When Paul tells Eileen that he's returning to work tomorrow, she is deeply concerned and confides in Julie that she's going to speak to his boss.

Julie is disapproving, but reluctantly agrees to drive Eileen to the fire station. Eileen heads inside, but when Julie spots Paul arriving, will she be able to warn Eileen in time? Or is her duplicity about to be uncovered?

Meanwhile, convinced that the net is slowly closing in on him, Karl makes plans to do a runner and go to stay with a mate. At the same time, the police give Dev the results of Sunita's post mortem - she died from smoke inhalation and more than likely pulled out her own ventilator tube. Will Dev accept this?

Elsewhere, Deirdre wishes Ken a happy anniversary and hands him a card. Ken has clearly forgotten, but tries to cover by hastily organising a dinner party with Tracy, Peter, Carla and Rob.

Also, Carla and Rob apologise to Fiz for the way she was treated and they invite her back to work at the factory, while Tim sees Dev's advert for the flat above the shop and tells Sophie that he's interested.

Paul is furious that Eileen has gone behind his back and told his boss that he's not ready to return to work. Eileen admits that she's scared stiff of him working again, and that since the Rovers fire she has constant nightmares that he might die because of his job.

Paul explains to Eileen how fire-fighting is his life and he can't give it up. Will Eileen accept that, or is their relationship over?

Meanwhile, as Stella calls to see Dev, offering her and Karl's support, Karl hastily packs his bags. Back at Number 13, Stella finds Karl making his escape. Cornered, he tells her that he didn't want to outstay his welcome. Stella urges him not to go, but with the investigation into the fire continuing, will Karl decide it's time to leave Weatherfield?

Elsewhere, Dev talks to the twins about their mum's funeral.

Also, at the anniversary party, Rob flirts with Deirdre who's in her element. But when he insists they all try his home-made punch, how will an uncomfortable Peter react?

Finally, Faye is thrilled when Tim reveals that he's moving into the Corner Shop flat, while Hayley, Izzy and Beth apologise to Fiz for the way they treated her - but will she agree to return to her old job?

Wednesday

Stella offers to look after Aadi and Asha while Dev makes funeral preparations. Karl is on edge and when Simon suggests to the twins that their mum won't go to heaven as she burned down the pub, he is furious with Simon.

After comforting Asha, Karl gives Simon a good shake. How will Leanne react as she arrives to witness Karl's loss of temper?

Later, Stella insists Karl accompanies her to Sunita's funeral. Feeling guilty, will Karl agree?

Meanwhile, in the Bistro, Rob tries to wind Peter up over the fact that he's drinking orange juice. Peter puts him in his place, and his dislike of Rob is evident.

Elsewhere, putting on a brave face, Eileen apologises for her wobble and promises Paul her full support. But when Paul convinces the station manager he's fit to return to work tomorrow, will Eileen be able to bury her fears, or will she try a different tack?

Also today, Fiz returns to work at the factory as the girls apologise again for siding with Kirsty. Will Fiz accept this?

Finally, Anna is cross when Faye gives Tim some chocolates she bought with her dinner money.

Friday

Karl tries to wriggle out of attending the funeral, but when he realises how much it means to Stella, he caves in and agrees to go. None of Sunita's family attend as she has brought shame to them.

As Dev delivers the eulogy, he breaks down. No longer able to control his own emotions, Karl runs from the crematorium, and Stella goes after him. Struggling with the burden of guilt, will Karl tell Stella the truth?

Meanwhile, Eileen does her best to hide her worries as Paul returns to work, but when she hears a news report about a local factory fire which has claimed two lives, she's on pins. Confiding in Jason, Eileen admits that she can't deal with the stress.

Elsewhere, Faye persuades Tim to invite Anna and Owen round for supper so they can get to know him. Anna reluctantly agrees for Faye's sake. But when she finds Tim struggling to make a lasagne, will she offer the hand of friendship?

Also, Fiz worries that Chesney is not really coping without Katy.

As Karl unburdens himself, he tells Stella that he loves her. How will Stella react to his confession?

After the funeral, the mourners head back to the Bistro for the wake. Gloria and Eva sing Karl's praises for rescuing Stella from the Rovers fire but Leanne is unimpressed, pointing out that a leopard never changes its spots. Will Leanne be proved right?

Meanwhile, frantic with worry, Eileen leaves yet another message on Paul's phone. Weary Paul returns safely, but Steve drags him off for a drink before he can call Eileen. When he finally returns home, Eileen tells Paul that she can't live in constant fear and he'll have to leave his job. Will Paul agree in a bid to save their relationship?

Elsewhere, the conversation is stilted as Anna, Owen and Faye have supper at Tim's flat. When Faye then asks if she can stay the night Anna refuses, later admitting to Owen that she hates Tim for turning their lives upside down.

Also, Chesney calls round to see Joseph. Katy tries her best to be friendly, but Chesney remains cold towards her. Will anyone be able to talk him into forgiving Katy?

Eileen (Sue Cleaver) resorts to desperate measures as she is no longer comfortable with Paul's career as a firefighter after seeing how dangerous the Rovers Return blaze was.

Paying a secret visit to Paul's boss at the fire station, Eileen claims that her fiancé isn't ready to return to the force after the trauma he suffered last month.

Eileen is soon caught out when Paul (Tony Hirst) enters the room by chance, and he's quick to deny Eileen's claims that he isn't mentally fit for work. But has the damage already been done?

Leanne Barlow's dislike of Karl Munro intensifies on Coronation Street tonight (April 10) as she witnesses him losing his temper with her stepson Simon.

Karl's temper builds when he is roped into looking after Simon and the Alahan kids at Number 13, which is the last thing he wants when he is struggling with his guilt over Sunita's death.

With Simon constantly making insensitive remarks about Sunita and the Rovers fire, Karl (John Michie) comforts the twins before losing it with Simon.

However, as Karl angrily brands Simon a "horrible brat", he chooses the wrong moment as Leanne (Jane Danson) walks in and is disgusted by his outburst. Is Leanne the one person Karl can't win over?
