Alfie gets the idea to start a fire
With his financial problems mounting, Alfie decides that the only way out of his mess is to set fire to the family home in an insurance scam.
Alfie puts his foolish plan into motion, but is later left horrified when he learns that his house is not empty as he had first thought.
When Alfie runs back home in the hope of launching a rescue mission, he is left horrified as an unexpected explosion rips through the house. He rushes into the burning building, but his crime is about to have far-reaching consequences that he never could have imagined.
Meanwhile, the Mitchells will also be taking centre stage this month as Phil's big wedding to Sharon Rickman (Letitia Dean) is on the way.
When Phil (Steve McFadden) discovers that Sharon has been plotting to scam him, he sets his own revenge plan in motion - with help from his ex-partner Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), who is more than happy to be part of his life again.
As always in Walford, there will be a few stumbling blocks on the way for Phil's plans - including the unexpected return of his son Ben, now played by Harry Reid.
A show statement teased: "Will it be a case of for better or worse for Phil and Sharon, or will Shirley make sure things go off with a bang? One thing is for sure, there will be casualties in this love triangle."

EastEnders fans can also look forward to the return of pregnant Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) this month as she heads back to Walford following her time away.
Ronnie arrives in time for the Mitchell wedding and insists that she is only back to stop Phil from marrying Sharon.
Determined to do things on her own this time, it remains to be seen whether Ronnie will admit the truth to her old flame Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) when they come face-to-face.
EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins commented: "Bombs that we have been carefully planting over the last few months are about to explode all over the Square as some of our most iconic characters' lives change forever.
"With huge twists, shock returns and stories which will move, provoke and entertain, this September is going to be classic EastEnders and an unforgettable start to our autumn."
An EastEnders spokesperson added: "This is just the start of what is in store for the residents of Walford this September, but more news will be announced very soon."
Show chiefs will also be releasing a drama-filled September trailer on the official EastEnders website at 3pm today (September 5).
