After a slow-burn introduction to Hollyoaks (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s13/hollyoaks/), newcomer Kevin Foster is brought to the forefront next week as he falsely accuses Brendan Brady of sexually assaulting him (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s13/hollyoaks/spoilers/a458730/3548-brendan-is-accused-of-a-shocking-crime.html).

Kevin's shocking allegation comes as he continues to follow Walker's orders, which means trying to make Brendan's life as miserable as possible.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Elliot Balchin, who plays Kevin, to hear more about the storyline twist and his mysterious character's background.

How are you settling in at Hollyoaks?
"It's been amazing. In terms of the whole cast and crew, it's one of the friendliest environments that I've worked in. Everyone makes such a concerted effort to introduce themselves and just make you feel welcome.

"It's great, particularly because we've got so many long-running cast members here. You'd think they'd be sick of new faces after a while, but everyone's amazing. I've been blessed."

Are you pleased with Kevin's storyline?
"I think it's been great, because it's subtle to start with and the build-up is nice - it's very gradual. Because I'm around such big characters with major storylines, it's nice to come in under the radar.

"The characters and the audience are learning new things about Kevin all the time, so there is a shock factor when things start to come out. That's nice, because I've had so many people messaging me with questions. Kevin does become integral to the story, so it's nice to have people guessing and questioning."

How do you describe Kevin?
"Kevin has been on the streets for years and he's been in the foster care system. His beginning in the show is quite similar to Ste's. Ste came into the show originally as a little scally, and Kevin emulates some of the qualities that Ste had at that time. It's nice that Brendan picks up on that and there are parallels to be made.

"I think Kevin is led by his circumstances. He finds himself in circumstances and situations that he wouldn't put himself in by choice. Deep down he's not a bad person. He has the ability to manipulate, but he's not evil."

Kevin reporting back to Walker.

How long has Kevin known Walker for?
"I was really lucky to be working with Neil Newbon, who plays Walker, because we spent a lot of time together before we started shooting. We were going over our backstories, and a lot of it we created ourselves. We re-enacted Kevin and Walker's first meeting and stuff like that.

"Between us, we worked out that while Walker has been on the run for the shooting incident with Riley, he spotted Kevin pick-pocketing and doing little bits of criminal activity. Walker also saw the similarities between Kevin and Ste, so he realised that he could use all of this to his advantage.

"Walker has been talking to Kevin about Brendan's history for quite a while. We decided that they'd been planning this for a good few months before the viewers even saw Kevin on screen."

Why does Kevin lie to Brendan and claim that he was abused by his uncle?
"It's because Walker has told Kevin all about Brendan's abuse as a child. As so few people know about his history, Brendan has no idea that Kevin already knows his secret. When Brendan hears the story about Kevin being abused as a child, he instantly feels a connection with him.

"It's manipulation at its worst, but then Kevin slips up out of fear the next day - he knows that he's in way above his head! After that, Brendan knows that Kevin is lying."

We've heard that Brendan gets violent with Kevin after that. How far does his attack go?
"Luckily, it's stopped before it gets to a certain stage, but then Walker also beats up Kevin. He gets into a few scrapes - my time in the make-up chair is long every morning, and usually entails some cuts and bruises!"

Kevin goes to police station to report a sexual assault.

Is it Kevin's idea to go to the police and claim that Brendan sexually assaulted him?
"It's all Walker's idea! The thing to remember is that Kevin has spent so many years on the streets on his own. He thought that this Walker guy was going to give him some sort of protection and stability, but then the real Walker shows his face.

"With a lot of the stuff Kevin ends up doing, it's purely through fear. He's got one of two choices - he either gets beaten up by Walker or beaten up by Brendan! He's stuck between a rock and a hard place."

Does Ste believe Kevin's false allegation?
"What's interesting is that Kevin puts the seeds of doubt into Ste's mind. There's no outright statement from Ste of, 'I do believe you' or 'I don't believe you'. But Kevin is fantastic at putting seeds in people's minds which become slow-burners. He gets people thinking things without them realising he had anything to do with it.

"Kevin starts manipulating the relationship between Brendan and Ste quite well. He puts a spanner in the works. Their relationship has been at its best before Kevin starts, but it does go slightly south."

Next week's episodes also see Walker tell Kevin that he wants Maxine dead! How does Kevin react?
"Well, Kevin and Maxine's relationship develops as time goes on. Kevin would never intentionally want to cause harm to another person. He's not a violent person and he doesn't have the same evil streak as Walker. Things become quite interesting between Kevin and Maxine, but you'll have to wait and see what happens."

What kind of feedback are you getting from the Hollyoaks fans?
"Well, the relationship between Brendan and Ste is a much-loved one and it's very heavily followed by the fans. The feedback's been really positive, but one of the main things is that they're worried and terrified about what Kevin's going to do to Stendan!

"I think people get upset if anything disrupts that relationship, especially as it's been going so well recently. But that's nice as any reaction is a positive. If you're affecting the audience in some way, it's great."

Kevin watching Brendan and Ste.

Have you enjoyed working with Emmett and Neil?
"It's so good. One of the joys of working with Emmett is that he always changes things slightly - it's never the same thing twice. That means that you have to be completely in the scene every moment, because you never quite know where it's going to go.

"I think that's a joy to work with, because it just means that it's spontaneous and real. It's the same with Neil. Emmett and Neil both work extremely hard, so to be around that work ethic makes you want to work harder yourself."

Which other cast members have you made friends with?
"The cast are great. Laurie Duncan who plays Callum is a great friend, and so is Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove who plays Texas. Danny Mac is also a joy to be around. Bronagh Waugh is like mother hen, so you can't help but be in love with her!

"I have to say all of them, though. We all go on nights out together and everyone makes a point of letting everyone else know what's going on."

How does Hollyoaks compare to your previous work?
"It's such a new way of working. I have an absolute new-found respect for soap and soap actors, because of the speed of the turnover and the amount of stuff you have to process in such a short space of time.

"I've learned invaluable lessons while I've been here at Hollyoaks, and that's the great thing - you come in every day and you're learning. It's the longest time that I've spent on one role so far, so it's great for me. I've just come out of drama school and I took a three-year break for that, so I couldn't have asked for a better way back into the industry, really."

Is Kevin sticking around in Hollyoaks?
"Kevin's story develops quite a lot from now, and as for where it's going to go from here, we're still in talks. There's a question mark over it at the moment, but Kevin's character has the potential to stay on for a bit longer, so we'll have to wait and see

where is kevin gone? to prison?

Simon Walker (Neil Newbon) and his accomplice Kevin Foster (Elliot Balchin) will both be leaving the show at the end of the current revenge storyline with departing Brendan Brady (Emmett J. Scanlan). It is thought that the storyline will conclude towards the end of March, with both Walker and Kevin set to depart following the conclusion of the plot.

Hollyoaks fans will be left wondering whether Patrick Blake has killed Kevin Foster next week.

Patrick, played by Jeremy Sheffield, isn't best pleased when Kevin reappears in the village and tries to rekindle his friendship with Maxine Minniver.

Continuing to take a big interest in Maxine's life, Patrick convinces her to get rid of Kevin (Elliot Balchin) as he can't be trusted.

Kevin does leave Maxine (Nikki Sanderson) alone for a short while, but after he is attacked by a vengeful Ste Hay, he heads back to Maxine's place looking for help.

Patrick soon realises that more extreme action against Kevin may be needed, so he frames him for stealing an expensive necklace that he has bought for Maxine.

Shocked at the thought that Kevin would steal from her, Maxine kicks him out for a second time.

When Patrick then offers Kevin a lift out of the village, it seems that he is finally taking pity on the ex-barman.

However, once Patrick returns, he has blood on his shirt - has he done something to Kevin?

Hollyoaks troublemaker Kevin Foster reappears in the village next week and quickly finds himself in even more bother.

Kevin is ready to make amends as he heads back to Hollyoaks, but more problems are on the way for him as Ste Hay is out for revenge and Patrick Blake turns sinister once again…

Digital Spy caught up with Elliot Balchin, who plays Kevin, this week to hear about his character's return.

Are you pleased that the viewers will be seeing Kevin again next week?
"I'm absolutely chuffed. It's great to be able to round his story off properly. Kevin disappeared for a little while to make way for all the new storylines, but it's nice to now revisit his relationship with Maxine and see how it plays out."

Do you think the Hollyoaks fans will be pleased to see Kevin again?
"I hope so! The response that I've had from the fans has been lovely and really supportive. People seem to have really taken to the character of Kevin. I was so lucky, because I came in and had storylines with some of the greatest characters that Hollyoaks has produced.

"It was great to learn from those cast members, and I think the fans have now clicked with Kevin. I've had lots of messages from fans who are anticipating Kevin's return and what might happen, so I'm hoping they'll be really happy about it."

Are you surprised that Kevin has picked up some fans?
"Yeah, especially as I popped up out of nowhere and wasn't on screen for a huge amount of time. I was really shocked by the reaction. But when I got the scripts through and started to read them, I really liked the storyline and what they were doing with it.

"The story was really well-written and put together, and for people to like Kevin is a testament to the writers and the crew. I'm really proud to have been part of such a great storyline which allowed people to enjoy the character."

What brings Kevin back to the village?
"Kevin really needs to apologise to Maxine. She's the one person in his life who ever cared about him and didn't want anything back in return. Kevin feels a real duty to go back, apologise to her and hopefully get some sort of forgiveness from her. It's a relationship that genuinely means a lot to him. As ever, things don't go to plan and Kevin ends up in trouble - but that was inevitable, really!"

It's fair to say that not everyone in the village is pleased to see Kevin back! Is he prepared for that?
"I think Kevin knows that he messed up. He now gets to go back with a clean slate, as he doesn't have to pretend or play all these different parts anymore. Kevin probably deserves a lot of what he gets, and he's ready to be hated.

"I think he's also not sure how Maxine is going to take him being back. He isn't necessarily expecting a positive response from her, either."

Is Kevin surprised when Patrick takes a real disliking to him?
"Well, I think Patrick is excellent at being double-sided. He manages to hide the evil streak that he has. Kevin doesn't see that coming, so once the evil side is there, it is shocking.

"Kevin is one of the first characters, other than Anna, to see that really nasty side of Patrick. That makes it even more sinister and scary. Kevin also assumes that Maxine is a good judge of character, but soon he realises that she's got it completely wrong when it comes to Patrick…"

What can you tell us about the beating that Ste gives Kevin?
"It's a really nasty one! We know that Ste has this streak in him, as it's what he was like with Amy during his early days on the show. Of all the beatings that Kevin got - and he got a fair few - this one seems like the most brutal, because it's coming from someone who we've seen as a sweet, gentle character for so long.

"Ste unleashes all of this rage that's been building from everything he's been through with Brendan."

Does Kevin fight back?
"No, he doesn't. The things that Kevin did really affected Ste. There were lots of moments where Kevin was trying to tempt Brendan and break up that relationship, and he was fully aware of what he was doing.

"When Kevin faces the backlash, he knows he deserves it. In a weird way, he feels better himself because he knows that he's now been punished for what he did."

What was the beating scene like to film?
"Me and Kieron laughed a lot, because it's a long time since he's done violent fight scenes. Kieron wasn't sure how he was going to get to that place again, but once we got on set, he was absolutely fine.

"I deliberately wound Kieron up to see if I could make him angry! I knew that if there were any doubts, I could always mess his hair up and see some rage that way!"

After the beating, Patrick frames Kevin for stealing a necklace. What can you tell us about that?
"Kevin doesn't see it happening until it's too late. Patrick tells Kevin to go and sell an expensive necklace that Maxine has, as she's strapped for cash. Kevin decides to trust him, but Patrick is being very clever and sneaky.

"Being gullible again, Kevin thinks he's doing good - but it soon backfires when Maxine is dragging him out of the bathroom and kicking him out of the flat! As I recall, he's semi-naked and feeling quite sorry for himself!"

Patrick drives Kevin out of the village and is later seen with blood on his shirt. Are you pleased to be leaving the show with a bit of a mystery?
"I'm really happy with that. I spoke to the writers and [executive producer] Bryan Kirkwood about it, and I thought it was really nice to have a slightly ambiguous ending. I think there is potential for Kevin as a character to maybe go further, so to leave that ambiguity is great.

"As we've seen on Hollyoaks recently, there's always the potential for characters to come back. It's also a great ending because people will be questioning what Patrick has done and what he's capable of."

What's next for you?
"I'm really lucky, as I start a new job next week. Until they announce it I'm not allowed to talk about it, but it's a theatre job that will take me up to July. That's really what I wanted to do next. Having done a nice amount of time on screen, it's great to go and do some quite intense stage work now.

"I might also go to LA for a bit and see what's over there. I've got a few connections over there and my agent is quite keen for me to do that."

You've been putting up loads of pictures of fruit on Twitter - is this a health detox for the new role?
"Well, just before I start a new job, I always try to have a health kick so that I'm feeling the best that I can. This is probably the most extreme one that I've done.

"It's been hell, I will not lie! I've had to cut out caffeine, which is my biggest love in the world. I've had no coffee now for about two weeks. I feel great in terms of myself, but I would probably rip off anybody's arms and eat them for a coffee right about now!"

Hollyoaks actor Elliot Balchin has confirmed that his character Kevin Foster will be returning to screens.

The 23-year-old revealed the news on his Twitter page today (August 20), but warned that Kevin will only be back briefly.

He told his online followers: "Alright guys for those of you asking Kevin may briefly appear bk in your lives. X (sic)"

Kevin was last seen in May, when he got on the wrong side of sinister Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) while trying to make amends with Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson).

After Patrick framed Kevin for stealing Maxine's necklace, he took the troublemaker away in his car and returned with blood on his shirt. Viewers were then left to wonder just how far the headteacher had gone to get rid of Kevin.

A Hollyoaks insider told Digital Spy: "Elliot will be back on screen, but will Kevin be in a body bag after Patrick's intervention or did he make it out of their altercation alive?"

Kevin was originally introduced to Hollyoaks in January as part of Brendan Brady's dramatic exit storyline.

Troubled Hollyoaks character Kevin Foster is still alive, it has been confirmed.

Kevin, played by Elliot Balchin, left the show in mysterious circumstances earlier this year as ruthless Patrick Blake drove him out of the village and was later seen with blood on his shirt.

The sinister scenes left many fans wondering whether Patrick (Jeremy Sheffield) had killed Kevin, but next week viewers will see that he is not dead after all.

Kevin's friend Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) will visit him at a university campus in the upcoming scenes.

Maxine is surprised to see the turnaround in Kevin's life, but he explains that Patrick actually helped him out by getting him onto a course. However, whether Kevin is really telling the truth remains to be seen…

Balchin revealed his return as Kevin last month, telling fans that his alter ego would "briefly appear" back on the Channel 4 soap.

Meanwhile, Patrick will soon be filled with rage when Maxine tells him that she has slept with someone else. She asks him whether he could forgive her, but will Patrick be willing to give their relationship another try?

Hollyoaks airs these scenes all next week at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
