Looks like there's going to be more of suinita on screen next week, that's never good, I've absolutely no time for the character at all.

Corrie's Karl Munro becomes increasingly ruthless next week, committing arson as part of his ongoing feud with Jason Grimshaw.

Karl steals Jason's work van, drives it to a remote spot and torches it in March 8's double bill of the soap.

The desperate act comes as Karl aims to cause as much trouble as possible for Jason (Ryan Thomas) now that the builder is dating his ex-partner Stella Price (Michelle Collins).

Tempers boil over when Jason later figures out that Karl was responsible for the van incident. However, when Stella refuses to believe this theory, it seems that Karl's plan might be working.

John Michie, who plays Karl, told itv.com: "It's not just about getting revenge or getting his own back. Jason's a builder, so without a van he won't be able to do a great deal. He wants Jason to fail as the boyfriend, so it's vindictive and nasty - there's a definite plan.

"He certainly thinks he has done a good job. He's quite proud of his plan and how he took the van, where he blew it up and that nobody saw anything. He got a bit of a thrill out of that sort of devious behaviour."

Michie added that he is delighted to be exploring a darker side to Karl in his current storyline.

He said: "It's always interesting to play the bad guy. He's essentially not evil, he just gets caught up in situations and events certainly take over, then he has to deal with the consequences.

"Initially he has a plan and a calculation, but it all goes horribly wrong, and then he has to catch up with the events. It's the events themselves that turn him bad - deep down he himself isn't a bad person, he's just obsessed and in love. The best thing for Karl would be to leave Stella alone and not be with her."

Coronation Street continues tonight (February 25) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Corrie star John Michie has revealed that his character Karl Munro will blame ex-lover Sunita Alahan as his downfall continues.

Sunita (Shobna Gulati) watches on gleefully at The Rovers next week as Jason Grimshaw angrily confronts Karl for kidnapping Stella Price in his taxi.

Next Monday's double bill (March 4) sees Karl drive Stella off to a deserted spot in another attempt to win her back.

Although Karl eventually lets Stella go, Jason is furious when he learns of the cabbie's desperate antics - which results in a violent showdown when Karl next visits The Rovers.

Michie told itv.com of the fight scene: "[Karl's] not stupid. He knows there is going to be some kind of reaction. Karl is who he is, he thinks he will be able to charm his way out of it by explaining it all and it will be fine.

"Unfortunately Jason is there, and Jason is the one person who has the ability to make Karl lose control. He cannot control his anger or jealousy when he's around."

Karl later tries to get even with Jason by torching his work van. However, Sunita may also be on his hit list as he knows their affair caused the breakdown of his relationship with Stella in the first place.

Michie added: "Karl blames Sunita, full stop. He's one of these guys who thinks the world owes him a living. He thinks he's a good guy that's been tempted by a temptress."

Asked how Karl feels when Sunita seems to be enjoying the drama at the pub, the actor replied: "He despises her. He blames her entirely and vows to make her pay."

Coronation Street continues tonight (February 25) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street star John Michie has said that his character Karl Munro is not "a total monster".

Viewers have seen Karl become increasingly desperate to win ex-girlfriend Stella Price back in recent weeks following his affair with Sunita Alahan.

This week, Karl will kidnap Stella in his taxi as he continues his bid to win back her affection. He will also be a prime suspect in the aftermath of the Rovers Return fire later this month, which is said to take the life of Sunita.

The actor told PA: "He has a plan but it all goes horribly wrong, and then he has to catch up with the events.

"It's the events themselves that turn him bad; deep down he himself isn't a bad person, he's just obsessed and in love."

Karl will resort to arson to get revenge on Jason Grimshaw, who is now dating Stella. Karl will steal Jason's van and drive it to a remote spot before setting it on fire.

Karl will blame his ex-lover Sunita as his problems continue to worsen, but Michie does not believe that Karl will be responsible for her death.

He said: "There's no love lost for Sunita, although he would feel real concern for her children.

"Although he wasn't very nice to them he did get quite close to them, and he was a bit of a surrogate dad to them for a while. He does quite like them really, so the thought of them not having a mum would probably be the worst thing for him."

Coronation Street continues on Monday (March 4) at 7.30pm on ITV.
