View Full Version : Corrie's Christmas 2014
Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has promised that there are big stories ahead for almost every family in the show.
Speaking at a Coronation Street press event today (October 20), the show's boss explained that family stories are key over the next few months as it moves through to Christmas and beyond.
The Platt family will be among those taking centre stage as Gail deals with Michael's devastating health news and Kylie continues to battle drug addiction.
Blackburn said: "This marks the start of a really cracking three or four months' worth of stories, beyond Christmas and into January.
"It's all about the families and probably the nation's favourite families - the Barlows, the Platts, the Grimshaws, the Tinkers, the Websters. All of these guys are going to be taking centre stage in very different ways.
"For the Platts, it is just chaos isn't it? Complete heartache for poor Gail who has fallen in love with a man Michael, whose heart literally is broken.
"For David, it is the tragedy for Kylie again as she goes back to the past and has fallen into drug addiction. There is some incredibly moving, powerful stuff. I think all of you know that there will come a point where, for obvious reasons, Kylie vanishes.

Kyle battles with her drug addiction
"The story doesn't end there because by then, David will have wound up Callum who is not only Kylie's violent ex but is also the father of Max. He will do anything he can to get payback from David. We might also find that he has a few legal rights over Max as well given that he is his natural father."
Blackburn also teased a fun story for Nick Tilsley, the upcoming arrival of Claire King's character Erika and an ongoing struggle for Steve McDonald.
He said: "The soap gods aren't entirely cruel! Nick is going to have a whole heap of fun in the form of Liz's friend, Erika, played by the very glorious and very glamorous Claire King.
"Then there are the McDonalds over at The Rovers with a story that is really close to my heart. In some of the episodes coming up, the performances, especially from Simon Gregson and Kym Marsh, just prove again and again what wonderful actors they are."

Michelle and Steve
He added: "This is a story about Steve battling his secret, hidden depression. He is a man in chaos, scared and confused, and stuff like this doesn't happen to people like him. He is absolutely terrified of admitting it.
"This will come to a head in January where a tragedy will strike that will force him to face up to those demons. This isn't an issues story though. Obviously depression amongst men is incredibly widespread and probably not spoken about enough, but this is just a love story between Steve and Michelle and a very brilliant one at that."
Discussing other characters, Blackburn added: "There is loads more coming up. In brief, we have Faye's secret pregnancy, the return of Owen's first wife, some chickens at Christmas, a Tinker wedding and some sofa-based bonding for Kevin and Tim."

'Looks like I won`t be watching Corrie on Christmas Day for the first time in many years.
Thanks for nothing Stuart Blackburn. Your departure can`t come soon enough for me.

I think it sounds fine (if not very exciting) except for Faye's pregnancy. Also, I'll probably already be feeling sick from overeating on Christmas Day, so I won't want to spend time in the company of simpering idiots Gail and Michael.
The story I'm most invested in is Steve's depression.
i'd hate for david to loss max, he is a good dad to him

Didn't David officially adopt Max? If so, he's got no chance of losing him to Callum, though the latter may be able to win some limited rights to see him.

If David is his legally adoptive father, Callum has no rights at all.

Callum drug selling would stop him having rights and visits to Max
Unfortunately he is dealing without getting caught and without proof they cannot do anything. His mum is taking drugs and Davids got history of all sorts. So noone would get awards for parenting here.

Callum don't seem like a chap who would be very paternal to me but maybe to spit David and Kylie he wants contact with Max now
I think David would be the better option for Max than Callum despite his bad history too
Coronation Street's producer Stuart Blackburn has promised that Roy Cropper will be back on "an upward path" next year.
The show's boss admitted that there is still a while to go before the popular character finds happiness again following the tragic death of his wife Hayley.
Roy (David Neilson) has suffered some upsetting setbacks this month as he struggled to cope on a return trip to Blackpool, having previously visited the seaside resort with Hayley a year ago. He was also further traumatised by a break-in at the café once he returned home.
Asked whether things will improve for Roy, Blackburn told STV: "They will. The good news is that in 2015 we're going to see Roy back on an upward path, but there's a way to go yet because if you think about it, every week that goes by is another anniversary - the anniversary of the trip to Blackpool that we all remember, the anniversary of Hayley telling him that she wanted to take her own life, the anniversary of the last Christmas.
"Roy being Roy has just bottled it up and bottled it up. Added to that is him feeling victimised and bullied by what are essentially just children. It's all going to explode around Christmas time."
Blackburn also promised happy times ahead for Beth Tinker (Lisa George) and Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment), confirming that they will make it down the aisle with a successful wedding.
He said: "It's going to be the most bonkers wedding ever, though, absolutely bonkers! I can't wait to see it. We've only just started shooting so I haven't seen it yet. It's going to be a really good Tinkers wedding."
Sean Tully also has something to smile about when he finds love with a vicar called Billy, played by Daniel Brocklebank. However, there will be challenges when Sean starts to feel second best compared to Billy's job and his parishioners.
Blackburn said: "It's going to be tricky because there's three people in this relationship - Billy, Sean and God! But for once we might see Sean have a bit of happiness."
A young actor who played one of Roy Cropper's tormentors in Coronation Street has confirmed that he will have a role to play in the soap's Christmas episodes.
Michael Hindley made brief appearances in two episodes of the soap earlier this month, playing one of the teenagers who argued with Roy and broke into his flat.
The 21-year-old has since been asked to film more scenes involving Roy (David Neilson) which will be shown around Christmas time.
"I've been sworn to secrecy about my character and the storyline, but there has been character development and it's really amazing to be a part of it," Hindley told the Ormskirk and Skelmersdale Advertiser.
He added: "My first day on set was surreal. I was a bit starstruck at first, but I soon got over that because at the end of the day, this is my job.
"All of the team at Corrie are so friendly and really welcoming. David Neilson is the greatest guy ever, and he's been giving me lots of career advice and helping me with my scenes."

Roy was devastated by the break-in
Digital Spy understands that Roy's difficulties with the teenage thugs look set to ruin his Christmas this year. Coronation Street's producer Stuart Blackburn has previously teased that Roy's storyline will "explode" in the festive episodes.
Roy has struggled to get his life back on track following the tragic death of his beloved wife Hayley in January. Future episodes will see his troubles escalate as he continues to bottle everything up.
Maybe Roy makes peace with one of his tormentors and takes him under his wing? It's the sort of thing kind Roy would do, and he needs someone to care for again.
Coronation Street has released a dramatic new trailer which previews several of the show's upcoming storylines.

Wednesday's Coronation Street episode (October 29) ended with a cliffhanger, as Rob realised that his sister Carla Barlow had reported him to the police for killing Tina McIntyre.
Corrie's new trailer shows the aftermath of Carla's shock decision as she has an explosive argument with Tracy, who later decides to go on the run with Rob.
First look footage is also included of Todd being told that he is likely to be scarred for life after being attacked by a group of thugs.

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has hinted that there are more challenges ahead for his character Steve McDonald at Christmas.
Steve is secretly suffering from depression in his current storyline, but the show's festive episodes will see him attempt to bounce back for the sake of his young daughter Amy.

Simon Gregson as Steve
The Rovers boss is determined to make it a Christmas to remember for the schoolgirl, but his private struggles are not yet over.
Gregson commented: "Christmas Day is good, but the rest of it is not too clever. He drags himself up for Amy but goes a bit overboard.
"He invites everybody - the world and his dog - and tries to make it the best Christmas ever, but in true Steve style it doesn't go quite to plan."
With Steve and his partner Michelle Connor soon due to split up, they won't have resolved their differences in time for the festive season.
Michelle ends her relationship with Steve after his unusual behaviour pushes her to breaking point, failing to realise why he isn't himself.
Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle, explained: "I think Christmas will be bittersweet. She does get to spend it with Steve, but I don't think it's the Christmas reunion she will be hoping for."
On her hopes for Michelle in the New Year, the actress added: "I'd like things to sort themselves out for her and Steve. I'd love them to get back together and resolve their issues and get Steve back to being himself."
Steve is expected to fully face up to his demons in January following his involvement in the show's upcoming mini-bus crash stunt.

I know what you mean. It's all gone a bit flat since the Rob/Peter story.
Just caught up with them David was funny. Gavin is very worrying. Dev was funny too.

Seans new fella is really nice, and loved the introductory family meal, but what family sit squashed one side of the table and the other side empty? Eileen could have sat opposite, and i'm sure the TV camera's could have coped with a different angle!!!

My thoughts about the dinner table exactly!
Looks like they were reinacting the last supper for the vicar! Even famous artists don't use the other side of the table.
