I'm really quite annoyed that Corrie's Maddie has been nominated as best newcomer! The character seems to be universally disliked, so the judges are totally out of touch with public opinion. This gives even more reason to keep her on as a long-term character

I hope EE's Nancy wins as she's by far the better actor and character of the two (I don't know the other characters nominated).

Me to!
Hollyoaks seem to have a lot of nominations but I can't see them beating Coronation Street espeically with the likes of Hayleys cancer storyline .

not such a good night for 3 of our soaps, ee getting 2, ed 1 and doctors sadly 0.

i did think ee would snatch best soap from corrie this year, i wonder how close the votes were, or whether hollyoaks was way ahead. i know there have been snide comments about multiple voting using different email accounts, but hasn't this always been the case with these awards.

i do have to smile though at hollyoaks taking best soap. i do dip in and out of oaks and it is very watchable, never dull or boring, a lot of the time ott, it rarely builds up to a story or climax, its full throttle, wham bam, thank you mam, but enjoyable all the same. it gives it viewers what it wants in spades. when you consider it is the fifth most watched soap in the uk, fans go orgasmic if the viewing figures go over a million, taking this into account this is a huge achievement by the chester based soap.

as for corrie i am pleased it did well with the hayley storyline, david and julie deserved their awards. it is telling though that the majority of corrie's awards were for the hayley storyline. it will be interesting to see how corrie fares in 12 months time.

there is a down side to corries triumph at these awards, it will make itv complacent, they may think everything is rosy in the garden and i have a sneaky feeling stuart (the hat) blackburn ain't going anywhere. this will not be good for the north west soap in the long run.

as for eastenders it's recovering from the last couple of years, it has been a lot better since November and i think come this time next year i am pretty sure will be wiping the board. however with the hollyoaks young fan base and multiple voting, we may see oaks keep winning the best soap award now.

as for emmerdale they deserved to win more as they had imo a better year than corrie. as for doctor's our fourth most watched soap, if we were voting on quality alone, this daytime soap would sweep the board.

in the scheme of things these awards are a bit of fun and mean bugger all. i am sure the status quo will remain the same. :)
