Hollyoaks will kill off a main character in a whodunit storyline next month, Digital Spy can confirm.

Show bosses are planning to reveal the identity of the unlucky victim this afternoon (Monday, March 17).

Fans will find out who is being murdered when Hollyoaks releases a dramatic new trailer which previews the soap's spring storylines.

First look footage of the plot will see police detective Sam Lomax tell her colleague Sonny Valentine that the body of one local resident has been found.

Hollyoaks' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood first hinted at the storyline late last year, promising a whodunit plot that would "leave residents mistrusting even the closest around them".

A Hollyoaks source told Digital Spy: "The village will be left not puzzled about who had a motive, but who didn't. Residents will be looking across the dinner table not knowing if they are sharing mealtimes with the person responsible."

Other storylines previewed in the trailer will include John Paul's upcoming judgement day in court and the tragic outcome of Sinead's suspicions over baby Katy's health.

Maxine Minniver will also be seen facing testing times as she fears that she is pregnant, while Ste Hay will be shown torching a car as he remains caught up in the darker side of life in the village.

Hollyoaks fans will be able to see the trailer on Digital Spy today after it is released at 3.30pm.

Local gangster Fraser has already upset many of the village's residents and will make enemies of several more in the build-up to his death.

A Hollyoaks source told Digital Spy: "The village will be left not puzzled about who had a motive, but who didn't. Residents will be looking across the dinner table not knowing if they are sharing mealtimes with the person responsible."

Birdsall joined the cast of Hollyoaks last summer as a new on-screen love interest for Sandy Roscoe.

A few weeks later, Fraser was revealed to be Trevor Royle's boss and the mastermind behind the recent criminal activity in the village.

Other revelations in Hollyoaks' spring trailer include the confirmation that Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan) will wake up from his coma in the near future.

The promo also includes footage of the tragic outcome of Sinead Roscoe's suspicions over baby Katy's health, John Paul McQueen's upcoming judgement day in court and Maxine Minniver's concern as she fears that she is pregnant.

Jessica Ellis as Tegan Lomax

With local detective Sonny Valentine (Aaron Fontaine) leading the investigation, he and his officers cause shockwaves by publicly arresting Tegan in the middle of the village.

What evidence the authorities have against Tegan remains to be seen, but her arrest will come as a surprise to many as she has always stayed loyal to Fraser.

New details revealed about the murder today (April 8) confirm that Fraser plans to flee the village in the build-up to his shock demise, realising that his luck may be about to run out.

Fraser invites Tegan to come with him alongside their baby daughter Rose, but his real plan is to snatch the youngster at the last minute and leave without Tegan.

Oblivious to Fraser's true intentions, Danny Lomax (Stephen Billington) confronts the villain and urges him not to take Tegan and Rose away. However, when Fraser responds by punching Danny, he adds yet another enemy to his list.

A Hollyoaks source told Digital Spy: "As well as the Roscoe family, there'll be a strong focus on the Lomax clan after Fraser's death as they all had a reason to want him gone."
