EastEnders businessman Max Branning is in for a tough time with the police as he gets the blame for Phil Mitchell's upcoming car crash.

As first revealed in July, Phil (Steve McFadden) will be left fighting for his life next month as a dodgy deal with bad boy Carl White leads to a huge road accident.

On the way to the deal, Carl (Daniel Coonan) starts driving recklessly and his dangerous actions result in a terrible crash which leaves Phil's life hanging in the balance.

However, in a twist, Max (Jake Wood) is later arrested over the incident as he is accused of causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

The shocking development comes after the police receive an anonymous tip-off suggesting that Max tampered with the brakes of Carl's car.

As Max has spent the past few weeks feuding with Carl in the battle for Kirsty, he clearly has a motive for wanting to cause harm to his love rival - leading to much speculation on the Square over whether he is guilty or innocent.

EastEnders airs the dramatic crash on Tuesday, September 3 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Realising that Carl is the one who is anonymously sending Lauren bottles of booze, Max turns violent with the villain and threatens to kill him as everyone watches on.

Unfortunately for Max, his threats will look damning when he is accused of causing Carl and Phil's car crash in a big new storyline.

EastEnders, fans are about to see the full extent of Carl White's manipulative nature.

As viewers already know, Carl (Daniel Coonan) is involved in a massive car accident next month after he convinces Phil Mitchell to team up with him for a dodgy deal.

Unsurprisingly, a scheming Carl has ulterior motives and only agrees to tell Phil all of the specific details when they are on their way.

With Carl deliberately driving recklessly, the two men soon have a close encounter with a lorry, which leads to a terrifying crash.

After Phil is thrown through the windscreen, he is left in a bad state and his life hangs in the balance.

However, Carl's condition looks more promising as he quickly regains consciousness and manages to free himself from the wreckage.

Carl tries to get out of the car.

When the emergency services and police arrive on the scene, a scheming Carl speaks to the officers and expresses surprise over how his brakes could have gone so quickly. This makes the police suspicious and they start asking questions.

Later, as news of the crash makes its way to Albert Square, the Branning family are busy celebrating Jack's birthday at The Vic.

Despite the worrying news, Max (Jake Wood) is determined to keep up the party spirit, which prompts some disapproval among the locals.

Unfortunately for Max, his good mood is short-lived as the police arrive to arrest him on suspicion of tampering with Carl's car…

Bianca Butcher says an emotional farewell to her family on EastEnders next week after deciding to leave Walford for a while.

An ambitious Bianca (Patsy Palmer) departs the Square in order to go off and do a fashion course.

Bianca makes the decision as she feels downbeat when her children start school again, realising that they have their whole lives ahead of them while she has never really made anything of herself.

When Kat hears how her friend is feeling, she hands over details of fashion courses she could try out, pointing out that their market stall could benefit from selling Bianca's designs.

Although a nervous Bianca insists that it's unrealistic, she eventually agrees to take on the challenge after Carol agrees to look after the kids and Kat promises to keep the stall going strong.

Bianca's course will last for six weeks and show bosses have confirmed that she will have a new love interest in tow when she makes her return.

Carl White plays the framing game in EastEnders tonight (September 5) as he puts the next stage of his plan into action.

The Walford schemer is relieved to escape from the car crash without any significant injuries, but things aren't looking so good for Phil Mitchell after he was thrown through the windscreen.

When the police and ambulance crews arrive on the scene, Carl (Daniel Coonan) is quick to claim that the crash was caused by his car brakes not working properly.

As the officers become intrigued and start asking questions, the stage is set for Carl to ensure that his love rival Max Branning gets the blame for the incident…

EastEnders bosses have released new pictures showing Phil Mitchell in a critical condition in hospital.

Earlier this week, viewers saw Phil (Steve McFadden) involved in a terrible car crash caused by Carl White's erratic driving.

While cunning Carl (Daniel Coonan) escapes relatively unscathed from the incident, Phil is in such a bad state that he has to be rushed off to hospital in an air ambulance.

Once Phil arrives, there's little sign of improvement in his condition as he fights for his life…

EastEnders' Max Branning flies at Carl White in tonight's episode (September 6) of the soap, in the aftermath of his shock arrest.

Viewers will know that Max (Jake Wood) was arrested last night on suspicion of causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life, after being stitched up by Carl (Daniel Coonan).

After being realised on bail, Max is determined to prove his innocence, and heads to The Vic to show he has nothing to hide.

However, it is not long before Carl arrives and determined to rile Max again, Carl follows him outside.

Aware he has an audience, Carl purposely winds Max up but Max doesn't retaliate until Carl makes a sly comment about Kirsty which infuriates Max and he punches Carl who falls to the floor.

Unbeknown to Max, the police are watching and he is arrested again...

Max Branning realises he has been framed by enemy Carl White in EastEnders tonight (September 6), as the police tell him they have evidence from a key witness.

After being released on bail, Max shocks his family by revealing that the police have a witness who claims to have seen him tampering with the car.

To make matters worse, the police have also found the tool that cut Carl's brakes in his house. Realising he has been set up, Max makes it clear to his family that he is innocent.

Wanting to prove his innocence to everyone else in the square, Max heads to the Vic but it isn't long before he comes face to face with Carl.
