EastEnders bosses have confirmed that the soap will be going live for its 30th anniversary next year.

The BBC show will broadcast a 30-minute live episode as part of its big birthday week in February 2015. In a further twist, all of the other episodes airing that week will also include live elements.

Little more is known about the storylines that will feature in EastEnders' milestone week, but it has been confirmed that the identity of Lucy Beale's killer will finally be revealed.

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins commented: "This is a fantastic opportunity for EastEnders to create a massive national event and one that will enable us celebrate 30 years of EastEnders in spectacular style.

"With live elements to each episode as well as a half hour live episode, it allows us to have a huge amount of surprises for the audience. It is ambitious and exciting and something I know everyone at EastEnders will excel at, as they always do."

BBC One's controller Charlotte Moore said: "BBC One will bring the nation together to celebrate 30 years of EastEnders by going live across the anniversary week. Next February will mark a massive event on the channel by creating the ultimate 'doof doof' and finally reveal who killed Lucy Beale."

Ben Stephenson, controller of drama commissioning at the BBC, added: "After a captivating year of drama in 2014, EastEnders will top this in February 2015 with the most ambitious anniversary any soap has attempted. 'Live week' allows us to keep loads of secrets from the cast, crew and the audience until the very last minute. With shocking reveals and unguessable twists, it's going to be a week that will change Albert Square forever."

EastEnders previously aired a live episode to mark its 25th anniversary in February 2010. The special edition included the death of Bradley Branning and the shock reveal that his wife Stacey was Archie Mitchell's killer.

The programme also had an eight-minute live sequence in July 2012 as part of a special episode which saw Billy Mitchell carry the Olympic Torch through Walford and Lola Pearce give birth to her daughter Lexi.

EastEnders will launch its 'live week' on Monday, February 16 2015.

A show statement teased: "This special week will give a nod to the past and welcome the future. With storylines culminating and big momentous events happening, the EastEnders 30th anniversary will take its place in television history."

It all seems too similar to the live ep when Bradley died and Stacey confessed to killing Archie - and that was amazing, they'll have to do a lot to top that!

Max Branning will be "heavily involved" in the EastEnders 30th anniversary shows, says actor Jake Wood.

Wood said that his commitment to the upcoming live soap episodes will impact his availability for the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

Speaking to Digital Spy and others, he said: "I know I can't do all of [the Strictly Come Dancing tour], because of EastEnders and the 30th anniversary and the live episodes coming up.

"I think Max is heavily involved in those, so I hope they can sort something out."

The actor also praised the soap's "dynamite" Christmas scripts.

"We've got a great Christmas this year," Wood said. "So much to come out with the Carters and all those storylines.

"Although I wasn't much involved, I've read the scripts and they're dynamite."

EastEnders stars will look back on 30 years of Walford drama in a new series commissioned for BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders: Back to Ours will launch in early January, reliving some of the show's most iconic moments in the build-up to the 30th anniversary.

Cast members from the BBC One soap will be seen sitting in their on-screen homes watching some of their own characters' memorable scenes.

While re-watching their alter egos' highlights, the soap stars will share their memories and behind-the-scenes stories. Clips featured will span through EastEnders' entire history, including some from when the show first launched in 1985.

Shane Richie (Alfie Moon), Jessie Wallace (Kat Moon), Diane Parish (Denise Fox), Tameka Empson (Kim Fox), Rudolph Walker (Patrick Trueman), Himesh Patel (Tamwar Masood) and Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed) have already been confirmed for the series, but more names will be announced soon.

Speaking of his involvement, Richie commented: "What a wonderful time I had sitting on the sofa with Jessie watching 12 years of Kat and Alfie. We laughed, we cried and we giggled as we remembered the past 12 years."

Himesh Patel and Nitin Ganatra will also feature

The exclusive iPlayer series follows EastEnders' continued success on the on-demand service. Individual episodes of the soap still often achieve over 1 million requests, while other iPlayer-only specials have proved popular in the past.

Jay Brown's police interview, which was released on iPlayer after he became a suspect in Lucy Beale's murder, attracted 375,000 requests in seven days earlier this year.

Victoria Jaye, Head of TV Content for BBC iPlayer, added: "Commissioning Back to Ours builds on the success of BBC iPlayer exclusive EastEnders programmes that feed audiences' excitement around the show's biggest storylines and moments.

"It doesn't get much bigger than the 30th anniversary, so we're delighted to offer the millions of fans who enjoy EastEnders on BBC iPlayer each week, this exclusive treat."

Back to Ours will launch in the week commencing January 5 in the run-up to EastEnders' live week for the 30th anniversary.

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised that there are big storylines on the way for a number of the show's long-standing characters.

Kat, Alfie, Dot, Ian, Sharon and Phil will all have dramatic times ahead as the show builds up to its 30th anniversary in February.

Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie as Kat and Alfie

The Moons' marriage has recently hit the rocks as Kat was appalled when Alfie finally confessed that he started the fire that left her badly burned.

Whether the pair can get back on track remains to be seen, but whatever the outcome, there are even more surprising events for them in the New Year.

Treadwell-Collins commented: "Kat and Alfie are quieter at Christmas, but their story for next year is new, fresh and exciting. For characters that have been around for a long time, that's very hard to do and we've achieved that.

"Dot also finally has Christmas with Nick, which is really magical and slightly camp! This is building to the anniversary. We really wanted to go back to our origins and you'll see between now and February that big stories start to rumble for Dot, Ian, Sharon and Phil which build to the anniversary."

The upcoming return of Tameka Empson as Kim will also see the Foxes and Patrick return to the forefront.

Treadwell-Collins added: "Kim returns which is wonderful. She returns with a secret. That's the start of a very, very big exciting story for the Truemans and the Foxes - Denise and Kim and some new faces!"

As show bosses are aiming to give each family on the Square a share of the spotlight over the next few months, Digital Spy also understands that the Masoods have a big story of their own coming up in the near future.

The Poison Dwarf has expressed hope that more EastEnders stars from the past will join her in returning for the 30th anniversary next year.

The actress previously confirmed that she will be back on EastEnders for an episode that will see her popular character Peggy Mitchell meet Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) for the first time.

Speaking on The Jonathan Woss Show, Windsor said that she would love to see Woss Kemp return alongside her to the series.

"When they burned The Vic down, I thought they were annoyed with me [and] they were going to burn me down as well," she joked about her exit from the show.

"They never told me until the bitter end that I wasn't [being killed off] - but I didn't mind whatever they did, because I'd chosen to go. I was getting a bit tired."

Windsor went on to say: "They said, 'We'd never kill you off Barbara', and they keep every now and again phoning me up and saying will I go back, and I can't resist it.

"I've got to go back - it's 30 years. I'm going to try and get some people back - some others, please God!"

It has already been confirmed that the show will also integrate a variety of live elements into EastEnders throughout anniversary week next year.

Jane proposes to Ian.

Scenes airing next week will see the happy couple confirm their wedding date as February 19, 2015 - EastEnders' 30th anniversary.

The pair were originally married in 2006, but their turbulent relationship ended in 2011 when Ian had an affair with Glenda Mitchell. Following the split, Jane left Walford in 2012.

The ceremony will take place during EastEnders' live week, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the long-running soap.

Lucy Beale's killer will also be revealed during the anniversary week.

BBC One's controller Charlotte Moore said: "BBC One will bring the nation together to celebrate 30 years of EastEnders by going live across the anniversary week.

"Next February will mark a massive event on the channel by creating the ultimate 'doof doof' and finally reveal who killed Lucy Beale."

EastEnders bosses have officially confirmed the exact date that Lucy Beale's killer will be revealed.

The long-running murder mystery will finally be resolved on Thursday, February 19 - EastEnders' 30th anniversary.

Show chiefs disclosed the date in a short video teaser released on Twitter following the dramatic New Year's Day episode.

The revelation of Lucy's killer will be one of the highlights of the big birthday week, which kicks off from Monday, February 16.

The celebrations will include a 30-minute live episode, as well as live elements to all of the other episodes airing across the anniversary week.

Lucy's family will be central to the episodes as Ian and Jane are planning to remarry and have set their wedding date for February 19.

The New Year's Day episode of EastEnders saw Emma Summerhayes prepare to go to the police after discovering who Lucy's killer was, but she was stopped in her tracks when her health began to deteriorate.

Emma had been knocked down by Roxy Mitchell in a road accident and the episode ended with her being rushed off to hospital by her on-off partner Max Branning, leaving fans to wonder whether she will survive.

While the latest episode may have left fans with more questions than answers, the characters signposted as a final shortlist of suspects were Ian, Jane, Cindy, Pam, Les, Denise, Jay, Ben, Peter, Lauren, Abi, Lee, Whitney and Max.

Lucy Beale will return from the dead for a special EastEnders flashback episode that will air during the live week and will show exactly how and why she was murdered.

In an EastEnders-first, executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins is yet again pushing the boundaries to make sure the 30th celebrations for the BBC soap go off with a bang.

Already marking the anniversary with a special live week which will see Lucy’s killer revealed after a ten-month investigation, they will now have the opportunity to see exactly how and why it happened as Hetti Bywater returns to film flashback scenes.

Viewers will be taken back to the night she was murdered where the blanks will be filled in and many unanswered questions will be answered, as well as other stories featuring.

Was Ian really with Rainie that night? What were Ben and Jay really up to? What secret are Abi and Max hiding? Is Jake really innocent?

And while it will focus on Lucy’s final moments in Walford, it will also feature other stories to tie up even more lose ends.

As well as Hetti returning, Jamie Lomas (Jake Stone) and Tanya Franks (Rainie Cross) are also getting ready to film more flashback scenes.

Jo Joyner will return to EastEnders for the 30th anniversary week.

The actress will be reprising her role as Tanya Branning as part of the ongoing Lucy Beale killer storyline, which will culminate during the anniversary week.

Joyner told the Mirror that she will be back for at least two episodes: "I'm thrilled to be a part of the 30-year celebrations.

"I'm really looking forward to working with everyone again, no matter how briefly. I hope I didn't kill Lucy!"

Joyner will take part in EastEnders's heavily-hyped live episode, as Tanya returns to celebrate friend Jane (Laurie Brett) and Ian Beale's (Adam Woodyatt) marriage.

Producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins added: "Tanya and [former partner] Max's rows were legendary and it's going to be thrilling to watch Jo and Jake [Wood] go head-to-head again - but this time live."

Rumours of Kemp's return to the show were fuelled when the BBC refused to confirm a report that Kemp would be back for the soap's 30th anniversary.

Windsor will be reprising her role as Peggy Mitchell for one episode as part of the anniversary week in February.

The live episodes of the BBC soap were originally expected to air from the Monday. The schedule change is thought to be the result of the BBC's FA Cup football coverage.

The other instalments airing that week will also include live elements.

Meanwhile, EastEnders' 30th anniversary will be marked with two special broadcasts on Radio 2 next month.

BBC One's controller Charlotte Moore commented: "BBC One will mark the 30th anniversary of its flagship series with the most ambitious week of live television drama ever attempted. The truth will out as Lucy Beale's killer is finally exposed to the nation.

"Alongside the unmissable drama, we have a Graham Norton special and Zoe Ball will present a live backstage show with Ore Oduba and Joe Swash to complete proceedings - it's going to be off the scale!"

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins added: "As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we have set ourselves an enormous challenge - a week of live scenes, a form-breaking flashback, a live episode, story twists that will leave a lump in the throat and a few moments that will elicit genuine gasps from our audience.

"Having the week bookmarked with some of our most iconic characters on Graham's sofa and Zoe's live aftermath show coming direct from Albert Square as the dust is just settling, elevates this into the biggest week ever for EastEnders fans old and new."

Kat Moon will furiously lash out at Sonia Fowler on EastEnders later this month, as her personal problems escalate.

Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) will bear the brunt of Kat's drunken behaviour at Ian and Jane Beale's wedding, resulting in a dramatic showdown between the pair.

Although Kat (Jessie Wallace) agrees to attend the wedding with her estranged husband Alfie, any hopes for a reconciliation are crushed as she starts knocking back drinks. This causes Alfie to become increasingly fed up with her out-of-control behaviour.

The day then goes from bad to worse as Kat grows jealous of Alfie (Shane Richie) and soon spots Sonia staring at her. When Sonia confronts a drunken Kat about her frosty behaviour, Kat takes things too far and pushes Sonia's face into the wedding cake.

With everyone shocked by the commotion, Alfie intervenes and desperately tries to get through to Kat, but has she gone too far this time?

New EastEnders pictures have been released offering a first look at the moment that Peggy Mitchell comes face-to-face with the Queen Vic's newest landlord Mick Carter.

Peggy, played by Barbara Windsor, is returning to Walford for one episode which will air as part of the BBC soap's 30th anniversary celebrations next week.

Danny Dyer and Barbara Windsor in The Vic

While Peggy has other reasons for heading back to Albert Square, she can't resist paying a visit to The Vic and fans can look forward to a must-see scene as she meets Mick for the first time.

Danny Dyer, who plays Mick, has revealed that he was delighted to have the opportunity to briefly work alongside Windsor.

"It was a real moment when I got told because for me, I think EastEnders had some of its best moments when Barbara was at the helm," Dyer explained. "So it was a shame that when I came in, Barbara was no longer in the show. So when I was told Barbara was coming back for an episode and doing a scene with me, it was just a real moment of like, 'Wow, wow, it's gonna happen!'

"I think we were both a little bit nervous, to be honest with you. I was a bit nervous obviously because Barbara was the matriarch. It's an intimidating place to act in The Vic, so we were both nervous together and I think that worked beautifully. She's a beautiful lady and I think we both inspired each other in different ways."

He added: "I've known Barbara for a little while but not well. But she was lovely. She wound me up and said, 'Oi you, I want a word with you!' I was like, 'Oh no, here we go', and then she wound me up and gave me a big cuddle. It was lovely to be around her. Barbara is a real force and a real presence and a massive EastEnders fan. She gave me the thumbs up which is a massive thing!"

EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, February 17 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

I can barely contain my excitement. I for one just cannot wait for the return of this fantastic actress who will breath new life into the show with her fantastic acting abilities. Such a shame that the licence payers could not afford to fund her for a full time return. To me she epitomises Eastenders and the show is a poorer place without her talents.

Well I for one can't wait for this momentous moment in television history.

It will be the highlight of the Eastenders year and especially the week. All the other stories, the reveal of Lucy's murderer, the ongoing Linda/Dean rape story, Nick and Dot Cotton, Ian and Jane's wedding, will all pale into insignificance beside this. It will be spoken of for another 30 years.

The BBC has said that EastEnders' Live Week's scenes will be clearly highlighted for viewers.

The soap will celebrate its 30th anniversary next week, with episodes on Tuesday (February 17), Wednesday (February 18) and Thursday (February 19) including live inserts, ahead of an entire live episode on Friday (February 20).

Responding to fans on the show's official Facebook page, it was confirmed that the scenes would be "clearly marked" with the official hashtag '#EELive', enabling viewers to know exactly when the cast are broadcasting live from the Elstree set.

Live Week will see the 'Who Killed Lucy Beale?' storyline come to a head, with the killer being revealed in Thursday's hour-long edition. It will be followed by a special 30-minute flashback episode that will take viewers back to Good Friday 2014, revealing the true sequence of events that led to Lucy's (Hetti Bywater) murder.

Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell), Jo Joyner (Tanya Branning) and John Partridge (Christian Clarke) will all make on-screen comebacks across the week.

Number 23 is the house where Arthur Fowler, Den Watts and Ali Osman found Reg Cox in episode one of EastEnders, shortly before he died.

Next week, it will be Reg's killer Nick Cotton (John Altman) who will be found in a grim state at the house. However, unlike his victim Reg, he will already be dead.

Dot won't be able to keep her secret under wraps for long

An EastEnders statement teased: "Bosses are keeping tight lipped about which characters are involved, but the scene will be reminiscent of the very first ever episode. It is not the only nod to the past that EastEnders will be giving that week and viewers should keep their eyes open for other moments that mirror past stories."

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins added: "Live Week allows us to have some fun while also paying respect to our past. Our story producer Alex Lamb had the idea to replicate EastEnders' first ever scene back when we started planning our anniversary - and it has been lovingly modernised for 2015 by anniversary producer Sharon Batten, our longest-serving EastEnders writer Rob Gittins and director Karl Neilson.

"With little touches like this throughout the week, we will hopefully make Julia Smith and Tony Holland proud of the show they created back in 1985."

Meanwhile, the pictured scenes above will air on Tuesday (February 17), showing a grief-stricken Dot Branning (June Brown) pay another visit to her wayward son at Number 23 after watching him die.

EastEnders celebrates its 30-year milestone all next week, with highlights including a 30-minute live episode, the revelation of who killed Lucy Beale, a special flashback episode, Ian and Jane's wedding and the returns of Peggy Mitchell, Tanya Cross and Christian Clarke.

"There shouldn't be live episodes," she joked to the Daily Star. "Luckily, I've only got one live scene on Tuesday but it's so different to doing theatre. There are cameras, there's cables and there's microphones.

"I've already been told to be careful because there's a cable and this big thing above me."

Windsor also expressed disappointment that she will not be joined by former co-star Ross Kemp.

"That Ross is a cheeky bugger. He'll say to me over dinner, 'Yeah, I'm coming back,' and then he doesn't," she said. "I actually thought he would come back this time."

The actress went on to say: "Of course, I'm a little disappointed there won't be one last scene with Peggy and her boys. It would've been good, but a lot of other stuff is happening on the show."

EastEnders aired the first live scenes of its 30th anniversary week in Tuesday night's episode (February 17), including a shock live cliffhanger.

The BBC show is marking its milestone with live elements to all of this week's episodes, building up to a full 30-minute live broadcast this Friday.

EastEnders aired three live scenes in total in Tuesday's episode, with one being used to open the broadcast as Peggy Mitchell returned to Albert Square and Richard Blackwood made his first appearance as mysterious newcomer Vincent.

Subsequent scenes were pre-recorded, until the moment that Jane Beale opened up the wedding card that Lauren Branning had left for her.

With Lauren seemingly now aware of how Lucy Beale died, her card to Jane revealed some surprising new information - disclosing her belief that Lucy was killed in her own home.

This wasn't the only shock moment as a live cliffhanger airing immediately afterwards saw Lauren's father Max panic after she suddenly decided to flee from the Square.

Confronting his youngest daughter Abi, Max said: "She ain't coming back. You don't get it, do you? You don't understand. She knows you killed Lucy."

Show bosses previously promised that the identity of Lucy's killer would be revealed this Thursday, so time will only tell whether there is any truth to Max's belief or whether it's another red herring in the long-running storyline.

EastEnders' 30th anniversary Live Week is already captivating fans and now Digital Spy can give you the inside scoop from the man who is bringing you each of the episodes.

Long-time EastEnders director Karl Neilson has been working on this week's special broadcasts since November, which has involved overseeing pre-recorded scenes, live elements, the Lucy Beale flashback episode and this Friday's 30-minute live broadcast.

DS chatted to Karl this week for his expert insight into a week that Walford will never forget.

EastEnders director Karl Neilson

When were you first told that you would be the director of Live Week?
"I spoke to [executive producer] Dominic [Treadwell-Collins] about it in August last year. I'd been working very hard to get this block of episodes - I really wanted to do them because it's my own 20th anniversary this year of working on the show. I knew that these episodes were going to be massive, so I did do a good pitch to try and get the job!

"They came to me in August and said that I would be directing and I was thrilled. I then started working on the episodes at the beginning of November."

It's being billed as the most ambitious soap anniversary ever! Are you feeling the pressure?
"I've just been really excited from the beginning and it has been going really well. We've done two hours of pre-record and the cast have been rehearsing the live scenes for about a fortnight now. It's gone so well and really knitted together, so that has fuelled my excitement.

"On Monday night I didn't get a wink of sleep, but that's just because it felt like the night before Christmas and I wanted to open my presents! I'd be lying if I said there were no nerves, but overwhelmingly it's a feeling of excitement because I'm going to be at the helm of a national TV event."

What have the main challenges been?
"It's been an interesting experience due to the secrecy. The killer didn't know who they were and in order to keep that secret - which is part of the reason for going live - we were having to work very carefully by censoring a lot of scenes. That meant that we would do a scene and the actor wouldn't know where they were coming from or where they were going to in the story. It was an added pressure for me to knit it together and find a way to direct them without telling them too much!

"Sometimes that was quite major. We have one of our characters turn up at the wedding, and when they arrived they played it as very happy and smiley, but what I knew was that someone very close to them had just told them that they knew they'd killed Lucy! That obviously affected how they were going to perform in that scene, so I had to find a way of directing them without giving the story away.

"That happened on numerous occasions because it's such a gigantic week and there are so many big secrets and reveals that come out. It was a case of keeping on top of that to make sure that I was shooting a coherent story without telling the actors too much."

It sounds like you've been relishing the challenge!
"As a director it's an absolute gift of a week, because it's a story where the audience are continually looking for meaning in every line and every reaction. Because of that I was determined to get very specific performances which would steer the story as I wanted it to be steered throughout the week. That's great for the audience, but the cast were also starting to look for meaning in how I was directing them to find out if they were the killer!

"I had to tread very carefully as some of them didn't care if they were the killer, and others really did care and didn't want it to be them! That was the big directing difficulty I've had, but apart from that it's been an absolute pleasure. The show has been so ambitious with this week. As a week of soap, it's absolutely astonishing what the show is about to deliver."

When did Dominic tell you who the killer was?
"He offered it to me at the first meeting and said that he would tell me if I wanted to know but I declined! I didn't want to know until I got things under way. In a way, I didn't want that burden of knowing until I absolutely had to! You're terrified that the secret is going to get out and you don't want to potentially be seen as the person responsible for giving it away!

"So I wasn't told until the time came that I had to know, which was the middle of November. Even now it's still a very, very small number of people who do know."

Tuesday's episode had three live scenes. Will some episodes be more live than others?
"We eased into it on Tuesday with the live intro and the two scenes at the end of the episode. Then on Wednesday it grows, so we have a lot more live elements on Wednesday and on Thursday. Then on Friday we go fully live, so it grows throughout the week.

"There's always an obvious reason why we're live throughout the week - there's usually an event, a secret or a reveal. The live element will really help with the way we tell those stories."

Is it a challenge to make the shift between pre-record and live look seamless?
"Yes, because it's a very different way of working and I've never done live television before. I've had to learn very quickly about how you do it and how you knit it together. It's very much a different way of working, but because of the time we've had to rehearse, it has come together so far.

"If it goes as well as it has in rehearsals, it will really be very slick - but you just don't know what could go wrong with live television! I'm anticipating that something will go wrong, whether it's someone forgetting a line or something else. These things may well happen, but hopefully it won't hinder the enjoyment. If anything it probably adds to it!"

Was it important for you to signpost which bits are live?
"It was something that we debated quite a lot - how we would let the audience know which bits are live. I think it is important, because otherwise the audience would have kept questioning whether a scene is live or not. So in the end we settled on the on-screen hashtag to let the audience know which bits are live. I think that will probably help the experience and help us to show why we've chosen to go live each time."

Can you tell us a bit about the episodes airing on the anniversary on Thursday?
"Thursday is just gigantic and it's been the most amazing challenge for me. We've got the hour-long episode first of all, and as everyone knows now, the story harks back to episode one of EastEnders. I really wanted to pay homage to the first episode, so I carefully created the first three shots of episode one. We put that into the edit machine and made sure that we got the exact timing of the shots. It was actually the editor Damian Raistrick's idea to also take the sound from episode one and put it in there. It's a proper homage to when EastEnders began and all that was wonderful about it.

"Then on the same night we go into the flashback episode. I wanted it to have a very specific feel to it. Whereas the first episode has the homage to episode one, the flashback starts in a very, very different way. It's a way that EastEnders has never started before and probably usually can't! It's a great experience to lead you into this episode.

"My challenge really was to create a filmic feel to it. Even though it's EastEnders and won't offend the show's core audience, it definitely has a certain style and feels a bit special. I've actually gone a bit 'film noir', so it's taking place in a world of shadows, reflections, neon, smoke and mirrors. It's a very specific world with a very specific stylistic device as we the audience follow Lucy to her death."

Has the flashback episode been a continuity nightmare?!
"That's a really good question! (Laughs.) There were continuity problems because we've shot a lot of CCTV footage showing Lucy's last night. The set has also changed. Number 23 has been blown up, The Vic has been repainted and there are some new shops. I had to be very careful that I staged everything to fit the CCTV and the set as it was on Good Friday 2014.

"There's a shot in the flashback where I reinstate Number 23 to its pre-blown-up state. We worked closely on that, but hopefully it means that the audience can go back to the CCTV and go back to Good Friday and find that everything matches. We're quite confident that the story isn't compromised and we've pulled that off. So it's going to be the most amazing one and a half hours on Thursday night."

Do you have a favourite episode from the week?
"Every one is terrific. We started exceptionally strongly on Tuesday with the reveal at the end of the episode, and I think every episode carries its own wonderful gift for the audience. If I was really pushed, I have to admit that I'm very proud of the flashback episode because it was a chance to do something that is so unique.

"We've not actually rehearsed Friday's episode in its entirety yet. We've rehearsed all of the scenes individually but we haven't put it together yet. We started that on Tuesday morning and certainly one of the opening scenes reduced everybody to tears!

"Because it's so live and the journey it will take the audience on - and also the way it celebrates the show at the end - I think Friday will probably be the standout episode. But I think it's going to be a week of standout episodes and I wouldn't miss any of them!"

Will you be pre-recording a dress rehearsal just in case of a huge technical fault on the night?
"Yes, we are. We have to because things can go wrong! Across the week, what will be revealed is that we have been so ambitious and there are definite opportunities where things could go wrong, particularly on Thursday and Friday.

"The ambition is so great that we need to have that back-up, but the back-up tape is recorded at the very last minute. Where certain secrets are revealed, they will only be revealed to everyone at the very latest moment - perhaps at 12 on the night before the show goes out. We're going to the wire to protect the secrets as much as possible, and we hope they stay under wraps!"

Tanya Branning just got fiction and reality all mixed up on EastEnders.

Actress Jo Joyner fluffed a line during tonight's live episode (February 18), accidentally referring to Ian Beale - played by the actor Adam Woodyatt - as 'Adam'.

"@RossPickering: How's Adam? Don't you mean Ian? #liveproblems #eelive https://t.co/sLVJRMjcFI" @RyanJL

— Jack Wing (@Jackk023) February 18, 2015

It was Joyner's first scene on the show since leaving in 2013.

The actress - who is back on EastEnders for at least two 30th anniversary episodes - posted about the live episode earlier today to express her nerves before the shoot.

Well. This is all beginning to feel very real...... #toolatetobackoutnow #EElive #whatwasithinking

— Jo Joyner (@dollyjoyner) February 18, 2015

Twitter reacted with glee to the slip-up, with 'How's Adam' trending in the UK.

I'd really like to be surprised tomorrow, but who else could it be? Ben? Jay? Phil? Ben seems a possibility especially given that Phil's hiding something from Ian.

It could be someone that hasn't been on the radar at all of course. As long as it makes sense I don't mind.

Jane definitely knows something whoever the killer turns out to be. I couldn't see her covering for someone she's not close to.

I just don't understand how Bobby has the strength to hit her that hard to even do that. She knew he was there so it couldn't of been a sneak attack and he has no remorse or what happened, even though he doesn't think he killed her yet but still. How the hell has Bobby been 'normal' for the last year.

I suppose the real question now is whether Jane will take the blame for this or will she reveal all?

Maybe Bobby hit her when she was sitting down so the blow would have had more force. (Thinking about it he wouldn't have been able to reach if she was standing up lol.) Also, she hit her head two other times that day (in the car lot office and when she had the fight with Denise) so those injuries may have contributed.

Well Jane whisked Bobby away the next day so she had time to get him under control. They didn't come back for months.

Jane might try to take the blame but I can't see Ian letting her get away with murder so I think the truth'll come out (probably tomorrow).

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised that there is an "even bigger" story ahead for the Beale family now that Bobby's guilt has been revealed.

Thursday night's 35-minute flashback episode (February 19) saw the surprising revelation that Bobby killed his half-sister Lucy on Good Friday 2014, resolving a whodunit mystery which had run for 10 months.

Speaking afterwards in a live EastEnders Facebook stream, Treadwell-Collins was asked whether he ever had other characters in mind to be the killer.

He replied: "There was one other suspect for about a day, but then it didn't feel right. We always said that this story had to come from the heart, and with this, it's the start of a whole big new story for the Beales.

"We kept on going on about [2003 novel] We Need to Talk About Kevin - we need to talk about Bobby! So actually this is the beginning of an even bigger story for the Beales. We've got to keep going!"

Treadwell-Collins confirmed that young actor Eliot Carrington, who plays Bobby, was made aware of his character's guilt on Monday evening (February 16) before the BBC soap's Live Week began.

Carrington responded positively to the twist, pointing out that it was natural for Bobby's adoptive mother Jane to cover for him.

Treadwell-Collins said: "Most people didn't know. We had to keep it quiet because things leak. We always say that if someone tells you a secret, you always tell one person. I always tell one person! We couldn't afford that.

"We told [Eliot] on Monday. We told his dad before that obviously and checked that it was okay, but we knew that it was always going to be Bobby. But when we told him... he's so clever, Eliot! He said, 'Oh God, that makes sense. Of course Jane had to do it because otherwise Bobby would go to juvey'. He's a clever little boy!"

Treadwell-Collins also revealed that EastEnders' story producer Alex Lamb was the first person to suggest that the culprit should be Bobby.

"My idea was Jane and then Cindy," he explained. "And then Alex Lamb said Bobby. We were at story conference and we went up to my hotel room - [series producer] Sharon [Batten], Alex Lamb, [script producer] Manpreet Dosanjh and I.

"We sat there and came up with it and we jumped up and down! If you look at the pieces now, Jane took Bobby away! We cleverly, I hope, seeded everything."

The aftermath of the big reveal will be explored on screen on Friday as EastEnders airs a 30-minute live episode.

EastEnders boss responds to criticism over Bobby killer reveal

EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has dismissed criticism over the Bobby killer reveal.

11-year-old Bobby Beale was revealed to be his half-sister's killer, bringing the 'Who Killed Lucy?' storyline to a shocking conclusion on Thursday (February 19).

Speaking of the twist, Treadwell-Collins compared the storyline to Marmite, telling The Mirror: "We had another suspect in mind at first and it was someone outside of the family and it was all a bit too serial killer, and that wasn't right.

"EastEnders is all about families and it's about kitchen sink drama. I said from the start that it's got to be emotional and come from the heart. We knew very much from the start that it would be Bobby. All the best stories have to be controversial. You can't please everyone."

10.8 million people tuned into the EastEnders 30th anniversary shows to find out who killed Lucy, but Friday's show made it clear that even Bobby himself didn't know he was responsible for his sister's murder.

"The fact Bobby doesn't know he did it is very important," Treadwell-Collins revealed. "I wouldn't lumber a little boy with that. It was a conscious decision not to screen the actual attack. That would have been too much, especially for a child."

The 'Who Killed Lucy?' twist became the most-tweeted about episode of a UK soap ever.

The BBC received complaints about the episodes after they aired on February 19, with fans claiming promotional material 'misled' audiences by not listing Bobby as a suspect, while Ofcom also reported receiving complaints about the storyline.

I thought Cindy was surprised by Jane's story, but I don't actually remember the cameras giving much attention to her reaction. That might have been done deliberately because there's more to reveal about her involvement, or it could just be that the cameras were mainly focused on Ian and Jane. I admit I wasn't paying much attention to Cindy.

I don't buy that Bobby don't think he killed Lucy, Bobby is 10 and is shown to be highly intelligent, he was even keeping newspaper reports on Lucy's case and now he thinks his hitting her with a box did no damage and she died the following day another way

Even the way he looked and said to Jane no matter what Lucy said, she started it making everyone uphappy was scarily chilling like from the child from the film The Omen

I know, I agree. I thought that Bobby must secretly know (until I read DTC's interview posted above). Maybe DTC is misleading us again? I wouldn't put it past him. I don't mind if that's the case as there's far too many spoilers around nowadays so it's nice to be misled occasionally instead. :)

It's a fictional story about fictional people. Fiction is not real life. Authors of thrillers and detective novels often mislead their readers. It makes the denouement more exciting and unexpected. Do people complain to OfCom about Poirot mysteries on television or Midsomer Murders?

I've read that Bobby actually had the shortest odds (if that's the correct terminology - I know nothing about betting) in the run up to the reveal, so lots of people did bet on him. I don't know how people guessed! Maybe because it became very obvious that Jane was hiding something and Bobby was the person she'd most likely cover for.

Yes, that's true, Dazzle. Like I said on the Current Episodes thread - by the time Bobby was revealed as the killer, it had been plastered all over Social Media and, as I said, it wouldn't have come as any surprise at all to people who frequent places like Facebook and Twitter.

Agreed Parkerman- but wasnt there a flurry
of large bets( placed in East End) on who
had killed Lucy and bookies suspended
betting on some suspects.I thought seen it
in this forum. If Im wrong -sorry!
If it was so-couldnt some chancer accuse
BBC staff of some form of odds-fixing by
misleading info- whilst inferring they
had placed a bit on more likely or known
suspect.
Probably far-fetched but some people will
try any thing.

The BBC could only be accused of fixing the odds if senior executives and others in the know betted heavily on the outcome themselves. If people are stupid enough to bet on the outcome of a fictional story that's their problem.

Bets are real though. People were allowed to bet and were given the list of suspects.

I'd bet in Jane, but Thursday lunchtime put a sneaky quid on Bobby!!

I don't feel cheated at all

Betting is always a gamble (pun intended), and people were allowed to vote for anyone, not just the 14 suspects (and plenty of people did). Mick was another quite popular suspect who wasn't on the official list.

One site even allowed betting on the car lot's office chair (I think Lucy banged her head on it)... :ninja:

I just thought the way it was worded it had to be one of the 14. Like Emmerdale and Neighbours have done lists of suspects, and it has been one of them. So I can understand people complaining.
