EastEnders has confirmed scheduling details for a special week of episodes which will see Ronnie Mitchell return to Walford and Shirley Carter mysteriously disappear.
The week commencing Monday, September 9 will see five episodes of EastEnders air on BBC One as the soap's dramatic autumn storylines gather pace.
As well as airing in its usual slots, an extra hour-long edition of EastEnders has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 11 at 8pm.
The big week will see testing times for some of Albert Square's residents as Ronnie Mitchell is released from jail, having served a two-year sentence for abducting Kat Moon's son Tommy in a tragic baby swap plot.
Additionally, the week in question will see Shirley (Linda Henry) in danger in the aftermath of her ex-partner Phil Mitchell's terrifying car crash.
When Shirley starts to realise that bad boy Carl White (Daniel Coonan) isn't being entirely honest about the crash, he threatens her to keep quiet. However, as a defiant Shirley refuses to listen, Carl realises that he needs to silence her and confronts her one last time at The Arches.
Afterwards, Shirley is nowhere to be seen and although she has been threatening to move abroad, Jean Slater is baffled when she discovers that her friend has left without one of her prized possessions.
Some of Shirley's other possessions - including her mobile phone - have also been dumped in a bin at the market, leaving viewers to wonder just how far Carl has gone to deal with the problem.
Later in the month, fans can also look forward to the one-off return of Peggy Mitchell for a special episode, as well as David Wicks's comeback as a show regular.
EastEnders returnee Ronnie Mitchell is in for a huge shock as Kat Moon becomes her main ally when she is released from prison.
Ronnie (Samantha Womack) has served a two-year stretch behind bars for abducting Kat's son Tommy in a tragic baby swap plot.
When Ronnie finally gets her freedom, she is expecting her sister Roxy (Rita Simons) to be waiting outside the jail for her like they'd always planned.
Unfortunately, Roxy is forced to scrap that idea when Alfie (Shane Richie) reacts furiously to her plan to bring Ronnie back to Albert Square. Roxy quickly decides that she should keep a distance from her troubled sibling, wanting to put Alfie's feelings first.

With Ronnie having nowhere to go, Kat then says that she can stay with her for the night, but is this really a good idea?

EastEnders' estranged couple Ronnie Mitchell and Jack Branning share a kiss this evening, after admitting their feelings for each other.
Jack (Scott Maslen) feels awkward during tonight's episode (September 13) when he walks in on Ronnie (Samantha Womack) and Sharon (Letitia Dean) coming to blows in the R&R.

Jack has been hostile towards Ronnie since her release from prison and the pair then decide that it would be best if they stayed out of each other's way from now on.
However, Jack later goes to find Ronnie and tells her that he hasn't stopped thinking about her and it is clear that she feels the same.
In a moment of passion, Jack admits he is still deeply in love with her and they kiss.
