Neighbours will have a special schedule on Channel 5 on Easter Monday (April 21) as the show airs Kate Ramsay's shooting storyline.

UK viewers will see one of the most dramatic moments of the year later this month as Kate, played by Ashleigh Brewer, is shot at Lassiter's Lake on her birthday.

Final schedules released today have confirmed that Channel 5 is planning to mark the storyline with a special Easter Monday double bill on April 21.

The broadcaster will air the shooting in Neighbours' usual 5.30pm slot, but at 6.30pm the show will return with a first chance to see Kate's fate in the next episode.

The Neighbours double bill will also air on digital channel 5* at 7pm and 8pm that evening.

Neighbours' lunchtime screening on Easter Monday will remain a single showing at the earlier time of 12.45pm.

After airing at 6.30pm on April 21, the aftermath episode revealing the outcome for Kate will air again on Tuesday, April 22 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.

Digital Spy understands that Channel 5 has created the special schedule to celebrate the must-see storyline.

As with the 10pm screening for Toadie and Sonya's wedding day explosion last year, network bosses will be hoping to hook in new and returning viewers as Kate's shooting kicks off an action-packed few months in Erinsborough.

In the immediate fallout, Kate's fiancé Mark Brennan and uncle Paul Robinson will clash as they search for the perpetrator. The climax of this story will deliver a devastating shock for one long-standing character further on down the line.

The shooting also leads up to the returns of Doug and Pam Willis and the arrival of Daniel Robinson, who is the son of iconic characters Scott and Charlene.

Digital Spy can also confirm that the Channel 5 broadcasts of the shooting will be slightly different to those aired in Australia. While Neighbours has to adhere to its G-rating in its home country, the Channel 5 airings are not subject to the same restrictions.
