Over on Emmerdale, Kerry Wyatt's irresponsible behaviour has terrible consequences as she accidentally causes a fire while babysitting.

The horrifying incident takes place after Kerry (Laura Norton) downs vodka while she is supposed to be looking after Sarah and Jack, her boyfriend Andy's young children.

Continuing to neglect the kids, Kerry tells Sarah to carry baby Jack upstairs to bed while she enjoys her booze and a cigarette.

Kerry then falls into a drunken slumber and the lit cigarette catches the rug, which begins to smoulder.

Sarah is quick to spot the dangerous situation, but when she is unable to wake Kerry, she rushes to The Woolpack to get help.

Monday

Amy is subdued after her fight with Kerry. When Kerry arrives, Val is ready for round two, but Amy holds her back. While Andy attempts to mediate, an unruly Kerry continues to bicker. Andy tries to go after Amy when she storms out, but Kerry warns that if he does, they are over. Later, Andy finds Amy and admits that he has handled everything badly and while he does care for her, it's not in the way she might want. In the pub, Amy summons the courage to ask Andy - if he was not with her mum, would he be with her?

Kerry's cigarette causes a fire
Back at Dale View, an uptight Kerry is downing shots of vodka, one after another. When Debbie arrives with the kids as she needs a babysitter, Kerry puts on an act and offers to take them as Andy will be back soon. Once Debbie has gone, Kerry heads back to her vodka. Soon disaster seems imminent when Kerry tells young Sarah to carry Jack upstairs to bed, while she lights a cigarette. She falls into a drunken slumber and the lit cigarette catches the rug, which begins to smoulder...

Meanwhile, Cain vents to Moira about Debbie, as he is fed up with his daughter treating him like a babysitter. Moira realises there is more to it than just babysitting and suspects that Cain still holds Debbie responsible for the miscarriage. Cain is adamant that he will no longer be at Debbie's beck and call. Later that day, Cain is infuriated to discover that Debbie has ditched the children on Andy. Moira and Cain head to the pub, but Cain is worried to see Andy there and wonders who is with the kids.

Elsewhere, Alicia receives a bouquet of flowers with a note saying "love from D", which she angrily assumes are from David. At the pub, David encounters Rishi and apologises. Rishi seems baffled, so David explains that the wedding is off as Priya does not trust anyone any longer. Rishi is rocked to think that it could be his fault. Alicia interrupts them and once she is alone with David, she confronts him over the flowers. It soon becomes clear they were not from him. Dom intervenes and Alicia is left with some clarity - she wants to focus on Dom from now on.

Also today, Rhona gets a last minute appointment with Dr Abbott and lies to secure a further prescription, while Debbie meets a possible new supplier, snubbing Robbie in the process.

Tuesday

Hour-long episode

As smoke seeps under the door of Dale View, Sarah is unable to wake Kerry. Sarah then makes her way in the village towards her home. Clearly frightened and getting no answer, she heads for The Woolpack. Inside Dale View, the fire has taken hold. Kerry remains passed out and baby Jack is alone upstairs. Sarah arrives at the pub and causes alarm to Cain, Moira, Andy and Amy when she tells them about the scene she has just left. They all head over to Dale View followed by a few onlookers.

Cain, Andy and Amy try to save Kerry
Bob calls the fire brigade as the others arrive to see a wall of smoke and flames. Through the flames, Cain bolts upstairs for Jack, while Amy and Andy head in for Kerry, who remains unconscious and is separated from them by the fire. Outside, other villagers worry that the fire could spread. As the flames get bigger, more lives are put at risk. Will everyone make it out alive, and will Kerry get away with her negligence?

Meanwhile, Debbie is busy trying to make a deal with Kirk. Her phone rings and it's Cain, who has tried more than once. Debbie can see there are several messages from Cain, but she still turns her attention to Kirk as he is her priority right now. Later, when Kirk finally drops Debbie off in the village, a furious Cain tells her about the fire and the danger her children were in. Debbie struggles to take it all in, but is quick to declare that she will kill Kerry.

Cain loses his patience with Debbie
Later, Debbie palms her kids off on Belle. Cain is in disbelief and can no longer hold his tongue on the matter. In a heated exchange, he makes it clear that he holds Debbie responsible for Moira's miscarriage. Cain says from now on Debbie is on her own - is this the end of their father-daughter relationship?

Elsewhere, Dom asks David for advice on where to take Alicia out on a date. Priya is intrigued that David has given Dom advice. Later, Dom is happy to take things slowly with Alicia. David arrives to witness them share a warm moment and is fed up.

Also today, Andy dumps Kerry, Dom and Gemma are set to move into the village, Paddy wants Vanessa out of Smithy Cottage but Vanessa has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon, Declan breaks the bad news to Andy that he will have to foot the house repair bill, Sandy chases Meg the dog as she escapes and later tells Sean he has lost her, while Rachel feels swamped by all her family living with her.

Thursday

The search is on for Meg the dog and poor Sandy is full of guilt, knowing that it was his mistake that led to the dog's disappearance. Ali and Dan are annoyed that Sean has bunked off school, but he is adamant that he is not going back until he has found Meg. Out searching, Sean's day goes from bad to worse when he finds Meg laid in the garden. Paddy has to break sad news to him that the dog is dead.

Sean accidentally electrocutes himself
Later, Sean takes out his hurt by lobbing a rock through a Brook Cottage window and breaking in. Megan is shocked when she walks in to see a furious Sean smashing up the house. Sean wildly wields a long curtain pole, lashing out in anger and hitting the light. Sean is electrocuted and falls to the floor unconscious, leaving Megan panicked.

Meanwhile, Cain admits to Moira that he blamed Debbie for the miscarriage. Moira refutes that it had anything to do with her, but Cain is single-minded over it and asks if he can stay at the farm for a while. Later, Debbie packs up Cain's possessions to clear her father out of her life once and for all. At the same time, Charity is shocked to hear that Cain has walked out on Debbie and has moved to the farm. She encourages Cain to talk to her, but he insists that it's better if he keeps away from Debbie as she is totally out of control. Charity seems determined to change his mind, but will that be enough this time?

Elsewhere, Alicia is asked on a date by Dom, but is less than impressed when he tells her to wear trainers. However, when Dom spills the beans about what's in store, Alicia is very excited.

Also, Kerry pockets some cash from Andy's wallet before explaining that she is off to Lanzarote for a bit of sun, while Val is determined to get Priya and David back together.

Friday

Nikhil confronts David and asks why he is not fighting for Priya. Nikhil tells him that if he wants her back, he had better act quickly - she is leaving for London and not coming back! That evening at The Woolpack, Priya arrives to tell Chas she is leaving just as David appears and re-proposes to to her. Is this too little too late, or music to Priya's ears?

At the same time, Katie pushes Alicia for details about her date with Dom. Alicia does not seem bowled over by him, but admits that he is a nice guy. Katie insists she just needs more time, but Alicia doesn't seem so sure. Is she hiding from her true feelings? Something then strikes a chord with Alicia, and suddenly assertive, she says she is going to get her man. But who is she referring to, and is it too late?

Meanwhile, Rhona lies to Paddy that she has a call out, as she is desperate to get to the pharmacy. Rhona tries to persuade the pharmacist to give her more pills, making up yet another story. The pharmacist refuses and redirects her back to her GP. Rhona leaves infuriated. When she arrives home, Paddy and Vanessa are bickering. Rhona snaps at the pair, leaving Paddy baffled and Vanessa worried. Rhona's cravings are increasing and home alone, she unlocks the drugs cabinet at the vet's surgery - has it really come to this?

Elsewhere, Debbie asks Zak and Lisa if they can have Sarah and Jack later. Zak relents, but is clearly not impressed when Debbie insists the children are to go nowhere near Cain. When Zak and Lisa see Cain in the cafe, they encourage him to make amends with Debbie, but it does not look like he will back down, despite being upset that Debbie is preventing him from seeing Sarah and Jack. Later, Cain is grateful when Zak arrives at the farm with the kids in tow, feigning forgetfulness and miscommunication.

Also today, Megan wants Ali to know how sorry she is about Sean but Ali is gunning for her, Megan is rocked by the gulf between her and Robbie, while Sam is worried about Samson who has been quiet

Emmerdale star Laura Norton has said she prepared for playing her character Kerry Wyatt by watching The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Norton revealed that she thought the show would help her understand Kerry's damaged relationship with daughter Amy.

Speaking to The Sun, Norton said: "I tuned in to watch women who will take no responsibility for their children, who think they are doing nothing wrong and play the victim.

"There were episodes where girls said their mums never loved them, yet the mums said it was the daughters' fault. It helped me understand Kerry."

Kerry arrived in the Dales ten months ago but hadn't seen daughter Amy (Chelsea Halfpenny) since she was fostered as a young child. She has tried to patch things up with Amy but they are at odds over Kerry's drinking.

This week Kerry's drunken behaviour has terrible consequences as a fire rips through Andy's home, leaving baby Jack Sugden's life in danger.

Speaking about the dramatic scenes, Norton said: "It was a bit scary. The whole living room was on fire, with me slumped against a wall.

"You could feel the heat of the fire and there were a few moments where they told me to get out because the fire was too close."

Emmerdale airs the fire scenes tonight (May 13) at 7pm on ITV.
