extension of that facet in him in some ways.
"I don't think we should necessarily put pressure on people to be a certain way. Even in today's world when we see kids growing up, when talking to a little girl people might say, 'Oh, one day you'll find yourself a nice husband'. You shouldn't say that in this day and age, it's just wrong - just find yourself a nice person."
Can Trevor and Dylan work this out?
"From what I've seen so far, Trevor is just completely appalled by the whole thing. Dylan can't believe that Trevor lets Grace get away with so much but is pulling him up so hard on this. It almost gets to the point where Trevor wants to disown him, and it's heartbreaking for Dylan because he just wants to be himself.
"Of course Dylan wants love from his dad, and if this is going to stop that from happening, it's a big decision for him to make. Do you carry on being comfortable in yourself, or do you try and please your family?"
Will Dylan and Nico's romantic spark go further?
"Yeah, as this story moves on, it's something that Dylan has nobody to talk to about, but I think he really wants to be able to tell Nico. Trying to explain to your girlfriend that you dress as a woman is quite a difficult thing to do, so we'll have to wait and see what happens."

Dylan also gets targeted by some school bullies soon, doesn't he?
"Yes - of course bullies like to pick on people who are different, and that's definitely what Dylan is. For a long time he's been very proud to be different, but as these two school bullies are entering the show, there are moments where Dylan is not so proud and maybe there's an element where he wishes he could just fit in.
"Despite that, provided Dylan keeps his relationship with Nico and their closeness, he'd be able to go through anything probably. I think sometimes you just need one person to believe in you and then it's alright."
Dylan has a very distinctive look. How have you felt about changing your image for this role?
"It's been great fun. If anything, it's been the best part about it because it's enabled me in everyday life to walk around town and almost nobody ever bats an eyelid. I wear a beanie hat a lot of the time and I wear my hair flat. I think what's going to be interesting in the coming storyline is that you see Dylan more stripped down, so people will see more of the James in Dylan I suppose!"
The fans definitely seem to have warmed to Dylan and have complimented your acting, so are you pleased with the reaction so far?
"I've been amazed at how well he's been received, because I wasn't really sure when I took the role whether characters like Dylan still existed in the real world, but I can assure you they definitely do as they're following me on Twitter! It's been lovely to come into such an established soap and definitely put my own mark on it, rather than being just another character."

Who have you made friends with among the cast?
"Everybody up here has been absolutely lovely from day one. People have just been nicer than I ever could have imagined and really quite down-to-earth and real.
"I've been spending a lot of time with Persephone who plays Nico, because we've done a lot of scenes together so we've made friends. Myself and Parry, who plays Harry, also joined at a similar time and we did live together for a bit. We're still good friends and we're often geeking out about comic books and stuff."
Do you feel like you've been able to learn from the older cast too?
"Definitely, that's been amazing. I only had one job between leaving drama school and coming here to Hollyoaks. It's funny because in my final year at LAMDA, I said to the TV teacher after we did a short film that I almost felt like I needed a whole final year again but just doing TV, because the final year is mostly plays.
"That's literally what I ended up getting with Hollyoaks - I couldn't have asked for a better first year out of drama school. It's been amazing and such a brilliant platform to learn my craft at the next level."
Has acting been easy to get into?
"I wouldn't say it's happened completely easily - I've always been very aware of the trials that I've faced at each step. When I was much younger I wasn't even going to attempt to get into drama school because I'd heard that it was so difficult. I thought I'd never be able to do it, but then one of my mates was going to audition so I was like, 'Well I'm better than him so I'll give it a go!' (Laughs.) So I did and then I did the foundation course at LAMDA and consequently the three-year course, so I got into LAMDA twice.
"At every turn I've had some very sensible family members telling me, 'You do know acting's very difficult? It's one in a million'. I just said, 'I only need the one opportunity, I don't need the million!' I've ploughed on and tried to stay realistically optimistic and so far, touch wood, everything has fallen into place just at the right time for me."
Trevor Royle's son Dylan Jenkins will be bowing out from Hollyoaks, Digital Spy can reveal.
Young actor James Fletcher has decided to leave his role as the troubled teenager at the end of his current contract.
Dylan's final scenes are still a while away, so show bosses are lining up plenty more drama for him before he goes.
Recent weeks have seen Dylan take centre stage with a cross-dressing storyline, seeking comfort in wearing women's clothing following tough times at school and at home.
Viewers will soon see tough guy Trevor (Greg Wood) uncover his son's secret and threaten to disown him, leaving Dylan with some tough decisions to make.
Dylan also has a turbulent time ahead in his relationship with Nico Blake (Persephone Swales-Dawson), whose behaviour towards her mum Sienna is starting to spiral out of control.
A Hollyoaks insider told Digital Spy: "Dylan was a popular new addition with the show's young fans, so he definitely won't be leaving quietly. There's a busy few months ahead for him - building up to a memorable exit."
Fletcher was cast in Hollyoaks late last year as part of a handful of new teens brought in for storylines at Hollyoaks High.
Dylan made his first appearance in January, throwing a spanner in the works for Trevor's relationship with Grace Black and causing a stir at the school.

HOLLYOAKS fans were left "emotional" tonight as a regular character was killed off.
Dylan Jenkins was the latest victim of the Gloved Hand Killer in shocking scenes which no one saw coming.
Dylan and recently had a falling out over his dad Trevor Royle over the fact he was a cross dresser, but Dylan's touching final scenes saw his dad devastated by his death.
Fans took to Twitter to share their surprise at James' character being the unlucky victim, as the serial killer struck again.
One fan tweeted: "Great acting tonight in Hollyoaks!! So sad can't believe the gloved hand killer killed Dylan!"
Another expressed: "Dylan and Trevor last scene omg absolutely breathtaking . Brilliant acting. So emotional #hollyoaks".
Dylan himself, aka James, spoke to OK! Online about his dramatic exit and revealed he didn't know the identity of the killer.
He explained: "It was exciting to become another piece in the puzzle. Although it was very strange to film it all with no idea who my own murder actually was.
"I will be eagerly awaiting the big reveal. Currently my number one suspect is Kim. She seems to have the biggest motive for wanting Dylan out of the way!"
Admitting he was "pleased with his exit", James added: "I feel very fortunate to have had such a dramatic final story line. I think it suited Dylan to go out in style."
With Phoebe McQueen's shock demise at the hands of the killer only weeks ago, fans will no doubt be on the edge of their seats to learn who is next on the list.
James announced he was leaving the soap earlier this year, with a source promising a "memorable" exit.
Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood has spoken for the first time about actor James Fletcher's decision to leave the soap.
Fletcher decided to leave rather than renew his contract, and his popular character was killed by the Gloved Hand Killer late last month.
"We're really sad Dylan is not a permanent fixture in the show, but what he's done is create a really different character and given a much-needed emotional side to Trevor, Grace and Nico," Kirkwood told The Sun's TV supplement magazine.
"There will be a brilliant, big story in the aftermath of his departure."
Dylan sustained injuries in the soap's summer car crash before his murder at the hospital.

Kirkwood was full of praise for Fletcher and said that they were lucky to have him, adding that it was understandable - if upsetting - when actors want to do other things.
"He created a startlingly successful character in no time at all. The audience quickly fell in love with him," he said.
Talking to Digital Spy last month, Fletcher described Hollyoaks as a "wonderful show to work on" and added that he can't wait to find out who killed him.
