Mealing previously played the role of Connie on Casualty's sister show Holby City between 2004 and 2010.
Connie will now be joining the ED as a "demanding but fair" consultant.
Speaking last year, Mealing explained: "When the idea was first proposed I was surprised to say the least. Then when I heard some of the ideas for the character, I thought it was genius. I hope this will be as exciting for fans as it is for me."

Casualty's executive producer Oliver Kent added: "Connie's arrival in Casualty will really set the cat among the pigeons, not least with Ash and Zoe, who she will instantly upstage.
"I think what it will do is unlock a fun rivalry between Zoe and Connie. It will also put Ash in a very different place, and it will be the start of what we're seeing as Connie's year in the ED."
Casualty airs Connie's arrival on Saturday, March 29 at 9.20pm on BBC One.

Former Holby City star Amanda Mealing has revealed that she nearly turned down the chance to join Casualty.
The actress is reprising her role as Connie Beauchamp on the BBC One medical drama, having previously played the character on Casualty's sister show Holby City for six years.
Mealing said to Inside Soap: "I love Connie so was really sad to leave her behind in 2010 - but I had been working away from home for six-and-a-half years, and missed my children.
"When I first got the call from Casualty, I didn't think it was something I could do. The idea of being away from the family again was just too much.
"Then my husband suggested that we should all move to Cardiff together and make it an adventure - and I was over the moon. There was still so much with Connie and so many stories to tell. This has turned out to be the best thing ever."
Speaking about the reasons behind Connie's return to the hospital, Mealing said: "She realised she quite enjoyed the fight. And what bigger and better challenge than battling to revolutionise the ED?
"So she comes in with her personal agenda of just seeing how everything works, and then making a bid for leadership.
"She's on a mission to take over, and she doesn't care whose toes she has to step on to do it."
Casualty airs Connie's arrival on Saturday (March 29) at 9.10pm on BBC One.
29th March
Connie Beauchamp storms into the ED on her first day and soon makes an impression. Ignoring Zoe's instructions, she heads out with paramedics Jeff and Big Mac and is quickly climbing up a ladder to save a fugitive on the run from prison. But when the rescue attempt goes wrong, will Connie be able to hold her nerve?
Meanwhile, aware that his daughter has gotten into trouble yet again, Ash decides to take control of the situation by arranging for Ella to come and live with him.
Elsewhere, in the ED it soon becomes clear that the pressure of exams has led to a brother and sister taking to extreme measures to deliver the results their father wants.
