Monday

When Max arrives back in Walford, Carl makes it clear to him that he wants to be with Kirsty. However, he is surprised when Max claims to be happy for them both. Soon afterwards, Carl asks Kirsty to accompany him as he visits his mum again, explaining that she has taken a turn for the worse. However, Kirsty forgets all about this when she sees Max. Giving Max a final ultimatum, Kirsty says that she'll be waiting at the flat for him after work. If Max doesn't show, she'll accept that they're over.

Carl sees the pair talking and quickly forms a plan, calling a friend named Warren and asking for a favour. Warren heads to the car lot and enquires after a number of vehicles, wanting to keep Max occupied for as long as possible. Max is desperate to leave so that he can see Kirsty, but Warren keeps him talking. In Max's absence, Carl pays a visit to Kirsty and she invites him inside. By the time Max finally arrives, he sees Carl at the window. Carl smirks at Max and draws the curtains - it's clear that he's too late…

When Kat later arrives at The Vic, Alfie is out so Roxy ends up telling her the news. To Roxy's surprise, Kat takes it extremely well. Kat even goes out to buy Tommy a suit so that he can be pageboy at the wedding, which touches Alfie - but it's clear that Kat is hiding her true feelings.

However, Lauren insists that she's staying in Walford and if she isn't welcome in his house, then she'll find somewhere else to stay…

Meanwhile, in the wake of Lauren's return, Max tells Kirsty that his daughter has to be his priority now. Kirsty is understanding, but she fears that it'll be the end for her and Max if Lauren does stick around. When Lauren seeks advice from Kirsty over whether she should stay or not, Kirsty makes a big sacrifice. She tells Lauren that she should be wherever her recovery will be easiest, and if that is in Walford, then she has her support.

EastEnders' Lucy Beale will find her loyalties tested to new boss Janine Butcher next week, after she discovers her dad Ian has been up to no good.

Lucy (Hetti Bywater) confronts Janine (Charlie Brooks) about how she isn't giving her any responsibility, but Janine insists she has to prove her loyalty first, which amuses Ian.

However, Lucy is delighted when Janine gives her the task of investigating a business of her choice from Janine's portfolio to see where she can save her money.

Later, Lucy turns up at Scarlett's and tells Ian she knows he has been calculating Janine's share of the profits after deducting Carl's loan.

Ian asks Lucy if she is going to tell Janine what he has been up to, but Lucy explains that it is nothing personal, it is just a case of loyalty.

When Janine gives Lucy a promotion after being impressed with her business ideas for R+R, instead of being happy for his daughter, Ian is more concerned that Lucy has told Janine everything which further angers her.

Lucy explains to her worried dad that she hasn't mentioned anything, leaving Ian feeling guilty.

EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday, August 8 at 7.30pm and Friday, August 9 and 8pm on BBC1.
