Home and Away has cast Tasma Walton as a teacher.

The actress will join the soap to play the guest role of Jade Montgomery later this year, Yahoo reports.

Viewers will see the character on screen for a couple of months, leading up to a big season finale for 2013.

Walton, who is partly based in LA with husband Rove McManus, previously appeared in Summer Bay for six episodes back in 1995 in a different role.

"I always love being home, and any opportunity to marry a trip home with acting work is certainly welcome," she said.

"I feel incredibly blessed to call such a beautiful country my home and will always gravitate back whenever possible."

She has starred in Australian drama series City Homicide and Blue Heelers in the past.

Home and Away newcomer Tasma Walton has said that her character Jade Montgomery will be "intense and mean".

It was previously announced that the actress had joined the soap to play the guest role of Jade.

Teacher Jade will arrive at Summer Bay High after it merges with Mangrove River High School following a fire.

The actress told TV Week: "She's an antagonistic character who is blindly ambitious. She goes to great lengths to further her ambition, to the extent where she does some unsavoury things.

"I'd never played a character that intense and mean. I would wince occasionally when I read the scripts."

Walton also revealed that her character has a rocky past history with Heath Braxton, and will also clash with his wife Bianca.

"The bad blood between Montgomery and the River Boys stems back to when she was a teacher at Mangrove River High and Heath was a student," Walton explained. "She was a young teacher when she had to deal with the likes of Heath Braxton."

Speaking about her clash with Bianca, she added: "[Jade] arrives in Summer Bay with very high hopes of starting a new career at Summer Bay High and bringing her expertise.

"Very quickly she discovers she is being demoted to vice-principal, and that sets up an immediate level of tension and conflict with Bianca."

Home and Away's new recruit Tasma Walton has said that she fears she will receive hate mail from fans when her character's darker side is unleashed.

The actress has recently joined the soap as teacher Jade Montgomery and has previously hinted that her character would be 'intense and mean'.

In an upcoming storyline, viewers will see Montgomery becoming increasingly manipulative when she is relegated to deputy headteacher at the school.

Furious at the turn of events, Montgomery is quick to enlist pupil Matt to try to undermine Bianca (Lisa Gormley) by starting a fight with another student. She later pays him to start a fire in the school corridor and make a false statement to the police claiming Bianca made advances towards him.

Walton said to TV Week: "This is the start of her desperation. She's such an antagonistic character. I want to remind people I'm an actor, so please don't start sending me hate mail. I'm just acting.

"Montgomery and Matt have a working relationship. In the past, she has basically paid him to commit acts of vandalism and other things to further her career. With the fire, viewers will know Montgomery is behind it - but the characters won't."

"She so desperately wants to be the principal of Summer Bay High and to be in charge of a school that can be successful. For Montgomery, it is all or nothing."
