Neighbours is planning to introduce the son of iconic couple Scott and Charlene Robinson, who were played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue.

Daniel Robinson has been referred to in episodes over the years, but has never been seen on screen. The character, now in his early 20s, will return to Erinsborough next year to see where his parents fell in love.

Neighbours' series producer Jason Herbison said: "Charlene and Scott are the quintessential love story who have the happy ending. More than 25 years on, they are still remembered worldwide.

"It is fantastic that we can re-open this chapter of Neighbours' history for a new generation of viewers."

Daniel will be introduced to his uncle Paul, played by Stefan Dennis - the only remaining cast member to have appeared on screen with Minogue and Donovan.

Dennis joked: "It really is a significant piece of Neighbours' colourful past and let's face it, the kid could not have come from a better gene pool."

Minogue and Donovan appeared on the soap from 1986 to 1989.

Neighbours producer Jason Herbison has revealed that the ongoing process to find someone to play Scott and Charlene's son has become the "biggest casting call in years".

It was announced last year that the show was planning to introduce Daniel Robinson, the now adult son of the couple.

Speaking to TV Week, Herbison said: "We are in the middle of our biggest casting call in years to try to find the actor. We are looking at all kind of possibilities.

"Since it was announced, we've been approached by so many actors wanting to be in the mix. There is a chance it might be someone we have already seen. But I don't think we will go with someone who already has a huge profile. At this stage, we are looking for that young, up-and-coming star of tomorrow."

Herbison also admitted that introducing the character is a huge risk, but believes that now is the right time as the show heads towards its 30th anniversary.

He said: "We don't know a great deal about him. When it came to us deciding to bring in the character, we felt we were in a position to start with a blank canvas. Timing is everything. Daniel will arrive at a time when his uncle Paul needs someone in his life.

"We also felt it was a nice thing considering we are heading to our 30th anniversary. So, it would be good to bring in a character who has a connection to Scott and Charlene."

Scott and Charlene were played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue between 1986 and 1989.

Neighbours bosses have confirmed the airdate for Daniel Robinson's first episode.

Daniel, who is the son of iconic Ramsay Street couple Scott and Charlene Robinson, will first appear on screen in Australia on Tuesday, April 29.

As episodes on Channel 5 are currently airing two weeks behind the Australian broadcasts, UK fans will get their first glimpse of Daniel on Tuesday, May 13.

Show chiefs haven't announced the actor who is playing Daniel as they are planning an on-air reveal when the episode airs in Australia.

Daniel is now in his early 20s and visits Erinsborough to see where his parents fell in love. His first scenes see him meet his uncle Paul Robinson, played by Stefan Dennis.

Described as a "happy-go-lucky, hippie-at-heart nature boy", Daniel Robinson will drop in on his uncle Paul (Stefan Dennis) during a road trip south, according to The Australian.

"He's not coming in with dark secrets, he's not coming in with baggage, he's just happy to be alive and soaking up life," Phillipps explained.

"He sees everything in a really positive way and it's really nice doing that every day because that flows into your real life as well. You can carry that attitude home."

The 26-year-old actor appeared on the show back in 2007 as a figment of Paul's imagination following a brain tumour.

Scott and Charlene were played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue in the 1980s.

Neighbours star Tim Phillipps has revealed that his character Daniel Robinson will be "light" and "positive".

Australian viewers have been introduced to Daniel this week when he turned up in Erinsborough in search of Paul, who is his uncle. He will be seen on UK screens from early May.

Daniel is the son of iconic couple Scott and Charlene and has joined the soap as a new regular character.

Speaking on Light FM radio with presenters Lucy and Kel, Phillips revealed that Daniel will be a good influence on Paul.

When asked if his character would be a 'bad boy', Phillips said: "No, quite the opposite. The idea was for him to come in and be light and positive and hopefully the storylines are similar to that.

"He is trying to be a good influence on old uncle Paul and that sort of thing."

Viewers know that Paul (Stefan Dennis) has faced a difficult time in recent weeks after his niece Kate Ramsay was shot dead.

Dennis recently revealed that he was closely involved in the casting process for the role of Daniel.

Neighbours welcomes Scott and Charlene's son to the cast on UK screens next week as Daniel Robinson turns up in Erinsborough unexpectedly.

Fun-loving and care-free, Daniel is an instant hit with many of the locals but there could be drama to come as he develops feelings for Amber Turner and constantly rubs Imogen Willis up the wrong way.

Digital Spy recently chatted to Tim Phillipps, who plays Daniel, to hear what's ahead for his character.

How's it been going at Neighbours?
"Fantastic - I'm loving it. I have been there about three months now."

We've heard that you worked with Stefan Dennis in the casting process for the role of Daniel. What was that like?
"The whole process was really nice. When I was actually approached about the role, I had done a self-tape from Sydney which I sent out to Melbourne. I was on my way home at Christmas and by the time I had landed in Adelaide, they asked me to come to Melbourne to meet the producers and do a chemistry read with Stefan Dennis.

"A couple of days later, I was offered the role. So for me, it all happened really quickly."

What has it been like working so closely with Stefan?
"It's been fantastic. I worked with him in Neighbours before about six or seven years ago. Working with him again now is really awesome because before, I only had seven episodes and it was my first acting job ever. It is so nice to be able to work with him all these years later, day in and day out. We can really relax into the relationship and do some good work together."

What memories do you have of your previous Neighbours stint as Fox?
"Really fond ones. Again, I was working with Stefan and he is so great to work with. It was my first job ever, and it was an absolutely mind-blowing experience to know that I was going to be on Neighbours - a show that I was still a big fan of and currently watching. It was a real buzz."

How would you describe Daniel?
"He is a laid-back surfer dude who is a bit of a hippy as well. He is easy-going, care-free and positive."

Paul and Daniel are reunited

What is his relationship like with Paul?
"It's a really good one and there is a lot of family love. Paul is really excited to have Daniel in town and Daniel is really pumped to be seeing Paul.

"I think Daniel is really happy to just be settled for a while because he is road-tripping. Paul has been grieving over Kate's death, so they are a really good match for each other right now. Their relationship is really strong."

Do you think Daniel can help Paul with his grief for Kate?
"Yes, that is his intention. He will definitely try to help Paul with his grief. He also wants to help Paul become a better person because in Daniel's eyes, he is a bit nasty to people which he thinks is unnecessary."

Daniel starts working at Lassiter's. Is this something he enjoys, or is he just doing it to please Paul?
"He is just doing it to please Paul. Daniel will always pick up shifts here and there while he is travelling just to pay his way, but the Lassiter's job is more to keep Paul happy. He doesn't like the job, he doesn't like the uniform and he doesn't like the restriction. He is too care-free to work somewhere like that."

What is coming up for him and Amber? We know he develops feelings for her, but is there a chance those could be returned?
"I knew Digital Spy was going to ask me this because I've been reading your articles! Daniel is very loving towards everybody and him and Amber share a passion for photography so they spend a lot of time together. There is a really nice friendship going on there and a really nice bond."

Could this cause tension with Josh as a result?
"It does cause tension with Josh and that comes up relatively soon when they start hanging out. I think Daniel is able to put Josh at ease, though. Josh is obviously keen to keep Amber and he is going to be disappointed and annoyed if someone is trying to make a move on her. So I think Daniel really puts him at ease with his intentions and feelings towards her."

There is also a spark between Daniel and Imogen. Could this go anywhere?
"Something could happen there. Imogen gets into twists and gets very worked up about things and Daniel just doesn't get it. He finds it really funny and thinks that Imogen is super sweet. He doesn't get why she finds stuff so frustrating, but he really loves that about her as well."

How does it feel to be playing the son of two of Neighbours' most iconic characters? Do you hope Kylie or Jason could come back?
"It's awesome. It's really, really cool. It is so nice to be a Robinson because they are the longest-running last name on that show and it's so nice to be put into that umbrella of characters. It's also awesome to be the son of two of the biggest names in Neighbours. It's a real privilege to be a Robinson and to be Scott and Charlene's son. I would love Kylie and Jason to come back."

Have the producers told you much about their long-term plans for Daniel?
"Yeah, it sounds like there are some really cool things coming up. For Daniel, his biggest qualities are also his biggest downfalls. He is so loving and he can become head over heels for people so I think more details about him, his relationships and past are going to come to the surface. I am not really sure what they have planned at the moment, but I am excited to find out what his backstory really is."

You worked in the US before joining Neighbours. How was that experience?
"It was really good. I was fortunate enough to work on a range of different things from movies, to network television, to a video game."

How does it feel to be back working in Australia again?
"I'm really happy. I was pleased to come home for a while just to absorb my home life and to be back with the footy, family and friends and all those things that make up who you are.

"I was so keen to come home and before I had even landed in my home town, I already had a trip booked to Melbourne to meet the producers of Neighbours. Before I had even settled back down in Australia, I was already fortunate enough to get this role so it really was a great time of year."

Also ahead on Ramsay Street, young couple Amber Turner and Daniel Robinson take drastic measures to be together after their families continue to object to their engagement.

Still struggling with their own issues, Matt and Lauren realise they need to form a united front in order to dissuade Amber (Jenna Rosenow) and Daniel (Tim Phillipps) from their marriage plans.

However, the discussion is quickly derailed when Amber realises that her parents are faking their interest in her wedding plans so they can talk her out of it.

Amber is quick to point out their hypocrisy, pointing out that Matt proposed to Lauren almost as soon as he met her - before telling her parents she is moving into the penthouse with Daniel.

Concerned about their daughter, Lauren and Matt speak to Paul who later confronts the couple, telling Amber that she can't move in.

Daniel is furious by Paul's treatment of Amber, telling his uncle that he and Amber will be together forever.

Affirming his point, Daniel and Amber decide to address the tension around where they will live by moving into Daniel's car together.

As Daniel and Amber happily tell each other as long as they are together it doesn't matter where they live, their families are forced to face up to the fact that they might have pushed them too far...

Trouble in paradise
Amber and Daniel's engagement faces a new test as his ex-girlfriend arrives in Erinsborough.

Amber and Daniel might have survived the terrifying tornado but a new storm is brewing in the form of Daniel’s ex-girlfriend, Rain. Played by gorgeous newcomer Airlie Dodds, Rain is fun, vivacious and charismatic – and she’s about to wreak havoc on Daniel (Tim Phillipps) and Amber’s (Jenna Rosenow) blissfully happy relationship.

Rain arrives in Erinsborough temporarily homeless, after the community where she and Daniel used to live together, Eden, has shut down. So Rain is looking for a site to establish New Eden and Erinsborough looks like the perfect place to do it.

On the surface, Rain is a pleasant and likable person but her manipulative streak soon comes to the fore. Despite Daniel’s claims that he and Rain are past history, it’s quite clear that Rain still has a strong hold over her former love.

“She is a shades of grey character because some of her actions are quite justified but then others are so wrong,” Dodds explains. Rain is Airlie’s first major television role and she couldn’t be more chuffed to be working with the Neighbours cast, in particular Stefan Dennis (Paul). “Stefan has been very reassuring and encouraging, particularly in scenes where my character takes him on,” Dodds says.

While Daniel is seemingly powerless to resist Rain’s charms, Amber is very wary of the newcomer. If Rain thinks she can just waltz back into Daniel’s life and lure him away from Amber, she’s got a nasty surprise coming her way.

Neighbours' Daniel Robinson will attempt to rekindle his relationship with Amber Turner later this month after they hit the rocks.

The reconciliation attempt comes as Amber and Daniel both keep secrets from each other. While Daniel keeps quiet after Imogen attempts to kiss him, Amber also keeps Daniel in the dark after her ex-boyfriend Josh admits that he is still in love with her.

Daniel (Tim Phillips) will return from Queensland following some time away, but it is obvious that he hasn't recovered from his break-up with Amber (Jenna Rosenow).

After turning to Imogen Willis (Ariel Kaplan) for support, Daniel is full of praise for Paul for all the support he has given him through this difficult time.

However, Daniel is shocked when Imogen reveals that Paul has been up to no good with Gary Canning, and later finds himself going to Amber for comfort following a run-in with his uncle.

Deciding to take this opportunity to rekindle their romance, Daniel tries to kiss Amber but is devastated when she rebuffs his advances.

Neighbours continues to mark its 30th anniversary on UK screens this month with Daniel Robinson taking centre stage in the on-screen celebrations.

Daniel is preparing to marry his girlfriend Amber Turner (Jenna Rosenow), but disaster strikes when he gets stuck down a well with Imogen Willis on the day of the ceremony. Just prior to the incident, Daniel also learns that Imogen (Ariel Kaplan) has been secretly in love with him for a long time.

Here, Tim Phillipps - who plays Daniel - chats to Digital Spy about a potential romance for Daniel and Imogen, why he is backing that pairing, and how there is a darker plot ahead for his character.

How do you feel about being such a big part of the Neighbours anniversary with Daniel and Amber's wedding?
"It's great. When I first joined Neighbours, I never considered being here for the 30th. It just didn't really register with me. Obviously they wanted a wedding to tie in with the episodes and that is what is happening. I only ever put pressure on myself as an actor to do a good job anyway."

The anniversary has seen lots of past characters return briefly. Has this created an excitement on set?
"Yeah, although there were actually some people who I didn't see at all. Stefan and I worked with Paul Keane who plays Des Clarke, so that was good. Nell Feeney who plays Janelle was also great. Stephanie McIntosh (Sky Mangel) also did a Skype chat from LA too, so she didn't actually come over to Australia. It was really cool seeing some familiar faces and I watched it as a kid so it was just great."

You have been in the show for over a year now. Do you feel you have completely settled in?
"It's funny because there is such a fast turnover at Neighbours and four or five people must have left in the time I have been here, as well as several new people joining. Apart from the four absolute veterans like Karl, Susan, Toadie and Paul, I am almost riding up the ranks now. Heaps of people are leaving soon as well, so us newer ones will be the top dogs. It is a bit like school where you rise up and all of a sudden you are in Year 12. It's cool."

Do you think Daniel and Amber are actually suited as a couple?
"They got together whilst she was with someone else and I think any relationship that starts like that is destined not to work. I don't think that is a nice way to start a relationship with someone, so I think perhaps they aren't suited.

"Also, they are very easygoing people and I am not sure if that creates the best sparks. For instance, with Paige and Brennan, she is more the bad girl and he is the cop and that is a cool match. Whereas Amber is almost as airy fairy as Daniel and I don't know if that is the best. I think there has been a lot of love towards Daniel and Imogen and that makes more sense. She is so uptight and disciplined, but that is funny to Daniel and there is a more interesting dynamic there."

Would you like Daniel and Imogen to get together? And do you think it is likely that they could?
"I would like them to because it is what audience seems to want and there is no point in denying that. I think it is likely - anything is likely on soaps. I think it could happen."

Do you find that fans are rooting for Daniel and Amber or Daniel and Imogen?
"I don't tend to really look into anything - I just do the job. But the general impression I get is that people want Daniel and Imogen. I don't see much support for Daniel and Amber. I tend to see more of an Amber and Josh trend, and for a while I didn't like seeing that. I know people want to see Daniel with Imogen, but he is with Amber so it isn't the easiest thing to see fans rooting for Amber to be with another guy!"

Why do you think fans have not backed Amber and Daniel?
"They are both romantic characters and I think that has put people off a bit because they are so 'lovey-dovey'. People just don't want to see that. They are watching a soap and these characters are so lovey-dovey with each other, especially after their tricky start. I just don't think their relationship hit the nail on the head."

Do you think Daniel and Amber rushed into getting married?
"Yes I do. It was mainly because the producers wanted it to suit the timing of the 30th and so they had to accelerate that for us and we just had to play it. I think more of an ideal scenario for them would be if the 30th was in a year's time, but we rolled with it anyway."

What was it like filming the scenes where Daniel and Imogen are stuck down the well?
"It was really great. They built a set for the well which was this really cool square and it meant they could actually put a camera on the fourth wall on and have the camera guy there with us. It was cool as it felt as if you were in this really small space. I was so glad I was working with Ariel Kaplan down there - she was awesome to work with.

"Ariel really gave it her all and the director of that plot was Scott Major, who used to play Lucas, and I have got to know him really well. When he was with us down the well, he spent so much time on the actors and where we were at emotionally so that was really nice. Sometimes it is in the nature of Neighbours to not work so much on the emotion with the director because there isn't time and normally we have it under control. But for this big, important plot, Scott was really hands on and it was awesome."

Can you tell us what happens while he is down in the well with Imogen?
"Well Imogen obviously has these feelings for Daniel and they do discuss it down there. He finds out about it before they go down the well, but in true Daniel fashion, he just takes it on board and keeps on going. They discuss it more in the well but poor little Imogen gets let down gently yet again. He is distraught for Amber though and the idea of her thinking he has jilted her. It is eating away at him but they do eventually get discovered by Josh and get saved, so I do still have a job!"

Were you disappointed that Kylie and Jason didn't return for the 30th?
"Not really because I didn't think they would. It would have been tricky for them. I understand because they have been out of the show for such a long time and they keep getting asked. It could have been one of those things where they went 'yeah, let's do it' and that would have been incredible, but I wasn't surprised as I never thought they would anyway. It would have been incredible but if they chose not to then that is totally fine."

Daniel will obviously have his parents missing at the wedding. How will that weave into the story?
"It will weave into the story fairly seamlessly [laughs], but you can be the judge of that."

What was it like working closely with Ian Smith, who plays Harold?
"Amazing. I don't know what the next two years have in store, but I know that will always be the highlight of my time there."

Harold is greeted by his friends and family
© Channel 5
Harold is greeted by his friends and family

Daniel is a really nice guy, but would you like to explore a darker side to him?
"Yes I would and for the last few episodes I have filmed, we have been exploring a much darker side to him. This is very advanced for the UK but we are doing stuff at the moment where we find out that Daniel has a bullying past. This is really cool and it explains why he is so good now. He just decided one day that he doesn't want to be this guy because he saw how it was affecting people, so he became ultra good.

"The plan from my point of view is to try and meet somewhere in the middle and not always be so good and maybe have a bit of Paul Robinson in him. If it works, they said they would write more stuff for me like that, so we shall see."

There is a big tragedy coming up that will affect Amber. Will Daniel be able to support her?
"Yes he will. He's a saint like that. He is very, very generous emotionally so he will be very supportive. But I think due to the nature of the soap, the producers and writers do listen to the audience and there is just such a demand for Daniel and Imogen to be together. Personally as an actor, I can't see how they wouldn't try and write that in."

As we speak, you are currently in the UK. Are you enjoying being over here?
"It is my first time here and I love it. I could move here. It is a bit more special for fans when they see us over here as well. When they see us in Australia, it's one thing, but when they see us over here, it is a bit more of a surprise as we have come from Australia and they are shocked to see us."

Can you tell us how long are you planning to stay on the show?
"Definitely for another year and then another year after that. I am more than happy here."

Neighbours couple Daniel Robinson and Amber Turner will reach the end of the road after a romantic gesture puts the final nail in the coffin for their relationship.

Daniel (Tim Phillipps) and Amber once believed they were soulmates, but their romance has become strained since the revelation that Amber's ex-boyfriend Josh Willis is the father of her unborn baby.

When Daniel starts to miss the happier times he shared with Amber (Jenna Rosenow), he makes a last-ditch attempt to get things back on track by organising a grand gesture to impress her.

Daniel puts together a love-heart montage of all the good times they've had together in the past, but his efforts backfire when the photos only make them realise just how much things have changed in recent months.

Finally accepting that their relationship is broken and can't be repaired, Daniel and Amber shock their loved ones by deciding to cut their losses and split up.

A Neighbours insider teased: "The break-up could be good news for Willis twins Josh and Imogen, as they both still have strong feelings for Amber and Daniel respectively. Will either of them get the outcome they've been longing for?"

Neighbours airs these scenes next week on Eleven in Australia and mid-July on Channel 5 in the UK.

Having been struggling in the wake of his split with Amber, Daniel is pleased to escape his troubles for a day and starts to see Imogen in a whole new light as they gently mock each other on their different perspectives on life.

He's usually the most upbeat guy in Erinsborough, but Neighbours star Tim Phillipps has teased that future storylines will explore a fiercer side to his character Daniel Robinson.

Life hasn't been easy for Daniel in recent months as his relationship with Amber Turner hit the rocks, but this paves the way for him to develop a new romance with Imogen Willis.

Speaking of his character's future, Phillipps told Inside Soap: "I'm really pleased with the storylines that are coming up for Daniel. He's always been such a bright and cheery character, but he's had knock after knock recently and he's finally reaching a point where he's standing up for himself.

"He's also about to get together with Imogen - there's a lot of love from the audience for those two!"

Phillipps was interviewed by the magazine to promote his nomination for Best Daytime Star at the Inside Soap Awards 2015.

The actor is up for the prize alongside his Neighbours castmates Jackie Woodburne (Susan), Olympia Valance (Paige) and Stefan Dennis (Paul), as well as stars from Home and Away and Doctors.

He added: "I've never been nominated for anything before. This is a first for me, so it's actually really exciting! I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here on Neighbours. It's great to be able to come into work and do what I love every day, and I'm really starting to feel comfortable in my surroundings here."

No love from me Tim LOL

I've got plenty of love for Daniel and Imogen! :p

That disloyal wet rag Amber was nowhere near good enough for the lovely Daniel. I hope he and Imogen make it as a couple.

Congratulations to Tim for being nominated for best daytime star. I think he really deserves it. (Congrats to Jackie, Stefan and Olympia too.)

I wish soaps wouldn't give in to the majority of fans, like with this romance between Daniel and Imogen. Makes it so hard to believe.

The writers aren't giving into fans. Daniel and Imogen have obviously always been the end game.

When he first came to Erinsborough, it was Imogen who took an instant dislike to him (that old soap cliche of hate at first sight) but gradually grew to love him and has been devoted to him ever since.

Nobody has backed Daniel and Amber - not their families, friends, Madge and Harold, or even Amber herself (she's been ridiculously fickle and disloyal - remember how she took a break because she couldn't decide between Josh and Daniel, and then went back to the latter because he just happened to be in the right place at the right time? :wall:).

She lost absolutely no time in being unfaithful to him after his very out-of-character disappearance. She didn't trust him one little bit. That is not the action of someone who's truly in love.

Paul's right that Daniel thinks every time he has feelings for someone they're "the one", and Amber is just another in a long line. Will Imogen be? Who knows, but I do know they've got a lot more chemistry than he and Amber. I am slightly worried it's a rebound thing on his part at the moment, but I'm hopeful he'll grow to truly love the woman who's been his rock through all his recent troubles.

I hardly ever feel so strongly about couples in soaps, particulary teens, but I've hated every moment of the Daniel and Amber relationship because she so obviously didn't deserve him.

I don't think Daniel and Imogen were the end game, it's just because Amber's leaving. Really loved Imogen with Daniel tbh. They seemed to have lots of fun together.

Amber is not leaving for a long while yet. Jenna finishes filming at the end of the year and will be on screen till March/April next year.

Down and out
Daniel's desire to help people ends in disaster when he's knocked unconscious.

Desperate to give Off Air a radical edge, Daniel comes up with an idea to boost sales and create a point of difference. His charitable plan backfires when one customer takes things too far.

While Daniel (Tim Phillipps) is convinced a suspended coffee scheme is the way to go, Karl (Alan Fletcher) can't help but voice his frustrations about the idea.

"People come in and they order a hot beverage," Daniel explains. "They buy two - one for themselves and one for someone who can't afford it. We keep a tally of the hot beverages given and we mark them off as we hand them out!"

Karl thinks it's a bad idea. "I'm all for helping, as long as we don't suffer," he says to Daniel.

As Karl predicted, Daniel is not only giving away free beverages, he's handing out free grub to one patron who's down on his luck.

"Daniel, we can't afford to give away free food," Karl pleads.

Daniel replies, "Have you ever heard that saying 'Be the difference you want to see in the world?' Well, this is me putting my money where my mouth is."

When Daniel is locking up for the night, the homeless man he's been charitable towards viciously lashes out at him!

The vagrant misinterprets Daniel's friendly gesture and lashes out violently.

"Don't touch me!" he yells, before punching the unsuspecting young business owner hard in the face.

Realising what he's done, the homeless man quickly takes off, leaving poor Daniel alone and out cold on the floor of the cafe.

Will anyone come to his rescue?

In two weeks' time!

I actually forgot about Karl being a part-owner of off-air.....

Heard about these "suspended coffee" schemes (didn't know that's what they were called). Actually think it's a nice idea and there's a place near me that did this (don't know if it's still going).

I want to know what Piper's secret is!

Bursting the bubble
Nate and Sheila are caught up in Daniel's desperate bid to impress with his business acumen.

To Imogen's amazement, the normally casual and carefree Daniel has taken on the persona of a strong-willed, high-flying business in his new role as an estate agent selling Paul's new Freestyle Estate properties.

As Paul is faced with increasing financial difficulties, Daniel feels pressured to forge as many sales as he can and soon zeros in on Nate as a potential homebuyer. When Nate wavers on making the purchase, Daniel gives him the incentive to buy by mentioning that the estate will feature a fully-equipped recreation area and outdoor pool.

However, Daniel's elation at Nate's decision to buy into the estate is suddenly deflated when he learns that Paul's money woes have now precipitated the cancellation of the recreation and pool areas.

Despite Imogen's plea to tell Nate the truth before he signs the sales contract, Daniel opts to keep quiet, praying that Nate will accept the change in plans.

To Daniel's horror, Imogen exposes the truth to Nate who angrily pulls out of the sale. As a result, an agitated Daniel takes out his anger on Imogen, fiercely rebuking her for her interference.

Shocked by Daniel's hardline business tactics, Imogen attacks Daniel's uncharacteristic fervour for a career path that will never be fulfilling, especially with the ruthless Paul Robinson as his boss.

As Daniel and Imogen hit a relationship crossroads, Paul's worsening financial situation suddenly impacts Sheila when Paul decides to sell her home, number 26, to pay his huge tax bill. Although the news rocks Sheila, Amy and Kyle give her food for thought when they suggest she look into buying the house herself.

Excited at the prospect of being a homeowner, Sheila gets confirmation from the bank that she qualifies for a home loan but her real estate bubble bursts when she hears of Daniel's recent property-selling exploits.

Learning from Nate that Kyle recently expressed interest in buying a Freestyle property from Daniel, Sheila is aghast to think that Kyle wants his own place which will leave her with a huge mortgage to pay and no ongoing rental income from him to support her.

Assuming that she's about to be abandoned by her own grandson, Sheila takes out her anger on a perplexed Kyle, fearing that her housing dreams are about to be ruined before they've even started.

It's a Neighbours rule that if you hang around Paul Robinson for long enough, you'll probably turn into a bit of a sod. Now it's the turn of his good-natured nephew Daniel, who's one to watch in 2016 as he starts sporting a new look, a new attitude and turns his back on some of those New Age hippy ideals.

The Ramsay Street residents are shocked next month when Daniel becomes much more cut-throat and career-driven after starting work at Lassiters, but is his old self still in there somewhere? Tim Phillipps, who plays Daniel, explains all here in a chat with Digital Spy.

How do you feel about Daniel becoming more ruthless next year?

"I think it's an important change that had to happen for Daniel's development. He's always been a positive person, and I don't think that goes away in this storyline.

"But Daniel has been under Paul's guidance for a long time now. It's made him start to understand some really important life messages about how sometimes you've got to take more risks, be more ruthless and push a little harder. It's all part of Daniel's evolution as a character."

Neighbours always seem really open to ideas from the cast. Did you push the writers in this direction?

"Yeah, I think so. A while ago I spoke to one of the head writers and asked for Daniel to have a bit more status in the community. It's all very well wanting to set up communes and do everything for positive reasons, but I wanted to man him up a bit. The best way to do that was by giving Daniel some career ambition. That gains him a bit of respect from people, I think."

Do you think the fans will miss the 'goody two shoes' Daniel?

"I think they'll find him more interesting to watch now, to be honest. For anybody who likes Daniel's good-natured qualities, they're all still there in the long-run. There is a little patch where his morals start to be questioned, but in general he's still the same positive guy. He's just got a little bit more toughness now."

Daniel shocks the locals early in the New Year by shaving all his hair off. Was that a sacrifice you made for the storyline?

"I really wanted to do it for myself, so the writers added it into the scripts as part of the storyline. It actually ties in really well with everything that's going on with Daniel in the next few months."

His new career is working at the Lassiters hotel, isn't it?

"Yeah, once things have fallen apart with the real estate, Daniel needs to find a new direction. He decides to go back into the hotel business because he's managed to pick up the ropes from Paul and wants to make a real go of it this time."

Would you like Daniel to become a mini-Paul?

"I would love that, but I don't think Daniel is ever going to do the awful things that Paul does. I'd love him to be a crusader, but a good and honest one who brings down the bad people. That's almost the opposite of Paul, but I want him to be as strong-willed and street smart as Paul is."

Are you hoping that Daniel and Imogen will work things out in the New Year?

"Yeah, I think the relationship between them is really good. They started out as friends and it blossomed into a really nice relationship. I think they've still got some future ahead..."

Are you excited about the UK broadcasts finally catching up with Australia?

"Really excited. From a strategical point of view, it makes so much sense. We were always doing things in line with Australia in terms of our Easter and Christmas storylines, but we'll be matched up now. There's no point in being 2 weeks apart - we may as well just all be in it together and do everything at the same time. I think it's a great move."

A lot of the younger cast are hoping to break into the US, but you've already worked over there on shows like Once Upon A Time. Do you ever miss it?

"No, I'm loving my life here in Australia too much to miss anything else. I do feel like I'm in my second home when I take a trip back to Los Angeles, but for the most part I'm just happy to be home in Australia. Getting to work every day as an actor just trumps it all. I'd definitely love to stay at Neighbours for longer - there's a lot more that Daniel can offer."

We know you're good friends with your on-screen cousin Pippa Black, who's still over in the US. Have you ever cheekily asked her to come back so Daniel can meet Elle Robinson?

"I don't know if I have tried hard enough. I did mention it to her when I was in LA a few months ago. We fantasised about how cool it would be for Daniel and Elle to have scenes together, but maybe I should have tried to press a little harder!"

Man up? Really? A man who is sensitive, cares about the environment, the community and those around him makes him not manly? Really not impressed by that comment!
As for the respect from people, don't know about anyone else, but someone doing a job they don't truly enjoy and are only really doing out of guilt, doesn't impress me.

Neighbours star Tim Phillipps has explained his shock exit from the show, admitting that it wasn't his choice to leave his role as Daniel Robinson.

Viewers will see the actor bow out following a two-year stint next week, as Daniel leaves Ramsay Street for a new life in Los Angeles with Imogen Willis.

The couple will tie the knot before they leave Erinsborough, giving the Willis clan some much-deserved happiness following the tragic deaths of Josh and Doug.

"The decision wasn't mine - the producers wanted Daniel and Imogen to leave together," Phillipps told Inside Soap of his departure.

"So much negative stuff had happened that the show wanted something positive to come out of it - so with Imogen going, the only real option was for Daniel to go too.

"I think the writers also wanted to create a parallel with Daniel leaving Ramsay Street after getting married, just like his parents Scott and Charlene did."

Phillipps said that he is "really glad Daniel is still alive" following a deadly few weeks in Erinsborough, as it gives him the chance to possibly return in the future.

Asked what's next for him, he replied: "Just back on the audition circuit. In the past, I've been eager to jump into the next job - but for now I'm happy to take my time and let the right role come along. Oh, and I also have a wedding to plan!"

Phillipps announced that he was engaged to his girlfriend Jessica Lee Rose in March.

That's weird a bit as usually the young actors get 3 years contracts on Neighbours. Why Tim's contract is different?

From what I've read, those contracts are weighted in the production team's favour, so if they decide to get rid of a character they can. I think the three year contracts are really just to keep the actors in the show for three years (or as long as the producers want them) rather than to guarantee them a job for three years. So that might be what's happened to Tim.

I'm annoyed because Daniel was a good character (at least until they made him boring) and Tim's a decent actor. He shouldn't have to leave just because his onscreen partner wants to go. So many of the younger characters see Neighbours as a stepping stone to Hollywood and depart as soon as they can, so to get rid of a popular young actor who doesn't want to leave is nonsensical. :wall:

It does seem like a strange decision! I get that they want to have a happy storyline, but after the explosion they didn't really need to put them back together, they could have departed on good terms.
I reckon they've cut him because Daniel doesn't stand out anymore. His old personality did, but now he's just lost in the crowd, which is a shame. It seemed they were trying to make him a less evil version of Paul and it totally backfired.
I don't imagine Travis Burns sticking around much longer, so that's another young one gone and it does seem strange for them to cut someone so young, who seems to have wanted to really make a dent on the show and wants to stay, it doesn't make sense.

I found a note from last year regarding Tim's situation and plans on Neighbours. Which shows that he was happy to be on Neighbours for the minimum of 3 years

'Tim made his screen debut as Daniel on 29 April 2014. In March 2015, Phillipps said that he was happy at*Neighbours*and would be staying for at least two more years.'

That's a shame that the producers decided not to renew his contract for at least another year as Tim wanted.

This scenario is so obviously the best and most appropriate one (if they were determined that the hotel explosion cause a tragic death) that it beggars belief that anything else was even considered. Getting rid of Daniel and leaving Matilda fatherless are very poor choices and highly unsatisfying viewing in my opinion. :thumbsdow

I was a fan of Imogen and Daniel and did want to see a happy ending but I think they even parting as friends could have worked

I do think their wedding and exit is very rushed after Josh and Doug's deaths

Does Paul not attend the wedding?

I don't think Paul will be invited to the wedding. Daniel believes he caused the explosion

Could Daniel and Imogen return to Neighbours? Producer Jason Herbison has the answer

The happy couple bowed out in Tuesday's episode.

Sad to see Daniel Robinson and Imogen Willis leave Neighbours? We can soften the blow slightly - the door is wide open for a possible return.

Tuesday's episode (April 26) saw Daniel and Imogen get their happy ending as they tied the knot and left Ramsay Street, marking the end of their time on the show.Ariel Kaplan left her role as Imogen to pursue other projects, but Tim Phillipps shocked fans last week by revealing that it wasn't his choice to bow out as Daniel.

Speaking about the exits for the first time, Neighbours' executive producer Jason Herbison told Digital Spy: "Our plan was always for Daniel and Imogen to leave Ramsay Street on a romantic and happy note, and as with all our characters, there is always scope for them to return - this is just the first chapter.

"Tim and Ariel are exceptionally talented and we wish them all the best in the future."

Kaplan played the role of Imogen for three years, while Phillipps was on our screens as Daniel for two. Their happy departures came after the Willis clan had been rocked by the recent deaths of Josh and Doug.

"The decision wasn't mine - the producers wanted Daniel and Imogen to leave together," Phillipps told Inside Soap of his exit in a recent interview.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.

Missing Neighbours couple Daniel and Imogen? Watch them film their final scenes in this new video

Already missing Imogen Willis and Daniel Robinson in Neighbours? You can watch their final scenes all over again in this behind-the-scenes video.Tuesday's episode (April 26) saw the couple get their happy ending as they tied the knot and left Ramsay Street.

Their exits marked the end of their time on the show with Ariel Kaplan leaving her role as Imogen to pursue other projects, and Tim Phillipps being written out to coincide with this.

The video shows the pair filming the scene where Imogen and Daniel rode off into the sunset, while Phillipps talks about what he will miss most about working on the Aussie soap.

Phillipps and Kaplan both used Twitter yesterday to thank supportive fans after their final episode aired.

Phillipps admitted that he was "blown away" by their positive messages, while Kaplan spoke out about how much she would miss Imogen. It it's not all sad though, as the door has been left been left very open for the duo to return, with the show's producer Jason Herbison saying that this was just the first chapter for them.

:wall:

Hi Dazzle:)

I came across the old interview with Tim that I have seen before where Tim says a year contract is not enough. (I highlighted both the beginning and the end where they mention about Tim's contract.)

On Paige's threads you were asking about my sources regarding Tim's two 1 years contract's on Neighbours.

Below is the very old interview/spoiler (24 July 2014) which confirms Tim was given initially 1 year contract . And at the end of another spoiler - (#12 posted by Perdita here) Tim confirms that he was given another 1 year contract but he was happy to stay even a lot longer.

Shall we take a stroll down a memory lane? ;) All of the 4 actors mentioned in that spoiler left Neighbours recently :

Neighbours' Tim Phillipps on future with show: 'A year isn't enough'

Tim Phillipps chats to us about playing Daniel and his love triangle storyline.

Neighbours newcomer Daniel Robinson has a busy few weeks ahead on UK screens as his secret fling with Amber Turner will soon be exposed.

Daniel and Amber (Jenna Rosenow) have a lot of explaining to do after Josh Willis (Harley Bonner) catches them kissing, leaving him heartbroken over his girlfriend's betrayal.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Tim Phillipps, who plays Daniel, for an insight into the love triangle storyline and his future on Neighbours.

What kind of reaction have you seen from Neighbours fans since Daniel's debut?

"A really nice one! All of the Neighbours supporters are really great when it comes to the cast and the characters. I've definitely had a really warm response in terms of social media and fan mail. One of the main things we want as actors is to please the audience, so it's nice that there's been good feedback! I'm very happy with that."

Your main storyline so far has obviously been Daniel's feelings for Amber. Has that been a good one to start off with?"

"Absolutely, I think it is a good one to start off with because a love triangle is quite a big storyline. It's also quite relatable - love is something we all go through and experience, so I guess it's been the perfect story to enter in with."

Would you say the fans are rooting for Daniel and Amber, or are some people sad to see Amber and Josh in trouble?

"I guess the reaction's been somewhat mixed, but there's definitely been a lot of support for Daniel and Amber. I guess Josh and Amber have been going through a lot of trouble, and Josh has had a pretty rough six months, so the wheels are starting to come off in their relationship.

."Daniel is now there to be a really great option for Amber. I think the fans are happy for Amber to be involved in a relationship that's free, fresh, fun and loving."

What happens when Josh finds out what's been going on?"

" Josh busts Amber and Daniel in the dark room together, which is going against their plans - mind you, every step of the way things go against their plans! They wanted Amber to end things with Josh before anything happened between her and Daniel, but unfortunately there were hold-ups with telling Josh and they just couldn't help themselves.

"They just had to act on impulses, and in the end it catches up with them. It's shocking for Amber, and Daniel feels awful for her. He also feels bad about upsetting Josh."

Will there be a fight between Daniel and Josh?

"There is somewhat of a showdown as they confront each other. Daniel wants everything to be okay, but Josh comes to speak his mind.

"It's quite interesting because it's somewhat level-headed. I think young people with so much emotion don't always have a controlled conversation like they do, but underneath that, it's loaded with pain from Josh's end and compassion from Daniel's end. It's sort of fire meets water, so it's really interesting."

What happens between Daniel and Amber after that?

" They stay together throughout all of the fallout with Josh and the Willis family. I think they are so excited about the love they're in, but everyone around them thinks they're just being young and silly. It's kind of Daniel and Amber against the world at this point, but that brings them closer."

On a separate note, will Daniel be able to help his uncle Paul as he plunges further into depression?

"Daniel is going to try his hardest to support Paul through it, but it's a pretty tough ask. On some levels, Daniel rates himself as a little bit of a therapist to people, but this is something that's pretty extreme! It can also be difficult to help someone that's as fiery as Paul Robinson, so it's an interesting dynamic there.

"Daniel is trying his best to help but he can't actually fix this one, so he just tries to be as supportive as possible."

Some of the fans have noticed that Daniel shares a few similarities with Sonya! Would you like them to become friends?

"Yeah, absolutely. I guess they really are the two characters that are a bit on the hippy side! I haven't had all that much to do with Eve [Morey, who plays Sonya] just yet, but we did have a scene recently where we were both sitting and talking to Paul together. Physically we were both almost mirroring each other for the shot, so it looked like we had the same vibe going on.

"It'll be fun down the track for the storyline to explore that a little bit. From watching Eve's stuff, she's an amazing actress so it'd be amazing for me to be able to do more work with her."

Do you share any similarities with Daniel in real life?

"Yeah, I think so! On any job, I try to bring an aspect of my personality and flesh it out for that character. The loving side of Daniel I can relate to fairly well, and also that side of him that just wants everyone to be nice, friendly, happy and get along. Those are the qualities that I share with Daniel."

We're all eager to hear some gossip about the show's 30th anniversary plans! Have the producers told you anything yet?

"I had a meeting with the producers today and they said that they're going to tell us all soon enough! It was very frustrating - I really wanted to get the information out of them, but I couldn't find out! (Laughs.)

"I know that the 30th anniversary is such a massive, massive milestone so I have no doubt it'll be big. From what I've seen, the storylines in the last six months have been really interesting and well-crafted, so I'm really excited to see what we can do for the 30th anniversary. I think we can expect a lot."

We've read that you're on a one-year contract, but would you like to stay for longer than that?

"Yeah, I really would. Time flies and I can't believe I've already been filming for six months. I don't think another six months is going to be long enough for me to really get out from the show what I want to.

"I'd like to just keep honing in on my craft, practicing and trying different things - as well as enjoying life at the same time, because it's not often that an actor has a stable job! It may not happen again, so I want to really enjoy that for as long as I can, so I'm definitely keen to stick around for a while!"

Thanks for that. I wonder why Tim was only given one year contracts when he's a better actor than some of those given three years?

I ask myself the same question. Especially that Tim was so keen on staying longer!

From what I read it seemed that at first he was happy with the 1 year contract but after working as Daniel for 6 months he kept mentioning it in his interviews that he was happy to stay much longer. Really shame he is gone! :(
