When Spencer and Maddy turn up in Summer Bay, they are on the run with no possessions or money - and a secret to hide.

Morley commented: "Spencer is genuine, confident and a big charmer. He has a quality that turns heads and his positive attitude enlightens those around him.

"Spencer is a romantic, loyal and selfless man that puts the ones he cares for above and beyond himself."

Morley, 23, developed an interest in acting while he was studying civil engineering at university, and has previously appeared in the lead role of Brandon in Australian teen drama Lightning Point.

Home and Away actor Andrew Morley has opened up over his character's new romance storyline, admitting that Spencer Harrington will be "terrified" to tell ex-girlfriend Maddy Osborne that he has moved on from her.

In scenes due to air in Australia next week, Spencer embarks on a new relationship with Sasha Bezmel (Demi Harman) after he and Maddy have split up.

Andrew Morley as Spencer Harrington.

When Sasha declares her feelings for Spencer, he is initially suspicious as she had previously rejected his advances. However, he soon realises that she is completely genuine.

Morley told TV Week: "Sasha is only acting the way she is because she doesn't want to hurt him and jump in. He realises she's a really sweet girl and that they're both playing the unsure game.

"She goes to walk away, but then we kiss - and that resolves the conversation! It's a cute little scene, because they're both really honest with each other and go with their instincts."

Although Spencer and Sasha are happy together, they decide to hold off when it comes to telling Maddy (Kassandra Clementi) about their relationship.

Morley added: "They're both terrified about how to break the news to Maddy. Sasha and Spencer don't want to take too many steps forward yet, because they both feel so guilty and really struggle to find the right time to tell her."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 in the UK, and weekdays at 7pm on Network Seven in Australia.

Home and Away stars Andrew Morley and Demi Harman have heaped praise on their characters' new romance storyline.

Viewers in Australia have already seen Spencer Harrington and Sasha Bezmel get together, while UK fans will see their relationship blossom later this month.

Morley told TV Week of the new pairing: "The fans love it. They've already started calling us 'Spasha' on Twitter.

"It's beneficial as an actor to be able to jump in with someone who already has a fanbase. Spencer was always attached to Maddy, so to see him change slightly and become a different person is a good thing."

Meanwhile, discussing the chances of the relationship going far, Harman commented: "We haven't broken up yet - that's a good sign, if you last longer than a few weeks! I think we make a good couple, just quietly."

Upcoming episodes explore some challenges for the pair as Spencer's ex-girlfriend Maddy (Kassandra Clementi) tries to stand in their way.

Jealous that her former partner has moved on, Maddy tells Sasha that she can't stay friends with her if she starts sleeping with Spencer. This leaves Sasha torn between her boyfriend and her friend.

Harman teased: "We'll see what happens. Sasha's been terribly unlucky with guys, but finally that changed."

Home and Away's Spencer Harrington will make a decision that will have drastic consequences for his relationship with Sasha Bezmel.

Australian viewers will discover next week that Spencer (Andrew Morley) has bipolar disorder, and has been controlling the condition with medication.

However, Spencer will decide to stop taking the pills in order to try and impress girlfriend Sasha (Demi Harman), after fearing that he is boring.

Morley told TV Week: "He gets the idea from Sasha that he is a little boring and not adventurous.

"When Maddy goes for a bad boy, it makes him think, 'I'm not a bad boy - is that what girls like: the excitement and spontaneity?'

"In the end he goes, 'There's one thing that's keeping my life stable', and he decides to throw it out of the window.

"The drugs are a mood stabiliser, so the risk when going off them is not being able to control mood swings and your decision-making ability becoming clouded."

It isn't long before Sasha starts noticing Spencer is behaving differently, although she remains in the dark over what is going on.

When Chris discovers that his brother is no longer taking the medication, he is alarmed and questions Spencer over his drastic decision.

Morley explained: "Spencer gets defensive and tells him to mind his own business. Chris knows how bad Spencer can become and while Indi is concerned for her sister, he is also concerned.

"Sasha has fallen in love with Spencer for the person he has been, so this is a complete change. For her, it becomes, 'Who is this guy? He's not acting like he should.'

"Sasha asks herself if she can stick with this guy, not knowing whether he'll go back to normal - it's a big decision."

Home and Away's Spencer Harrington will collapse during a fight with his brother Chris.

As reported last week, Spencer (Andrew Morley) will make the shock decision to come off his bipolar medication in order to impress girlfriend Sasha.

Spencer's hasty decision will cause him to behave increasingly recklessly, and he soon becomes involved in two fights as well as walking out of an exam.

When Chris (Johnny Ruffo) tries to talk to his brother about his erratic state, Spencer is so furious that he ends up punching him. However, during the fight, things take a turn for the worse for Spencer and he ends up collapsing.

Morley told TV Week: "His temper is much more erratic and unpredictable. In his mind, his actions are totally justified.

"He takes what Chris says [as] an attack and his brother trying to control his life. In an instant, Spencer becomes this angry guy that just wants to take it out on him."

Speaking about Spencer's shock collapse, Morley said: "It is a complete rush of blood and Spencer is so furious that he just passes out.

"He's been without a lot of sleep and very hyperactive, and his body cannot take anymore. He's not in a healthy state at all."

Home and Away's Spencer Harrington will be forced to marry Evelyn MacGuire as he finds himself in too deep with the cult.

Spencer has turned to the staff at the Sanctuary Lodge, believing that they can help him cope with his bipolar condition.

Andrew Morley, who plays Spencer, said to TV Week: "Spencer is just desperate to solve his bipolar disorder without medication. He believes he will be able to control his erratic behaviour and mood swings at The Lodge, and have a normal fun life."

Despite the concerns of his brother Chris (Johnny Ruffo) and girlfriend Sasha (Demi Harman), Spencer is adamant that it isn't a deranged cult and punches his brother for his concern.

However, before he leaves, Chris manages to slip an increasingly concerned Evelyn (Philippa Northeast) a mobile phone.

Morley said: "The group are being paired up and Evelyn is frantically trying to tell Spencer, 'They're trying to marry us and commit us to this cult so we have to stay here.'

"Spencer now realises he has been totally sucked in. He is angry at the cult and angry at himself."

As Evelyn secretly films the ceremony with her phone, a defiant Spencer tells cult leader Murray that he is not going through with the wedding.

However, his rebellious outburst leads him into further danger as Murray hits him and has him escorted away to be imprisoned.

Over on Home and Away, Spencer Harrington's erratic behaviour starts to concern his girlfriend Sasha Bezmel and brother Chris.

As Spencer (Andrew Morley) and Sasha (Demi Harman) study together, she becomes too distracted by his unfocused behaviour and leaves. However, as Spencer tries to follow her, he sees bad boy Josh Barrett with Maddy and immediately lunges at him.

After the fight, Sasha heads home to find Indi and Chris and tells them about the altercation and Spencer's general erratic behaviour, leaving Chris distracted and concerned by the news.

The next morning, Chris tracks Spencer down and asks again if he's stopped taking his medication. Spencer tells Chris he doesn't need to worry about anything but at the same time, doesn't seem at all worried about his exam that day.

When he finally arrives at school, Spencer's behaviour becomes more and more erratic and he ends up walking out of his exam.

When Chris later confronts him about his strange moods, Spencer tries to fight Chris but ends up collapsing...

Home and Away star Andrew Morley has said that his portrayal of Spencer Harrington has helped change and save lives.

Viewers know that Summer Bay teenager Spencer suffers from bipolar disorder, and Morley has researched mental illness at length in order to portray it accurately.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said: "My character Spencer has a mental illness and so I *researched a lot. I saw the statistics on suicide and depression and how they are both taboo subjects.

"I felt that the demographic that watches Home and Away would be more inclined not to talk, and so felt the need to jump on board with the foundation, Reach Out, because it is a gateway that allows kids to talk and read about mental illness anonymously."

He continued:"I guarantee you I have saved lives because people have contacted me saying I have been a turning point for them.

"One girl was telling me about her suicide attempts, about rape, about stuff she has never told anyone, not even her parents. She felt she couldn't even talk to her parents because they wouldn't understand."

The news was leaked by Woman's Day, which also claimed that Morley's departure was motivated by the TV pilot season in the US.

However, Morley implored his Twitter followers to not "believe everything you read".

"Apologies to the faithful and incredible fans to hear the news in this disappointing way," he said.

"Just don't believe everything you read. Guys, there is so much fun stuff ahead for Spencer. And who actually said he's leaving forever?!"

Thanks for all the support!! Xxxxx pic.twitter.com/6Ks8zTIrw8

Spencer has been battling with bipolar disorder, a storyline which Morley has praised.

"I guarantee you I have saved lives, because people have contacted me saying I have been a turning point for them," he previously revealed.

I won't be sorry if Spencer's leaving permanently as I've never taken to him. Not even the bipolar storyline could make him interesting to me.

"I guarantee you I have saved lives, because people have contacted me saying I have been a turning point for them," he previously revealed.

Talk about an inflated ego!!! I don't doubt the storyline has saved lives but for Andrew Morley to attribute that solely to himself says a lot about him. I think the writers and producers probably had a hand in it too... :wall:

Home and Away's Spencer Harrington will consider leaving Summer Bay after a tragedy makes him re-evaluate his life.

Spencer will be left with a big decision to make after he and his brother Chris (Johnny Ruffo) return from visiting their dad, who has been in a car accident and is seriously injured.

As Spencer ponders whether he should leave his life in the Bay and go and stay with his dad, he soon finds himself opening up to Roo, who has noticed his strange behaviour.

Spencer explains to Roo that he has unfinished business with his dad and he feels he needs to resolve this in order to move forward with his life.

However, Spencer knows that it won't be easy to leave his brother and friends in Summer Bay behind.

Andrew Morley, who plays Spencer, told TV Week: "Spencer is feeling guilt over unresolved issues. Is he going to be the stronger person and try and make things better? There is a lot going on in Spencer's head."

It was confirmed last month that Morley would be leaving the show after two years of playing Spencer.

Article in today's (April 23) Daily Telegraph in Sydney:

What’s next for Home and Away hunk Andrew Morley? No rush to crack Hollywood

ANDREW Morley doesn’t see himself packing up and moving to Hollywood permanently like so many of his former Home and Away castmates.

The 25-year-old’s nearly three-year soap journey comes to an end when his final episode of the hugely popular Channel Seven show goes to air tonight.

ANDREW MORLEY’S ROLE IN PREVENTING YOUTH SUICIDE

There are a lot of opportunities overseas but it is not necessarily where I want to live,” he said.

“I have been doing plenty of auditions. I love the Australian vibe and at the moment I feel like I am much more suited to Aussie drama but there’s nothing stopping me from any opportunity that comes to give it a crack.”

Morley filmed his final scenes as Spencer Harrington six months ago. Since then, he’s travelled to Los Angeles, where he has management.

He is also hands-on with various charity initiatives, including Oscar’s Law and ReachOut.

“Giving back is the most enjoyable thing and that has only been opened up to me from getting the exposure on Home and Away,” said Morley, who will take part in a Colour Run on June 6 to raise money Oscar’s Law.

“I have never been so completely satisfied in my life with the kind of charity work that I’ve been doing. I’m really grateful for that.”

Morley grew up on a farm in Clarkefield, Victoria, and moved to Sydney for Home and Away.

He’s also been studying while acting and has just a few subjects to go on his civil and infrastructure engineering degree at RMIT.

“I will finish my degree,” he said. “Acting is one of those things that I see, why not do it while I’m young.”

Scriptwriters have left it open for his character to return to Home and Away.

“I loved my time on Home and Away and I would be completely open to having Spencer return,” he said. “And it is nice that he isn’t just killed off and it is a justified reason for him going.”
