The story kicks off after Babe (Annette Badland) decides to do some detective work when she realises that Stan has been lying about his whereabouts.
When Babe learns that Stan (Timothy West) hasn't spent the day with his friend Cora Cross like he said, she instantly becomes suspicious.
Determined to uncover what Stan is hiding, Babe decides to follow him but is shocked when her detective work leads to her discovering that he is unwell.
Later, when back at The Vic, an upset Babe confronts Stan about his lies and admits that she knows where he went.
Babe is adamant that Stan needs to stop lying to his family and tell them the truth, but will he agree to share the devastating news that he is suffering from prostate cancer and only has months left to live?

Soon afterwards, Mick agrees to help out Alfie by looking after the twins for a while to give Kat a break. Linda isn't keen on the idea of getting close to the twins, but she eventually relaxes amid the difficult situation.
Later, Mick decides to spend some more quality time with Linda. He suggests a date night and they both agree when Sharon invites them over for a drink at The Albert. Meanwhile, Kat is still afraid of going outside, but Stacey convinces her to go for a few drinks at The Albert later. This helps Kat to regain her confidence, but Alfie panics when he learns that she is out with Stacey. Alfie goes to join the pair but ignores several calls from Mo in his panic. When Kat and Alfie return home, they are shocked to discover Mo and the kids out on the street with all of their belongings.

Later at The Vic, Kat's mood sours again when she hears that Alfie hasn't found them a place to stay, but Donna offers her a solution.
