Kat continues to struggle with guilt following her recent decision and she wonders whether or not she should go through with giving the false evidence at Janine's trial. Alfie urges Kat not to go ahead with it, but she decides to carry on as planned following a discussion with Mo.

At the same time, Max has promised Carol that he will go to the court to support Alice on her behalf, but instead he sneaks off to see Stacey. Stacey asks Max to get Kat to change her mind, but Max lies to her by claiming that it is impossible. Max comforts Stacey, and as old feelings are rekindled between them, they share a passionate kiss. However, when Max returns from the bathroom, he finds that Stacey has fled.

Meanwhile, the trouble that Alfie had caused in Australia looks set to catch up with him when someone arrives looking for him.

Elsewhere, Ronnie takes Phil to visit Carl's brother Adam in hospital. Adam has been badly beaten.

Also today, Peter is surprised when he finds out that Lola has decided to set up on her own as a nail technician. Peter wrongly assumes that she is just doing it to fund a social care course, and Lola fails to correct him. However, when Jay realises what is going on, he encourages Lola to follow her dreams.

Tuesday

It's the day that Kat is due to give evidence in court. Alfie tries once again to talk Kat out of it, but Mo insists that she is doing the right thing and takes her to the court. At the same time, Stacey rushes to try to stop Kat, but as she does so, she comes face-to-face with Ronnie.

Later, Kat is oblivious to what has been going on and takes to the witness stand as planned. However, then a familiar face arrives…

Meanwhile, Shabnam tries to encourage Masood to start dating, pointing out that there are number of single suitable women in the area. However, Masood already has his eye on someone else.

Also today, Dot gets upset when the Walford residents seem uninterested in Nick's funeral.

EastEnders has confirmed one of this week's trial verdicts in a new preview clip.

Thursday's episode (March 20) will see the fates of Alice Branning and Janine Butcher revealed as judgment day arrives on the Walford soap.

Both women have been charged over Michael Moon's murder, but the new spoiler video shows that Alice is found not guilty. What will Janine's verdict be?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Janine Butcher departed EastEnders as a free woman in Thursday night's episode (March 20) after her murder trial ended with a not guilty verdict.

The latest edition of the soap was Charlie Brooks's final appearance as Janine for the foreseeable future following her decision to leave the show.

In a surprise twist, Janine made a last-minute decision to do the right thing at her trial, giving new evidence which cleared the name of her co-defendant Alice Branning.

Janine did so as her guilt was piqued when she learned that Alice had been rushed to hospital after trying to harm herself in prison.

The outcome of the trial saw the jury find both Alice and Janine not guilty, accepting that they had stabbed the late Michael Moon in self-defence.

While Alice was sent back from hospital to her mother's home, Janine decided to leave the country on a Eurostar train to France.

Janine's final moments hinted at more scheming to come, as she was visibly intrigued to meet a couple who had just won the lottery.

The future is looking more bleak for Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace), however, as she is facing potential perjury charges after lying for Janine in court.

In an interview earlier this month, Brooks confirmed that she wouldn't rule out another EastEnders return in the future.

She commented: "Never say never. I've loved my time on the show and loved playing Janine so I'd hate to think that I might never get to play her again, but it's time for a new challenge in my life."

EastEnders continues on Monday (March 24) at 8pm on BBC One.
