EastEnders airs John Partridge's return scenes later this month as Ian Beale pays a visit to Christian Clarke's flat in Birmingham.

Ian (Adam Woodyatt) heads to Christian's home in search of Jane after the final preparations for Lucy's funeral become too much for him to handle.

When Ian turns up at the flat after fleeing from the Square, he is clearly upset as he hasn't heard whether Christian and Jane will be attending the service.

Christian promises that he'll be there, but once Ian leaves, Jane (Laurie Brett) tells her brother that she can't face going…

Ian flees from Walford when the final preparations for Lucy's funeral become too much for him to handle. He finds himself at Christian's flat in Birmingham looking for Jane, upset as he hasn't heard whether either of them are attending the service. Christian promises to be there, but once Ian leaves, Jane tells Christian that she can't face going.

Later, once Ian has returned to Walford, Max finds him in his car - seemingly oblivious to the world around him. When Ian asks about his experience with loss, Max tries to offer some advice.

Meanwhile, Mick is concerned to see Shirley so upset and becomes desperate to fix things by bringing Dean back into the family. Stan decides to help with this and tricks Dean into meeting Mick. Tuesday

Hour-long episode

It's the day of Lucy's funeral and Ian once again turns to a guilty Max for support, asking him to hand out the order of service at the church and to read over his eulogy.

Soon afterwards, Christian and Bobby arrive at the Beale house, but Ian is disappointed when he realises that Jane won't be coming. Libby also returns for the funeral and so does Cindy, who clashes with Ian when he instructs her to change her outfit. Standing firm, Cindy refuses and reminds Ian about his false alibi.

Later at the church, Max reluctantly agrees to help carry Lucy's coffin when Peter falters and is unable to do so. However, when Ian sees Max holding the coffin, he loses his cool as he has just found out about his fling with Lucy. Boiling with rage, Ian lashes out at Max in front of the congregation.

A furious Ian throws Max out of the church, just as Jane arrives. In the aftermath of the bombshell revelation about Max and Lucy, Ian struggles with his eulogy and leaves the church. This forces Peter to take over and he pays an emotional tribute to his late sister.

Later, back at the Beale house, Libby tells Denise that things have to change, convinced that Ian is still taking her for granted after he wouldn't let her travel to the funeral in the same car as the rest of the family. Unable to face the committal, Ian returns home to Denise where she decides to be honest with him...

Meanwhile, when Tamwar leaves the church, he spots a card that has slipped to the floor. To his shock, it reads "Rot in hell". Tamwar places it into his pocket before anyone else sees it.

Elsewhere, as the Carters try to get everything ready for the wake at The Vic, Dean decides to give Shirley a chance. However, their reunion is short lived when Shirley is preoccupied by Stan's meddling and Dean storms out.

Also today, Mick is still distracted by Stan and Tina's contradictory accounts of the past. Suspecting that Stan is lying, Mick asks him to leave. Stan fiercely insists that it wasn't him who tried to drown Mick as a child, but when Mick loses it and throws Stan into the bath, some shocking home truths are revealed…

Thursday

When Phil finds Shirley hungover outside The Arches, he takes her back to his place, which doesn't impress Sharon. Phil guesses that Shirley is in a state because of her strained relationship with Dean, so he goes to track him down to see if he can play peacemaker. In Phil's absence, Shirley and Sharon soon return to their old tricks by firing insults at each other.

Later, Phil finds Dean at his barber shop. Phil manages to get Dean to drop his guard and he actually listens to what Phil has to stay. Afterwards, Phil returns home to find Shirley alone with a bottle of wine. He tries to reassure her, but Shirley becomes emotional and storms out of the house with Phil chasing after her.

Meanwhile, Mick worries about Shirley's whereabouts.

Elsewhere, Carol cancels her hen party following recent events, but in an attempt to make amends, David organises a surprise "hen party afternoon" for her and the girls.

Also today, Liam's suspicions return over Nikki and David. When Nikki calls David's phone, Liam answers and gives her a warning.

Finally, Libby tries to persuade Denise to visit Chelsea with her in Spain.
