With Peter injured after last week's beating, Ian is adamant that he should stick to the story that a gang of kids are to blame. However, David can tell that something is amiss and that it's probably linked to Ian giving evidence in Max's trial. David tries to guilt-trip Ian into telling the truth about Carl's involvement in Max's arrest, but Ian continues to keep quiet.

Later, David continues to push his luck as he tries to scaremonger Carl into dropping his scheme. Soon afterwards, David confronts Ian once again and urges him to do the right thing, but Ian warns that Carl will kill them both if they decide to save Max. David is willing to take the risk, leaving Ian torn over what to do next…

Meanwhile, Carol is getting fed up with the commotion of having Terry and his kids in the house. Noticing this, Masood makes Carol an offer to move in with him, but she is unsure. Later, Carol tries to control her emotions when she visits Max in prison, and he tries to convince Carol to take Masood up on his offer. Masood is delighted when Carol later turns up on his doorstep and accepts his offer to move in, putting his worries about David to one side.

Elsewhere, after spending the night with Carl, Kirsty steals some money from his dresser to pay her debts. Carl spots this but pretends not to have noticed her actions. Kirsty is pleased when she arrives at the Brannings' with the cash just in time, as a loan shark is about to repossess the family's possessions. Later in The Vic, Carl takes pleasure in Kirsty's discomfort when he tells her about the stolen money.

Tuesday

It's the day of Max's trial. David tries to reason with Ian one last time, but Ian is adamant that he needs to lie in order to protect his family from Carl. Shortly afterwards, Carl arrives to see Ian and insists that they are going to share a taxi to court later. However, when Ian doesn't show up for their taxi, Carl begins to get angry. Peter fobs off Carl by claiming that Ian has already made his own way to court, but in reality he's concerned to spot a hold-all which is full of Ian's clothes.

Later, Ian hasn't turned up at court. As a result, the judge decides that there is no case and Max is found not guilty - leaving his family overjoyed and Carl seething. Overwhelmed with being a free man, Max goes for a walk alone. Not long afterwards, a van drives onto the edge of some wasteland. It stops and the doors are thrown open to reveal Ian, who is bound and gagged inside. Standing outside the van doors are a grim-faced Max and Phil…

Meanwhile, Janine is told that Michael's body has been released for burial. When Alfie tries to be sympathetic, Janine hands all of the responsibility of the funeral over to him.

Elsewhere, it's Ava's birthday and Cora brings her a card, making Sam realise that he has forgotten. Sam covers that he has a special day planned but it's clear that he is beginning to feel trapped as he lingers when he sees his passport in the drawer. Later, Ava and Dexter are worried when Sam is late for the birthday lunch. He eventually turns up with flowers, but deep down he is trying to conceal his feelings of suffocation.

Thursday

Out in the wasteland, Ian is terrified that Max and Phil are going to kill him and pleads for his life. Amused, Max and Phil reveal they are not going to kill him as they promised David they wouldn't - but they need a favour as it is now revenge time for Carl.

Later, Max and Phil put their plan into action to get revenge on Carl for what he has done to them both, but then Phil gets some shocking information from Carl…

Meanwhile, Kirsty is worried about being homeless and Kat offers her somewhere to stay. However, when Max returns to his family, he tells Kirsty that he loves her and he didn't mean what he told her in prison. As Max and Kirsty reunite, he clings to her for comfort as he is struggling with the day's dramatic events.

Elsewhere, David admits his involvement in Ian's disappearance to Carol, but he assures her that he did it to protect their family. David then teases Carol about how she secretly misses living at the Butcher house. Later, Carol tells Masood about David's actions and suggests that she should move home, as it's such a stressful time for her family. Masood is forced to conceal his disappointment.

Sam offers to go out and get milk, but takes his passport and pills with him.
Sam takes his passport...
Also today, Sam panics when Ava suggests that they should have a family holiday next year. Sam offers to go out and get milk, but takes his passport and pills with him. Soon afterwards, Sam stands torn at the tube station while Ava begins to worry about his whereabouts. Will Sam really disappear again?

Finally, Alfie admits to Kat that he's worried nobody will come to Michael's funeral, but Kat points out that Michael would love an empty church as he never cared what people thought about him.

Ian helps Max and Phil with their revenge

Earlier this week, viewers saw that Max and Phil had kidnapped a terrified Ian Beale, driving him off to a deserted wasteland.

While Ian (Adam Woodyatt) is fearful that the two men are going to kill him following his lies about the car crash, he is soon relieved to discover that they're only trying to scare him.

However, Ian's involvement in the dark feud isn't over yet as Max (Jake Wood) and Phil (Steve McFadden) demand his help in dealing with Carl once and for all.

After using Ian to bring Carl (Daniel Coonan) to them, Phil and Max overpower the bad boy and bundle him into the back of a van.

Returning to the wasteland, Phil and Max are ready to finish Carl off - but can they really go through with committing murder?
