Steve Peacocke's long-term girlfriend Bridgette Sneddon is to join him on Home and Away.

Sneddon - who has dated the soap actor since they met at drama school eight years ago - has been cast as Summer Bay newcomer Sophie.

Her character "does have a connection to the Bay which brings her back", reports the Herald Sun.

It is still unknown how much airtime Sneddon will share with her boyfriend - who has played Darryl 'Brax' Braxton since 2011.

The 28-year-old said that she is "thrilled" to be joining Peacocke on the soap.

She said: "It's been odd not seeing each other in the last three years after working together so much (during drama school). I've just seen how much he loves his job and loves going up to Palm Beach.

"If he could do this job for the rest of his life, he'd be a happy man. He's just excited I get to experience that and likewise, I'm thrilled to be doing it."

Sneddon admitted that she is keen to be known for more than just being the girlfriend of her famous partner, and added that the couple enjoy their privacy.

She continued: "I never wanted to just be known as someone's girlfriend. I wanted to make my own mark, and he's respected that.

"We're very private people and most people respect that. At the end of the day we are in this to be actors. It's where our love came from, it's not about being celebrities."

Peacocke recently insisted that he was happy to stay on Home and Away for the foreseeable future, despite landing a supporting role in Hollywood movie Herecules.

Home and Away star Steve Peacocke has revealed that he doesn't think he will be sharing any scenes with fiancée Bridgette Sneddon.

It was announced last year that Sneddon would be joining the cast as Summer Bay newcomer Sophie Taylor.

However, Peacocke, who has played Brax since 2011, has said that their characters won't be crossing paths anytime soon.

Speaking to the Australian Daily Telegraph, Peacocke said: "I've been on the show for three years or something now, and there's still people that I've never had a scene with.

"It looks like it is going to be that way with Bridgett's character and my character. They have different storylines."

Peacocke and Sneddon have been together since 2005, meeting while they were working together in drama school.

They became engaged in 2013, but the news has only just been officially confirmed by Peacocke.

Speaking about the happy news, Peacocke explained: "I just always thought it's better to keep all that kind of stuff private for us. It happened last year, so yeah, we are engaged."

Home and Away newcomer Sophie is hiding a dark secret from former husband Nate Cooper that could rock their rekindled romance.

As previously reported, Nate will decide that he wants to give his relationship with Sophie another try, following her unexpected arrival in Summer Bay.

Although Sophie (Bridgette Sneddon) is initially reluctant about a reunion, she soon agrees and the pair go on their first official date at Angelo's.

However, it soon becomes apparent that Sophie is hiding a secret that will reveal more about Nate's past.

Kyle Pryor, who plays Nate, said to TV Week: "Sophie and Nate press each other's buttons and he can't deny his attraction to her. When Sophie came back into his life, those memories came flooding back.

"Sophie has a dark past and it'll reveal more about Nate's background and the reason for him coming back to the Bay in the first place."

Home and Away's Sophie Taylor will collapse after overdosing on pills in an upcoming storyline.

The dramatic turn of events happens after Nate Cooper (Kyle Pryor) finally tells Sophie (Bridgette Sneddon) that their relationship is over.

Having previously caught Nate kissing Hannah, Sophie desperately tries to get her troubled marriage back on track.

After Ricky tells Nate to do the right thing and end things for good, Nate comes clean with Sophie and says their marriage is no longer working.

However, Nate is horrified to later find Sophie collapsed on the floor next to a bottle of empty pills and immediately rushes her to hospital.

Pryor told TV Week: "Part of him wants to stick by Sophie and make the marriage work. But Nate is resigned to the fact that it is just not going to work. They keep rehashing problems from the past."

I wouldn't be averse to that happening, although it would be sad to see Nate wracked with guilt.

If Sophie does die then that will leave the way clear for the Doc and Hannath to become a couple.
I bet Zac will be made Principal of Summer Bay High in the wake of Sophie's death.
I`d be overjoyed if former headmaster Donald Fisher paid a visit to the school, but I doubt if that will ever happen.

Also ahead on Summer Bay, Sophie Taylor's erratic behaviour continues as she resorts to desperate measures to get her estranged husband Nate Cooper's attention.

Still struggling to accept that her marriage to Nate is over, Sophie (Bridgette Sneddon) begins to concern those around with her increasingly odd and unsettling behaviour.

Ricky (Bonnie Sveen) worries that Sophie is stalking Nate, and he later opens up to Ricky and confesses that the last time he ended their relationship, she tried to run him over.

However, Sophie's odd behaviour steps up a gear when Nate checks into the caravan park and she subsequently decides to rent a van of her own.

When she hears Nate arrive home at night, Sophie resorts to extreme measures and splashes petrol around her van and sets it alight.

Hearing his wife's screams and seeing the van on fire, Nate risks his life trying to save her, but will they both manage to escape unharmed?

Home and Away star Bridgette Sneddon has discussed her exit from the show for the first time.

It was announced over the weekend that Sneddon, who has played Sophie Taylor since last year, will be bowing out of the Australian soap. Her husband Steve Peacocke is also leaving.

While Peacocke's character Brax will remain on screen for the majority of the year, Sneddon has already filmed her final scenes, which will air in Australia this week.

Discussing her exit, Sneddon told TV Week: "I'm excited about the future. I had a lot of fun playing out Sophie's journey.

"The highs, the lows and the downright crazy - it was such an incredible ride for me personally. I guess there is nothing like leaving with a bang.

"I learnt more in the nine months on Home and Away about acting than in any other job or acting class I've done. As an actor, you have two options - sink or swim. I just kept swimming."

Sneddon also admitted that she loved having the opportunity to work in the same show as Peacocke.

She said: "He's such a great actor so I love any chance I get to work with him. We've worked together lots before."

Over on Home and Away a dramatic week of episodes will air this month as several of the Summer Bay residents are caught up in a terrifying bus crash.

The dramatic plot kicks off after an unstable Sophie (Bridgette Sneddon) holds her husband Nate (Kyle Pryor) hostage in her hotel room.

Although Nate tells Sophie that she needs urgent help and treatment, she sees the opportunity to further restrain him and whacks him over the head with a heavy object.

Later, Nate wakes up to find that his wrists are bound, and Sophie is now pouring petrol around the room. As Nate struggles to reason with her, she tells him that she wants them to be together forever and starts pacing the room with a lit candle.

Nate begs Sophie to let him go, telling her that he loves her, but Sophie doesn't believe him. As Nate becomes more desperate, Sophie asks Nate to prove it.

However, when Nate is unable to be affectionate with Sophie, it is the final straw for her and she starts pouring petrol over the room.

Desperate, Nate tells her that they will run away together, prompting Sophie to blow out the candle. As they finally leave the motel room and get in the car, Sophie is oblivious that they are actually heading back to Summer Bay.

Meanwhile, several of the Bay's residents are getting ready to go to Phoebe's music launch in the city, including Evie, despite Josh's eagerness to reconcile with her.

As Evie and Denny board the bus along with Hannah, Leah, Kyle, Sasha and a pregnant Ricky, Brax decides to drive Josh to the city so he can speak to Evelyn properly.

With Sophie and Nate heading in the opposite direction, the reality dawns on Sophie that Nate is taking her back to Summer Bay and not on the runaway romance that she thought.

Furious, Sophie starts screaming hysterically and opens the passenger door, trying to escape. Although Nate urges her to stop, her behaviour is too out of control for him to handle and she grabs the wheel, causing Nate to swerve into the incoming lane.

As the car races towards the bus, the bus driver is forced to veer off the road and the bus tips over, rolling several times before coming to a stop. Will anyone get out unharmed?

Also ahead on Summer Bay, Sophie Taylor finally realises that she needs to leave Nate Cooper behind as she faces up to the consequences of her actions.

Sophie (Bridgette Sneddon) was responsible for causing the devastating road incident after her erratic behaviour caused Nate (Kyle Pryor) to lose control of his vehicle.

As the reality of what she has done starts to sink in, Sophie wanders around the hospital crying as she watches the calamity she has caused.

Later, Nate gets a call from Sophie asking him to meet her at the beach but when he turns up, Sophie tells him that she has called the police and told them that she was responsible for the accident.

Nate persuades her to seek psychological help, explaining that she wasn't thinking straight at the time but as the police arrive to take Sophie away, she tells Nate that she's not his problem anymore.
