Home and Away's Chris Harrington will launch a desperate mission to help Leah Patterson-Baker when he learns that she needs a liver transplant.

Leah is seriously ill in hospital when doctors reveal that she needs a transplant urgently as her liver is failing.

The Summer Bay favourite's health scare comes after she eats a dangerous risotto served up by Chris (Johnny Ruffo), who has accidentally used death cap mushrooms as an ingredient.

Feeling terrible about his mistake, Chris raises awareness of Leah's condition among the local community and calls a town meeting to look for a suitable donor.

Ada Nicodemou, who plays Leah, told TV Week: "Leah's overwhelmed by everyone's warmth and willingness to be tested. It just goes to show how, in times of crisis, everyone in Summer Bay comes together."

While Leah's fate has yet to be revealed, one offer of help comes from Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher), who is still recovering after being poisoned by the risotto himself.

Nicodemou added: "Alf sees Leah as a bit of a daughter figure. They have always been really close and they've been through a lot. Leah's very touched that Alf wants to get tested. Of course, she would do the same for him."

Home and Away airs these scenes next week on Network Seven in Australia and May on Channel 5 in the UK.
