Coming up on Coronation Street, Paul Kershaw becomes public enemy number one as his feud with Lloyd Mullaney continues.

In the aftermath of Paul's controversial "play the white man" remark, tensions run high between the two men as neither of them will back down.

Sally and Sophie Webster (Sally Dynevor and Brooke Vincent) even get involved in the arguments due to their loyalty towards Lloyd's daughter Jenna.

With Sophie keen to defend her girlfriend, she can't resist making a dig at Paul (Tony Hirst) when she sees him. However, it's the final straw for Paul and his anger boils over as he berates her in the street.

Through all the drama, Eileen remains determined to back up her fiancé and loyally defends Paul in front of the Websters. With the situation spiralling out of control, Paul has to separate a warring Sally and Eileen…

Hayley Cropper is to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in moving scenes which will be screened next week.

Viewers will see Hayley called in by her doctor for tests after a routine medical shows up abnormalities.

And she is devastated when the results reveal that she has potentially fatal stage 2 pancreatic cancer.

But in typical Hayley fashion she is more concerned about how Roy will cope with the news than her own health.

Throughout the rest of the year we will follow the Cropper’s on their journey as they come to terms with the devastation this awful disease causes but there will also be many laughs along the way as Hayley deals with her diagnosis in her own inimitable style.

ITV have worked closely with Pancreatic Cancer UK (www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk) on the storyline and the charity’s support line will be broadcast after the episodes on July 22nd when Hayley is diagnosed.

Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh announced earlier this year that she was leaving the soap after 15 years and feels honoured that her departure storyline gives her the opportunity to explore a subject that affects so many people.

She said: “I do feel really honoured to be given the opportunity to play this storyline because cancer in general is something that affects everybody. Hayley’s issues of being a transgender was a great opportunity to bring an unusual issue into people’s living rooms and to teach them about something that was new to many. This is a chance to go through something that has touched pretty much everybody in one way or another. There are moments where it is heartbreaking, but it’s not all weepy, for the most part it’s just Roy and Hayley dealing with it in a very ‘Roy and Hayley’ way.

“I do remember reading the scripts for the first time and being inconsolable. Every single page I was heartbroken because it’s a really strange thing. She’s not me, but she’s a massive part of me. She’s been a huge part of my life for over 15 years.”

Alex Ford, Chief Executive of Pancreatic Cancer UK, said: “Pancreatic cancer does not have a very high public profile so we are very grateful to ITV for raising awareness of it through Hayley’s story. At Pancreatic Cancer UK we support people affected by the disease. We understand all too well the devastating affect pancreatic cancer can have on those diagnosed, and their families. To help, we provide support and extensive information on symptoms, diagnosis and treatment to anyone who needs it.”

There's nearly always a Helpline number after all the soaps nowadays. So depressing that this is needed!

When Hayley makes a mistake at work and then has to ask Carla for time off, she's forced to admit that it's for a CT scan. Seeing that Hayley is terrified beneath her brave veneer, Carla offers to drive her to the hospital.

In the waiting room, Carla tries valiantly to make small talk, insisting that it'll be nothing. However, alone with the consultant, what will Hayley's prognosis be?

Meanwhile, Rob is determined to press his case against Peter, but with some family loyalty kicking in, Tracy suggests they can be cleverer. They've got Peter and Carla over a barrel and Tracy lays it on the line - they want the bookies shop for six months, rent free or they'll sue. On the ropes, will Peter be forced to agree?

Elsewhere, Nick and Leanne return from their spa break closer than ever. Simmering with resentment, David decides it's time to up the ante in his secret revenge plot against Nick. Taking out his phone, he calls trading standards. What has he got in store for Nick this time?

Also, Owen puts a dampener on Audrey's birthday when he tells her that the crack in her wall may be a symptom of a much larger structural problem.

Finally, Tim flirts with Sally as he does a few odd jobs at Number 13.

As the consultant breaks the news to Hayley that she has stage two pancreatic cancer, she's floored. The doctor explains that she'll need an operation to remove the tumour and unblock her bile duct, then she'll need chemotherapy.

Barely able to process this, a numb Hayley returns to the street. Will she finally confide in Roy?

Meanwhile, Peter and Carla know they're being blackmailed, but they have little choice other than to accept Rob and Tracy's deal. Struggling to hide his frustration, Peter admits to Deirdre that Carla being the sole breadwinner makes him feel emasculated. As word spreads that Rob and Tracy's new business venture will be a cash converter, how will people react?

Elsewhere, Nick is stunned as the trading standards inspector reveals that provisional tests on the Bistro's spirits suggest they've been watered down. Facing a big fine or even a sentence, Nick starts to panic.

Also, Tim opens up to Sally about his sadness over the breakdown of his relationship with Faye. Will Tim follow through with his promise to Owen to move on?

Finally, Maria tries to cheer Audrey up.

Wednesday

As Roy spends hours researching pancreatic cancer, his findings terrify Hayley, but she covers to spare him any pain. However, when the time comes to set off for the hospital and Roy is nowhere to be seen, Hayley's nerves kick in.

Later, Roy rushes in just as Hayley is about to go into theatre. As Hayley breaks down, will he be able to give her the support she needs?

Meanwhile, when Deirdre confides in Carla that Peter no longer feels her equal, she's thoughtful. Inviting him to the Bistro, Carla presents Peter with a ring box. As Peter asks if this is a proposal, Carla confirms it is, but inside the box is the key to Underworld. How will Peter respond to Carla's personal proposal and her business proposition?

Elsewhere, Paul is stressed as he heads to work to give a statement about his run-in with the hoax caller. When Sophie then makes a dig at Paul, his anxiety spills over and he berates her in the street, much to Sally's disgust. Eileen is weary as Paul continues to be public enemy number one.

Also today, Tim breaks the news to Faye that he's leaving town. But with Sally urging him to stand up to Owen and fight for his daughter, will he change his mind?

Finally, Tracy and Rob make plans for their cash converter shop.

Friday

Back at home, Roy fusses around Hayley, but she is keen to carry on as normal and doesn't want people knowing about her illness.

Unfortunately, Roy's way of dealing with things is very different, and after harassing the consultant for answers, he demands Hayley rests. However, when Hayley refuses to sit around, insisting on going to Audrey's birthday drinks, Roy loses his cool.

Meanwhile, as Peter starts work at Underworld, he insists on learning the business from the bottom up. Carla is impressed, and despite Michelle's reservations, they make plans for the future.

Elsewhere, Paul is regretting having words with Sophie, but admits he feels under fire. Desperate to fix things for Eileen's sake, he asks Jenna to talk to her dad. Will she agree?

Also, Audrey thanks her friends for a surprise birthday get-together.

As news of Hayley's cancer spreads through the Bistro, Hayley reels. Her friends offer their sympathy, but this is exactly what she didn't want.

Back at the flat, a hurt Hayley tells Roy that she feels suffocated and doesn't want to talk about her illness. As Sylvia explains to Roy how Hayley's been keeping her own fears under wraps for fear of upsetting him, will the couple finally open up to each other?

Meanwhile, an angry Lloyd confronts Paul, accusing him of trying to bully Jenna into backing his story about not being a racist. After the row, Eileen drags Paul back home. Lloyd and Mandy are also now at loggerheads too over the feud. Having had enough, Jenna seeks out Sophie. However, seeing the girl she loves so worn down, Sophie's had enough and decides it's time to take action against Paul.

Elsewhere, when Rob winds Peter up about taking money from Carla, Peter refuses to rise to the bait, insisting they're a solid partnership.

Also, when Gary and Izzy tell Tina that Jake will be coming home next week, she insists it's great news - but inside it's clear she's dreading seeing him again. Sensing this, Tommy suggests a holiday.

Peters character is useless. Wasting and gambling Carla's money. Who does he think he is. Feel very sorry for Carla with a irresponsible partner like that and her brothers no better. Give the women a break from these children!
